I wanted to do a brief overview of the YogaBook C930 before I start to delve deep into the specific functionality, which I’ll do in other videos. I tried to focus on the E Ink Display in this video, showing as much of the functionality as I could, without making the video too long.
Stay tuned for videos featuring the YogaBook C930 as a tool for artists, an option for light / casual gaming, the best accessories, LTE version, and a comparison of it and the 1st Generation YogaBook.
Disclosure: I am a Lenovo INsider, part of Lenovo's Customer Advocacy Program. The Yoga Book C930 was sent to me, by Lenovo, for my personal use. Opinions are my own.

Best review of the e-ink functions, the most mentioned but least demonstrated in detail functions of the YB. Thanks. Please make more videos on the YB C930 if you find more e-ink functions.

Yep two years later found this and was really grateful... This is my third Lenovo device.. at least recently. Trying to figure out how to use the e-ink screens on both of this and the newer thinkbook Plus Gen 2.. Lenovo is one of two companies I care enough about to get really PO'd when they screw things up. At least it's one of two companies that make interesting toys.

I really appreciated and enjoyed listening your thorough description of YB's capabilities. You explored those functionalities where other reviewers did not at all mention. As a college student I have a question about YB note taking while in the classroom. How easy is it to write and save several note files while a lecture is going on?
@Leafworth
@Leafworth 4 года назад
It will autosave notes made in the e ink app to OneNote. You do have to set it up with your Microsoft credentials in the e ink settings. It kind of dumps them all into your default folder, so you'll have to rename and sort later. I've used it to take notes at physics seminars at the local college many times. Had a really good experience using it in that context.

Hi! I saw that you're part of the Lenovo community (I saw your name and review there after seeing this video 😄). While searching there I saw that now you can edit pdfs on the device as well as read kindle books. I sadly couldn't find the thread where they first mention that update. In any event, can you please confirm if this is true and to what extent? It seemed like maybe you couldn't actually write on the pdf but that there are new buttons that allow you to underline and add a text box? I'm not sure which I'd my reason for asking. Also there seems to be new features with the December 2019 update. I'm sorry if I'm asking for a lot. If there's a link you can direct me to for answers that would be great. This was a great video. I actually want to use the device for my Japanese studies and being able to write on my pdf textbooks would be awesome. Plus my son could do his homework on the e-ink pdf display which would save his eyes while he's doing online learning. Btw the art drawing feature is a huge perk for me as an artist as well so seeing how to configure it is going to be really helpful if I purchase this device. Do you still use it? Thank you so much for your time and reviews, they're great!
@Leafworth
@Leafworth 4 года назад
Jahayra C Yes, PDF annotation is in. You can make notes to, highlight text, and similar. I’m assuming that what you meant by editing. Also, you can resize the font in a .txt file. A lot of the rest of what you’re asking about is possible with the screen mirroring function. You would read Kindle Books using the Windows Store App, mirror the main display, and flip the device over to view on the E Ink display. The main display can be shut off, allowing you to continue reading on the E Ink display, consuming less power. Yep, use it just about every day. I still haven’t found anything in a companion class device that I like as much. I’ve been pretty busy with work and consulting lately, but I’m always glad to answer questions. Apologies for the long delay, and good luck with all you do. :)

@@Leafworth Thank you so much for your response! I went ahead and bought the Yoga Book! Newegg had a sale on it for $600 and I just couldn't pass it up. It finally arrived today. Still getting it set up for my needs. Edit: the updates from Lenovo makes it so that it automatically turns off the main screen when mirroring is enabled and leaves the e-ink screen available. I'm loving this ability. I've been testing it and so far it's been hrs.y reading websites via e-ink, kindle books (most download app from Amazon) and making written notes on pdfs. And the main display has been nice too ^_^ thanks again.

Just an FYI, I find that the fingerprint sensor works better if your finger is slight oily. Try using oil from your face on your finger or some very small amount of lotion on the finger - not too much. It only needs just a small amount to "see" your fingerprint for consistency. Also, check Lenovo's forums for updates - Lenovo has added some additional features since this video has been put out.

Thanks for the tip. And, yeah, I definitely want to make another video. They have added a lot of features since this video. PDF annotation and mark up, and TXT file screenshot and font size adjustment at minimum. It's a lot like how it is on other devices, but sayibg that is not the same as actually seeing someone do it. Thanks for the comment. :)

Ho do you find typing in the dark without having backlit on the e-ink? I do have the 1st gen YB and often use it in my bed at night without lights on not to disturb my other half and the backlit keyboard comes handy. dont like the on screen keyboard as it does not come on and disappear automatically like on smartphones. Yes. If you fold it back into tablet mode, with the main display facing down it turns off. Then,, you can double tap the E Ink display to activate it. It saves battery life, considerably. If the Windows operating system is locked, you can still take a note this way, but people can't see your other notes. Keen security feature.

No. You can sync or copy from E Ink to Primary, and vice versa with different apps and functionality, but the two are essentially separate. If you wanted it to be like the Gen 1, it’s a bad thing. I'd like to do another video with the latest updates, I just haven't had the time. Swamped with work. I do use the YogaBook C930 every day, and really like it, particularly with the new E-Ink screen features. There is a very real possibility that the YogaBook C930 is discontinued. I and other Lenovo INsiders have tried to get clarity on that. Lenovo still runs advertising and a product page for it though. Could be a supply issue, given what's going on in the world right now. I have been able to find mid-spec 128GB YBC930s at Best Buy in the US local and through their website.

Second Question: When I "sync" with OneNote,what I get in One Note? just images or notes takes as I wrote on the One Note app? Thank you.
@Leafworth
@Leafworth 4 года назад
Alfonso Mantero yes, you can use the pen on the deck like the create pad functionality of the first generation Yoga Book. Sync’d notes are flattened to a single image. 😕 Not ideal, and they all get dumped into your Personal (Web) notebook, to be sorted later. It’s better than nothing, but not quite what I’d like to see down the road.

Can you use the Wacom pen/barrel buttons to select and copy text from a document in the e-reader that you could normally select and copy text from in the LCD display? I mean, like e.g. is it painless to copy text rom a regular text file or an epub that supports text selection? For my use case I need to be able to copy and paste text from the e reader to my main screen. Ideally I'd set the barrel button to a special keyboard shortcut that works with a program in the main screen to register copied text. I can do that on my laptop easily, so the only question is about copying text and whether the pen functions universally across both screens seamlessly. Thanks for the up to date review!
@Leafworth
@Leafworth 5 лет назад
WeirdAlSuperFan Good question. I’ll try it on mine and see with different formats.
@Leafworth
@Leafworth 5 лет назад
I don’t think it will work for you. At the moment, I can take a marque tool to define screen captures, but I haven’t been able to get it to let me ‘select’ text in line. Also, because the cursor is rendered separately between screens, and barrel button shortcuts don’t stay consistently between them. That said, Lenovo has a new M14 USB-c travel monitor that works with the Yoga Book C930, even off AC power. I’m working on an accessory video with it, and some other options. I don’t know if that would help with your use case or not. Seems like just more things to carry, kind of defeating the purpose. 😕

Nope. It's Microsoft Pen Protocol. You need Wacom AES for the YogaBook C930.

Not at the moment. The E Ink Display can be used with the Note, Reader, Keyboard, and Settings applications.

Arthur Walker thank you. I already has the 1st gen, i want this badly but cant justify the urgency to upgrade. I think i’ll skip it.
