@@GreenHotDogz I’m just saying in reference to Adum’s surprise about all of its nominations. This is one of the rare cases where a movie that comes out today ignites a ton of interest and makes people actually go out to the theater to see more movies. Not to mention it’s genuinely a great film. But the overarching point is that the Academy would be completely idiotic to not nominate EEAAO in everything that they can, considering all of the love that it has gotten and everything it has done to make people interested in movies again (or at least, interesting and artistic films rather than the formulaic Marvel movies and reboots that have been hogging theater space)

I gotta say, this lineup may be the best since the start of the 2010's. If there was ever a year where the Best Picture nominees accurately represented an entire year in film, then this was it. You have big blockbusters, small indies, foreign films, and everything in between here!

Granted, All Quiet on the Western Front has the win for that in the bag anyway, though, given how many nominations it got, including Adapted Screenplay and Best Picture. I also wanted Decision to Leave to get a duo Director/Best Picture nomination, even if I don't mind the nominees for those two categories as is. That said, aside from obvious snubs such as Decision to Leave for International, The Woman King for Actress and Costume Design, Nope for Visual Effects, The Batman and Top Gun: Maverick for Cinematography, most of the lineup this year for most of the categories (except the shorts, I don't care about those) is actually really solid. @@Ali007572 I mean I don't think she's bad, she was just horribly miscast in that movie. She's honestly pretty good in the right role but this clearly wasn't it and her nomination is obviously due to it being a biopic about a famous person which the Academy loves to honour even when they're shit.
@Ali007572
@Ali007572 Год назад
@@thatguyseb8824 Well, yes, she can be good, but I honestly don't think, that she's better than the average, she's more or less overglorified because of her looks and "cuteness". I didn't want to put her down, but imho she isn't anything special really. But it isn't exactly a biopic per se, because it's a historical fiction, it's based on a book that was written by some lady and that was some NY times bestseller (or something like that). On the contrary, yes, it's miscast, even when you do something like this and it's fiction, it still has a base in the history, so even when they made up things that don't exactly belong there, Monroe should've been played by somebody who looks and can behave like her. I would never imagine, that if you ask me "who can play Monroe?" - the answer would be Armas, I would honestly laugh at that. I really don't like this "trend" that you cast somebody who on the first glance doesn't look the part and he/she has to convince you that he/she can play the part. F.e. I don't buy Pattinson's Batman aka "Battinson", or Craig's version of Bond who is basically a variation on Jason Bourne and not an OG Bond. I would like that if they cast somebody in some known role, he should fit and look the part, the acting performance is also important but all of these atributes should be balanced in a more harmonious way, not just in the way that the he/she can act. @@Courier_333 Every single performance, and i mean every single performance felt cartoonish. Don't get me started with michelle williams, never have i seen someone be so oscar baity in a performance. I found the family drama to be extremely generic (which isn't a bad thing, its in the execution) but it was also meandering and way too long than it was warranted. Gabrielle Labelle i found to be mediocre in his role, there were hints of jewish discrimination that didn't really have evoke any emotion nor was it executed well. Don't really buy the whole michelle williams and paul dano affair with seth rogan. For a movie that really wanted to focus on the theme of pursuing passion, the film lacked passion. The technical aspects as well. I thought that part of the reason why its boring is because the score was put on like 2% volume and was a very muted score. Even on listening to the soundtrack, the tracks themselves are extremely meh and fail to evoke anything (unlike most john williams scores)
@blaisetelfer8499
@blaisetelfer8499 Год назад
Same; I wasn't crazy about it. It was Williams' and Dano's least impressive performances in awhile, and the family conflict was sanitized to the point of feeling insulting, like the audience is a bunch of dumb kids who can't handle it. Spielberg portrayed divorce through the child's eye way better (and more honestly) in Catch Me If You Can.

Out of all the nominations, the only one that strikes me as a surprise was Andrea Riseborough for To Leslie. I say this because no one even heard of it until that hashtag started trending to get her nominated. Having seen the film, her performance is the only thing worth watching. The rest of it is an Oscar bait flick of a woman overcoming her addiction that has pretty much become a parody on Oscar-type films. You get the feeling like it was solely made for that specific category (Andrea is even listed as one of the executive producers of the flick), and the Academy took the bait.

It's sad that all she needed to do campaign wise is wait till the last minute, call up some of her friends, and post something on social media when other deserving actresses who've actually tried and gained steam over the award season got forgotten. I'm not saying she's undeserving, just that there are many worthy performances that go unnoticed every year and it was a bit unreasonable to expect accolades for a movie most film buffs haven't even heard of when you barely did anything to promote it.

Morbius is the snub of all time, just kidding. The actual few snubs I’m upset about are how Nope could’ve been nominated for stuff like for Sound and Original Screenplay and Top Gun: Maverick not being in the Cinematography category, apart from the Oscars embarrassing themselves every year. I’m also predicting that someone will make a joke about the Will Smith slap and then right after, it’ll hopefully be a standard Oscars. Moving forward from this, there’s lots of films nominated for awards that I haven’t seen, such as Tár, Everything Everywhere All at Once, and The Whale, which I plan on watching right before the ceremony so that they’re fresh in my mind and I’m excited to see them.
