I know this was supposed to be funny, but damn if that song didn't bring tears to my eyes and I don't speak a freakin word of Norwegian...just that music, my goodness, their voices...I can't even...so gorgeous.
Thanks for the subtitles. I am amazed daily at the many things that Ylvis do. I am a real fan. They are very talented, for sure!! (Don't cry, Vegard.....)
if u watch the whole ylvis III video u will see that one scene runs into another scene. the computer scene is after this and before vegard (tried) to do a reading but needed Bards help then he tried to do something on building legislation but Bard changed the screen handed vegard a Spider-Man thing for his head and started the Spider-Man song which vegard got upset about and then we come to this scene where Bard is trying to find out "what he can give" to help
Det jag kan höra är att de har lite mer sogn-ish i dialekten just här, det beror på att deras föräldrar kommer därifrån, så det kanske är det att de faktiskt har en blandad dialekt och aldrig lämnade någon av dem.
Since I am a complete neophyte, when it comes to any and all things Norwegian, I appreciate greatly all the wonderful work you do. It is sheer happiness for me to be able to follow what they are saying----in English. Thanks, thanks and more thanks for these subtitles! Tusen takk.
Honestly I think it would be great to have the entire show subtitled in one video because it's really hard to find all the individual parts Also it would be amazing to have whole episodes of "I kveld med Ylvis" subtitled :D I like the show very much but don't now Norwegian so 'I'm really thankful for you hard work :)
Did anyone else notice how at the very end the computer screen behind them changed to the screen they had from "Computer Trouble"? And if you look at the "Computer Trouble" show someone is still saying "yes" from this part. So I'm guessing there are several parts to one big show they had?
Hi ! I'm learning Norwegian and these days I'm working on modals. Can somebody help me transcribe that part at the end of the video when Bård is using so many modals in his sentences. That would be a GREAT exercice for me and it's always better to use Ylvis as a learning material than anything other thing. A few month ago I already translated that song from Bergensk to Bokmål just to train myself ^^
I just came across that sentence in my book that says it's possible to use several modals in a row in the sentence. And it gives the example : Må jeg ville kunne snakke norsk ? Do I need to want to be able to speak Norwegian ? How can I not think of Bård ?!! :D I really need to learn that part now
I really like the song, thanks for the translation. Just have one question concerning the title: Why do they sing "Ka kan eg gi deg" instead of "HVA kan JEG gi deg"? Does it have sth to do with a dialect or just how people talk in real life? Thanks for answering and keep up the good work :-)
It's their dialect. But in addition, at some points in this, they're parodying a couple of Norwegian artists who have a different dialect too. I can hear some Sigvart Dagsland, Jan Eggum and Bjørn Eidsvåg in there. As in, it sounds similar.
You'd think so (it doesn't make much sense to me either, as-is), but if he sings what it sounds like he's singing; "Ensomhetens pris, blir livets flaske.", then the translation is actually correct. I'm thinking it may be a slightly altered version of an idiom I'm not familiar with, since all the other three sentences he starts out singing (everything else from 2:34 - 3:00) are slightly altered idioms.
Great work with the subtitles. :) But hmm... I started subtitling the entire show (just started, really), but now you can find pretty much all its parts subtitled somewhere on RU-vid I think. So I'm not sure how much of a point it is to finish it. (P.S. Doesn't Bård sing "Du stråler på scenen" and not "Du står der på scenen"?)
Please help me out! I think this song/skit is taken from a Broadway play, but I can't place it (not Chicago, or a Chorus Line or Cabaret??) An answer would be much appreciated.
It's from their stage show Ylvis III that they performed in 2008. As far as I know, this is an original piece, but they tend to parody styles/genres etc. so maybe that's why it seems like it's from something?
WnGoddess thank you for your reply - that makes sense, the dance steps Vegard does with the chair seem so familiar to me and the tune also. I really love this piece don't you?
My gawd, the voices . . .Can't help myself, must watch this again and again. There must be a more accurate translation, though. "bottle of life?" Doesn't make a lick of sense to me.
there are so many dialects that just noregian isn't what they are speaking. if u go to google translate and add what they are saying u get something totally different so that is why I would like to know their language
