This is great. Been wanting to get into AoS but haven't been able to find a channel that talks about the lore that isn't just reading off the wiki. So a channel that talks lore AND gives book reviews is a blessing
If you haven’t yet, I highly recommend the Kharadon Overlord books. C.L. Werner’s series is fantastic so far, with apparently a third book on the way. Arkanaut’s Oath is a truly stellar book with world builder and annotations to translate Khazalid (the language of most Dwarves/Duardin) and Kharadrid (the unique dialect of Khazalid unique to the KO). Also both just have some fantastic characters, main and side. Gord’s one of my favorites. Edit: If you’re gonna read C.L. Werner’s series, I recommend you read the short story, Shiprats first, it gives you a fell for the crew, and does even more awesome world building.
I did put it on my to read list but after reading a bunch of not-so-great Werner books, I've pushed it down the list a bit. But who knows, maybe I gotta give Werner's books another chance :)
@@barthelloren my experiences with Werner so far have been positive and Arkanaut’s Oath is written by Guy Haley, who I have only had positive experiences with. Granted I only do AoS books (with the exception of Gotrek & Felix), so I can’t say anything of their track records in 40K or Fantasy. Also I use audiobooks and Andrew James Spooner is a fantastic narrator for KO books. Also that comes with the caveat that read and listened experiences can be different. But I do hope you give the KO books a chance. They are very fun and actually relatable in some areas, I personally can’t recommend them enough. Edit: I goofed and said David Guymer when I meant Guy Haley.
@@riokollivier For the record I did cover Arkanaut's Oath when it came out, the review is on my channel. I might do they other KO books when I get to covering their faction in more depth, but for now I'm mostly looking towards new releases and books relevant to next year's channel theme
Highly recommend the Kharadron Overlords books. Arkanaut’s Oath is a great stand alone focusing on the life and challenges of a fun character. C.L. Werner’s books are a great series I hope gets the third entry soon! If you read the series, I recommend you read the short story, Shiprats, first.
It's a shame that this novel was so boring to me, I really liked the short story I had read about Yndrasta and I love the model. But this book is a slog.
Welp could always use her as conversion material for the Battle Sisters or Blood Angels I guess. Or use her as a dope Avacyn conversion piece (I still want to do that myself!) if you're into MTG.
Its been saturated with the taint of lesser "Strong female characters" that it can't help but give off very unpleasant vibes. However i think Yndrasta coats it in enough blood that she can get a pass.
