She was doing it long before she met John. After marrying heim she just continued being herself. Or should she stop doing what she was doing even before The Beatles existed just before she married John? For the record, her only solo show was staged in 1961 at the Carnegie Hall NY. In 1967, before she started dating Lennon, Ornette Coleman invited her to jam with him. And Lennon met her at HER art show in Indica Gallery. So what´s the point of your comment?

You folks think this is bad? Check out "Beatles jamming with Yoko Ono." Makes this look like a masterpiece. Be sure to check out the comments, too. The woman is incapable of shame. If she had talent or even a hint of charm, her body would reject it as a foreign substance.

This is crap. Yoko had her mind music concert staged in Carnegie Hall in 1961. Listen to her last album, Yes I´m a Witch, with collaborations between her and top indie artists and you´ll see what you saying is just ignorance. You don´t know what you´re talking about.

Personally I wish he hadn't. No wonder she took John back the next year. She never could cut it on her own. Anyone could do this provided they were desperate enough for some kind of notoriety or headlines.

Ono wasn't doing music before Lennon. She had no background in it (or talent) but that never stopped her. Till today she can't write (or sing). The reaction she received in Japan (horrible, imagine that!) led her to take John back in early 75. She needed him for recognition and he needed her for what he perceived as "security."

This is a 15 year old comment but the ignorance remains timeless…. Yoko was classically trained in opera and piano and was an influential artist who was holding international exhibitions before she even met John Lennon, the only reason she met John was because she had contacted Paul to get some Beatle manuscripts as a gift for John Cage (one of the most influential avant garde composers of all time) As an Ex-Yoko hater myself, It was only when I opened my mind up to the alternative scenes of the late 70s (new wave) and the 90s (riot grrl) where her influence really clicked for me. For example listen to the B52’s or even stuff by Sleater Kinney and sonic youths and you can track her influence. As for yoko herself, her albums Feeling the Space and Approximately Infinite universe are more accessible and approachable as they are less noise-abstract and more traditional, I highly recommend.

@@kumogibeats3977 Classically trained in opera and piano? Opera with *that voice*? Have you ever considered comedy for a living? And if she was sooo musically gifted, why did she never play anything on her own "music?" From Double Fantasy all the way down to the 70's, the real musicians that worked with her said she had absolutely no knowledge of time signatures or keys or any musicality whatsoever. They literally scored everything for her and she took the credit. Just like she does now for co-writing Imagine. She never wrote a note of it, but she has co-writing credit. She did inspire it. Huge difference. And it's endlessly amusing that she refused to let Paul McCartney reverse the writing credits on some Beatle tunes that he exclusively wrote, yet good old Ono now thinks she co-wrote Imagine. Keep dreaming.

@@Toodlem But all jokes aside, obviously we agree to disagree, I'm a happy Yoko Ono listener and It's a shame you cant find enjoyment in even a fraction of her work, I just think the old tired and trite take of "Yoko ono bad" has lost any semblance of actual meaningful critique. To what end would John outwardly lie about Yoko's involvement in the writing process of the music? Yoko didn't need to prove anything to anyone as she has already been an accomplished artist pre-meeting John (Carnegie Hall 1964), John was inspired by the scene she was at the forefront of (the Fluxus Movement) to take Avant-Garde elements into his writing, Yoko is also seen co-producing both Plastic Ono Band and Imagine, giving thoughtful instruction to the arrangement of the music along with John, Yoko is not without her flaws (As is John, particularly her and Johns treatment of Julian) but like man, she's such a cool artist and honestly has put out so much cool work in her career both in music and in art. Perhaps the Woman who 'is incapable of shame' as you put it is that way because of the intense backlash she has received her entire career from Day 1, I wouldn't have any shame either, because why feel shameful in front of close-minded people? I imagine you wouldn't like Kandinsky, Pollock or Andy Warhol if they weren't assimilated into mainstream adoration, what makes Yoko so different from those other artists who are revered for being bold and left-field?
@Toodlem
@Toodlem 2 года назад
@@kumogibeats3977 She played Carnegie Recital Hall and didn’t even come close to filling it, and it’s tiny. Yeah, she co-produced those LP’s just like she co-wrote Imagine. Had she not been married to Lennon, she would have been laughed out of any audition to get a recording contract as the woman *can’t sing.* She’d last about 30 seconds on The Gong Show. And it would only be that long because it would take that long to recover from laughing and realize she’s actually serious. Witness Chuck Berry’s reaction to her “singing” on the Mike Douglas Show in ‘72. It’s precious. And hardly unique. What the woman lacks in talent she also lacks in charm. Add that to her legendary sense of entitlement and you’re stuck with absolutely no appeal whatsoever. The only people she ever convinced she had talent was herself, John Lennon, Sean, and Elliott Mintz. And Mintz got paid for it. What makes Yoko different from the other artists is that virtually anyone can warble in front of a microphone and insist they’re talented. She brings absolutely nothing to the table and has always needed to associate herself with others to get any recognition. She has always craved fame and recognition but has never had the talent to merit it. That’s why she is continuously leeching off Lennon’s carcass. Without it, no one cares.
