Listen to him play blues. Yngwie def has great feel people telling you this don’t understand music. Just because Yngwie plays fast doesn’t mean he doesn’t have any soul in his playing because he def has soul in his playing.
This isn’t even as clean as prime Yngwie but clarity together with the speed is what makes him so good. Others may have gotten to that speed but clarity always suffered. Not with pre car crash Yngwie
He's calmed much more in the recent years. Nowhere near as he was before. He now looks like he really has fun and doesn't really want to win a competition. I've always enjoyed Yngwie's music but now, much more.

@@hippiepunktristan7796 Thank you bro but as you can see people like to tweak my comments and then steal them and somehow pull in 10 times as many likes. It’s nice to know we can’t all be original, but then get screwed by the people that just stick out more. Is my mistake not having a profile pic? Lmao. I mean, Tesla invented the lightbulb and the radio and basically gets no credit Edit: I was about to get rid of this because it’s actually inaccurate, other guy posted first but I did not steal his idea. I was gonna just delete this but I’m too intrigued by the fact that I got a like within 10 minutes lol
@@bradejensen Lmao yeah, I’m sure he is. I bet he produces all his own stuff. I already kind of assumed that but just posted this for fun, anyway. You can tell because it’s legitimately great music. More often than not, that means the artist produced it or at least had some hand in doing so because they don’t have somebody else influencing the music, or at least not as much as with other artists. Don’t get me wrong, though. There are plenty of great producers that can take an amazing piece of music and make it even better. One awesome example (imo) would be Unearth’s III: In the Eyes of Fire, which was produced by Terry Date. Blew my mind how such an old school guy could help a very modern metal band sound immaculate. That album is literally masterful, front to back. When that album dropped it was probably the highlight of my freshman year in high school
This man doesnt even look at the fretboard while playing this!! He's on another level, imagine what is something hard enough for him to pay that he has to look at the fretboard to focus... This is the top man.
My dad has Yngwie Malmsteen CD when i was still 4 y.o and would play it every weekend, this song used to be my lullaby for afternoon nap LOL me and my brother grew up to be metalheads
Someone who has never touched a guitar... I personally can't really enjoy this style,p I'm more a Gilmour guy... But even then, it's obvious that this dude is an absolute beast.
@@navdragoni agreed, I've never been a fan of 50 billion 64th notes just for the sake of it. Michael Angelo Batio, same thing. I never have cared for speed for the sake of speed.
He's such a presence. I went in one of his workshops - was actually a workSHOW. And had the pleasure to meet him in the airport later (yeah, I went full crazy fan, cause you know, it's YNGWIE). When I saw him, he pointed at me and said "WORLD ON FIRE, MAN! WORLD ON FIRE" (he was promoting that album too), and oh man! It felt just like I've been chosen by a god HAHA the man really has a thundergod aura on him, simple as that. Long live Y.J. Malmsteen!
That's a pedal point riff, it's super common on piano and in classical music in general ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sW3Guqcy6b0.html
Something magical happened when Yngwie sat down to record this session. His playing on these clips is more energetic and powerful than I've ever heard anywhere else, by a long shot. Even the tone is massive and to my ear different than anywhere else I've heard him play. (I wonder if it's different gear than usual) Just incredible. I return to this particular video for inspiration at least monthly.

That´s the same exact reason that i made a mp3 out of that particular version. It´s amazing. On 4:00 it starts. 4:04, this amazing bend, and the 4:06 superb riff with the screaming reinforced bend. Perfect 1000 times.
Never thought I would cry to a Yngwie Malmsteen solo. People who say no soul, should come back and hear it when you get unwarranted hate from the world. The feelings of hatred, anger, humiliation, and pain, this solo is a mix of all of it
I know, right? It's the best display of economy of movement that I've ever seen. Malmsteen may be an egotistical bastard sometimes, but he has more than earned that right.
I love his use of the tremolo bar. Perfectly timed. Adds another dimension to his vibrato. This has to be the ultimate version of this tune he ever played.
Actually, he made a couple of false notes here and there... Compare it with the studio version or the best version of this song, the 1989's "Live At Leningrad" version, which is probably his absolute best moment ever ;)

He is one of the BEST soloists in the world. There is very few who can play the baroque period guitar style. He is a reminder to practice everyday and work on your scales.
its not about playing something baroque. even tho bach for example is not easy to play on any guitar, its more about the interpretation. u can really just visit any school for musicians and find alot of people that can play older music :D yngwie is great tho
2023 and still i can never get enough of this man's music. The world needs to know there is only one G.O.A.T. I present to you Yngwie J Malmsteen. Speed Accuracy Technique and makes you sit and watch him play. *Take your guitar and use it as a coffee table. 😅
I can understand many critisisms of Yngwie- he does overplay at times and maybe doesnt have a super deep bag of tricks but theres one thing that he's not and thats unemotional. Nobody likes playing guitar as much as Yngwie, he likes it so much that he wants to do as much of it as he can. He's unbelievably passionate.
So obvious that he enjoys every little note and wiggle of vibrato he plays, regardless of how many thousands of times he must have played this song. The people that say Yngwie has no soul or feeling in his playing are only in tune with the bluesy bends they've been told over and over are the only way to be soulful on the instrument. Why don't you realize you can get a lot more out of music appreciation if you're not pre-screening all of your opinions by asking yourself, "Is this what everyone else generally agrees is talented or moving or impressive?"
+TheFabio Imo fast playing can be super soulful and show skill, I mean seriously playing fast is rly difficult and sometimes is just naturally emotional. Completely agree with your point
+Joe Cockx but is all about what you play fast, playing scales fast in my opinion is pretty shit. someone like marty friedman though is pretty good playing fast, for example his stuff in megadeth
While I agree that he's a fantastic player, nobody's perfect, which also applies here. I noted a few mistakes in his playing, but that just confirms his own humanity, else I'd be spooked. Cheers.
how can people say his playing is emotionless? I disagree, he's not just a mindless shredder, his touch is super recognizable and unique, the articulation is never boring, he's not just blindly going up and down scales. His bendings and vibratos are iconic. Don't get me wrong, there are mindless shredders, but I think he's not one of them. His solos aren't mindless shredding, just rock n roll on steroids.
He so is. Just another 80's bach n' roller. They all sounded pretty much the same. He is fast and technically skilled nobody can doubt but there are few adults that want to listen to him for very long.
@@PlanktoniusRex considering that the average iq in the world is 105, your comment doesn't make these "few adults" look like inferiors, but the opposite to that...
@@saulfernando557 never mastered the actual solo - since the whole song is like a solo I’m fine with just playing all the other parts. This song taught me about harmonic minor scales & how to use diminishes sweeps
It's astounding. At his fastest, he has so little movement in his right hand - the economy involved would be unbelievable if I didn't see it with my own eyes. He makes it look effortless, and then I pick up my guitar to try and replicate that, and lol...no. ;-)
I've probably watched this video 25 times over the years and it never fails to impress. Absolute masterpiece! Fun drinking game idea... drink every time he changes pickups lol
This Is probably my favorite performance of this Song. Much respect to this man, immense Guitar player! The more I watch him playing the more I want to pick my guitar!
There is only one person in this world can play far beyond the sun that’s the maestro self and no one else . Please keep playing and touring. Your no 1 fan from Rotterdam since 1984 Tatje
Yngwie's sense of timing is not (and never was) that great, especially in rythm guitar. Though, it's totally forgivable considering the rest of his skill set and his impact to the music in general.
@@user-er5kg5cm3b bro he was a god like rhythm player when he was young even still now he was always tight go back and watch some concerts he was an extremely good rhythm player
@@bradejensen fun fact, malmsteen has what is called "perfect pitch" or "absolute pitch". He can almost literally *measure* what note he is hearing. Make a _beeeep_ near him and he can tell you "it's a D but a tiny bit flat", without a reference note or anything. _However_ people with this ability (which is innate and extremely extremely difficult to _acquire_ ) have _greater_ difficulty learning to distinguish _intervals_ than people without it. Not that it is a "challenge" for them to learn it anything, just that for _them_ it is _more_ difficult. How scientists reached these conclusion? No fuckin' clue 😐
If anything, the guy is underrated. His technique and style was so revolutionary and influential, that his ability as a composer can get overlooked. The studio version of this track is a fucking incredible piece of music, and that's very evident in how it came out in the cover by that amazing Japanese band, with the cute and astonishingly talented violinist. Yngwie is one of the absolute all-time greats.
@jorgerodriguez145 By "they" you mean those of us who understand the music and Yngwie's impact. But unfortunately there are numerous music fans and stupid critics/journalistics who don't get and don't have enough depth to feel and grasp his music and playing. Back in the 80s there was this boring mantra that Yngwie couldn't write good songs; this at the time Trilogy came out, which had a ton of great songs! So you're right, he's not underrated by those whose opinions matter, but he is still underrated more in some wider circles.
Yngwie knows how to make a guitar sing! If only all people can comprehend fast music. Every note matters. That part from 4:00 to 4:24 is something big musicians don't manage to write in a whole career. Look up what guitar stars say about Yngwie.
@@genius7328 but im sure yngwie is one of a kind musician, even some people takes practice like he does they cant be malmsteen, there are some people born talented
Honestly, the more I watch this video, the more I believe something magical really has been caught on tape here. Yngwie's soul really was connected to his instrument !
Jack Pot It’s a ’simple’ economy picked F#m9 arpeggio from the fifth string in the interval order 1 9 3 5 1 9 3 with some vibrato on the end. Actually one of the easier parts of the song and quite enjoyable to play. A great pattern to know for improvising in other genres aswell. Many people struggle with rolling your ring finger for that 4th interval between the D and G string but there are ways around that. Good luck!
Thank for making me laugh. I feel like shit. I seen Yngwie Malmsteen play in October of 2003 G3 show. It was funny seeing him kick picks in the crowd. And, that was Yngwie Elvis period.

@Orpheas Malliamanis No they arent the same thing. A book has letters our eyes dont have letters but they can see letters. Letters that are meant to be seen from our eyes to the book. The letters are the grain of the wind with the eyes we have in our heads. What you say?
Nah..if you watch the entire video you'll see him flop on some classical music stuff from Bach which wasn't meant to be played on guitar and acknowledge it. He also acknowledges he can't play fully alternate picking, like Al di Meola does. The point being the reality of Guitar. Guitar is way too broad in versatility to be mastered by a single man. The known man that is the closest to be that versatile is named Guthrie Govan.
I get what people mean when they say "Malmsteen doesn't play with feel", but from what I hear and see. Malmsteen has feel, from the way he utilizes vibrato on the notes he plays, and the faces he makes when he bends. As well as the presence and movements he has on stage really connects with me. Note that this is also coming from me, a guy who has played and listen to almost everyhthing from blues, glam metal, classic rock, funk and more.
It's not that malmsteen doesn't have feel but the feel is very rare most of his solos are just note density for people who aren't interested in becoming shred gods, this being a rare exception with an insane amount of feel in a lot of parts. If you see him playing the "blues" you'll se what I mean, he plays the blues scale at 300 BPM.no point in that. But he is exceptional technically,no doubt.
TO EVERYONE CLAIMING YNGWIE'S "JUST SHREDDING": 1. He's doing way more than just shredding, even in this song. Although he's shredding a lot. 2. Just because he's shredding a lot, doesn't mean he can't play anything else! I personally love to shred, but I do love many other styles as well. Take Gary Moore's soloing for example - his guitar is almost litterally crying some times! 3. "I can play way better than him, because I play with emotion and doing better things than just shred"
@@scoobyroo5000 MR alternate picks and sweeps more cleanly but Yngwie bends better and has much better phrasing. Completely different players. MR is a robot compared to Yngwie.
@@bautistagarais488 Plus MR's tone leaves quite a bit to be desired IMHO. A great technical player, for sure, but not organic sounding. Yeah, 'robot'-like as Cheximus aptly put it...
I have had the recording of your for over 20 years and I think this sounds awesome the tone of his strat and him sounding as awesome as Neo Classical Godfathers go and I don't think out of the hundreds of guitarists I've listened to over the years, I think this guy is as good as it gets, so Sweden created a classical music loving, guitar God, genius of a guy who is still super fast, I've been a massive fan of his and many more Instrumentalists and lead guitar player's I have, and when you create your own genre of metal like Yngwie did, you have to be as intelligent and confident as it comes, with skills to back it up, and I believe he has it all 🤘🙏
He was my presentation to "metal music" when I was young. Since I came from a very classical & baroque music background, my father loved that, I liked Rising Force instantly. It amazed me and it still does. Funny how Yngwie, and lots more, miss the little spring on their Strat's tremolo bar ☺
All these people saying YJM has no soul. His soul is a ball of energy on the verge of explosion at all times. You don’t have to like the guy but you should respect that he is true to himself and has influenced more musicians than you can hope to. “How can less be more? More is more!” Yngwie I love Gilmore and Vaughn for their soul smooth and deep but love Yngwie for his soul of fire!
I want this version on Spotify, Yngwie!! In my opinion, this is peak Malmsteen I'm glad I was born on the same timeline as this legend. As much as I live the whole song 5:20-5:35 are such a cool use of the melody.
People can say what they like about his faults as a character, but this is pure guitar sorcery of the highest order! Fantastic stuff. It's not just the picking and sweeps, the tone and broad vibrato at every moment, he's playing like a demon!
