I've seen this masterpiece of a playthrough so many times and enjoyed it so much. Scoot you are a legend, thank you for all the fun and jokes man.

Fun fact: Cybil Bennet (the cop) was possibly inspired by Laurie Bembenek, a killer cop who was the subject of a media circus at the time. Given that the devs intended the players to question the actions of the characters beyond the surface level, I guess they tried to imply that Cybil wasn't fully sane when she was giving the gun to Harry.

2:36 What I love about Scoot is his subtlety and how smart his humor is. Having replayed Silent Hill 1-4 recently, I agree with Adum. I very much appreciate what Silent Hill was trying to do with presentation and story, in spite of the technical limitations. It's stuff video games were just NOT doing back then. But as far as the actual game itself goes, the first Silent Hill is just fine. Most of the fun of replaying it is noticing the seeds of what the developers would do in the sequels. So thank you very much for the retrospective, can't wait to see Silent Hill 2!

I appreciate Adum's insights throughout the playthrough regarding the Silent Hill Series, it's like I'm listening to the developer commentary in HL2 & L4D. It's a shame the franchise is in such a rut nowadays. Bloober of all companies is handling the Remake for Silent Hill 2. These are the same guys that made that awful The Medium Game. Not really getting my hopes up for this one, so I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

I went to Silent Hill as a kid and I didn't even know it apparently its based off this place "Centralia" we visited back in the early 2000s, I was maybe 12, the main roads to the town are torn up from smoke billowing out, so we walked a bit to get there, it had burning pits, not dissimilar to an ant lion hole, but with perpetual flames shooting out, and a constant haze of smoke. A coal fire has been burning underneath the town for a long time now and when we visited like 7 people lived there. It wasn't until much later in life that I looked back and realized how nightmarish of a situation I was actually in.

My 5th favorite game ever. Love the out the box puzzles and felt the pace went quickly. Also love how this game screws with you with surprise moments that AREN'T jumpscares!... Usually.

I know Its too late, but next time you play this or silent hill 2/3 try sneaking past the enemies by walking and turning off your flash light. You can sneak through most of these classrooms and hallways without having to fight at all. You basically NEED to do this to get past the school on hard mode without the newgame+ bullet adjust

Ah printout walkthroughs. That's how I beat Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee for the first time. I printed out a walkthrough for the entire game (100% completion), then my sister and I sat down on the couch and went through the entire game, them reading the walkthrough out loud and me following directions in the game.

The industrial music was inspired by Nine Inch Nails, an artist that was very groundbreaking of the time. The music director of this game claimed Trent Reznor was a major influence.

The whole "Silent Hill is based off of Pennsylvania" thing is a fact that got twisted in retellings. The director of the movie said he based specifically the movie version of Silent Hill off of that one town with the coal fire, but the town in the game has absolutely no connection to it.

One of my favorite game series of all time, and the first one is an absolute classic. I remember how people called it a Resident Evil ripoff back when it came out. Me being a stupid kid and RE fangirl, I was one of them without even having played it. When I finally did play it I got so scared I turned it off after Harry lost consciousness lol. Didn't touch it again until I was 18. Still scared the shit out of me then.

hello adamn, you mentioned some time ago that the fallout games just didnt vibe with you and upon hearing your take on the silent hill games i feel like we both share the same sentiment for both. ie, just like you said that the games really dont have that good story or gameplay yet you just love if for the atmosphere, I also do the same for the first person fallouts. the story is kinda okay, even with new Vegas and how everyone circle jerks about how good it is, and the gameplay is definitely outdated on an even more outdated engine, I just like playing the games because I lose myself in their worlds. just exploring some random patch of post apocalypse America trying to connect with random survivors and maybe try and improve the lives of those involved anyway, that's my schizopost for the day

When the Lizard boss stops moving and the dentist drill noise starts up during the first boss fight hes about to try and chomp you. You hit the final phase of that fight. If you look the lizard is just one of those big baby things you had all ready fought. You can hold run and tap backwards while aiming to hop backwards. You can bait a bite, then do a quick jump back and shoot him to win.
