Let's drive around Yokohama downtown, Chinatown and the harbor together.
Yokohama is the little brother of Tokyo. It's the Kobe to Osaka, the Brooklyn to New York and the Oakland to San Francisco. That said, all the places just listed are incredible cities to visit and to live. Maybe not Oakland. Oakland is a bit rough. A few friends have moved to Yokohama in the past years and upon visiting, I can see why they did.
Both moved for different reasons. One lives near Yokohama station and is working in the city at an office. The other has a family and lives more in the suburbs. Although on either sides of the spectrum and in very different living conditions, I felt comfortable and fresh while walking the streets and taking in the environment.
So there I was, and you know me, before long I found myself in Chinatown. With Filipino blood most likely there is some Chinese lineage in there, so that could explain it. Yokohama is the greatest Chinatown in Japan aside from the places where actual Chinese live in Japan. It's commercialized, it's a Japanese-Chino hybrid food culture and restaurant scene, but like the rest of the world's Chinatowns the energy is hot and the chicken spicy.
Enjoy.
