I heard the entire Brdcst last Saturday with tenor Lee as Calaf, but though a similar sound as here, I'd say he was better here in 2011in the Turandot aria, but that's only one performance, hardly a fair comparison. I've seen many artists at Orchestra hall Chicago (now sadly called Symphony center )at #705 he sings some of the Juive aria, he uses the similar slow tempo of the great versions with Neil Shicoff live in 2003, and some similar attacks as Shicoff , yes here he sounds better then last week as Calaf but of course the sound here is also better, anyhow nobody can beat Corelli live as Calaf anyhow I'm not a huge Corelli fan but that opera in our time, he owned. Anyhow the acoustics at orchestra hall (now re-named Symphony center, but always Orchestra hall for me) are Superb , as the Chicago Symphony orchestra Recorder there very often.
@@shicoff1398 I will definitely make a visit to the Hall of Chicago. People loves to rename things. At Lincoln center, they sold the name of Avery Fisher Hall to a new guy's name, but I still call it Avery Fisher Hall!!! I am not "young", I usually hate those "updates"...
@@shicoff1398 Met Turandot is not brand new production, I should say. It is kind of minor change of the classic old one. But they change the emperor's dress into black, kind of like a Kong Fu Master or Japanese fighter... It is the singing and voice, the second and third acts... that really counts!!!
@@shicoff1398 Though Dmitri is not Bastianini, but among this era's baritones, I enjoyed his singing the most. Here is another Verdi opera of his. RIP great artist. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GtzvmfDACFU.html
Bravo Yonghoon Lee, desde Perú recibe un afectuoso abrazo, impresionante voz y recién es el comienzo. Bravooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh, he is wonderful. I think he is more of a lyric spinto. He has the soul of an artist and he doesn't strain. Very nice. Obviously a lot of expensive training,
however it is he's interpreting these songs, he is the highest in demand spinto tenor next to jonas kaufmann and is selling out every show he's in at the Met. what more do you want?
@@道-p2e He sounds nothing at all like Wunderlich to me. Fritz Wunderlich was a 100% lyric tenor, not spinto or dramatic and this man is more a Spinto tenor. Lee has a more dramatic type voice then the great Wunderlich, who was really a magnificent Lyric tenor and yes that Granada is sensational, (The way Fritz sang that song, some people said he reminded them of the Mario Lanza sound in it) if only Fritz had lived longer then age 35, when he died in 1966 I think he had the greatest natural Lyric tenor in the world! Gedda then at that time was a leading artist as a lyric tenor, with a long career, but had Wunderlich lived I think he would have lasted a very long time also, with a perfect technique. RIP. Wunderlich 1930-1966, dead at age 35 because of a tragic accident.
why do all the up and coming operatic singers learn so well how to sing on the beat without sliding around it, then learn an aria and then sing it in the interpretive style of past greats? scooping and sliding are for crooners, not new up-and-coming operatic stars. thumbs down for interpretation but thumbs up for the voice...thank you none the less.
I don't think he even slightly approaches Franco Correlli's sound. He has an elegant style but the way he alters Italian vowels is distracting and the sound is not varied much.
I think Yonghoon is very very talented, but it seems like his sound is stuck in his throat much of the time. Perhaps that is his natural timber. Doesn't work for me. Neither does Kaufman. I just prefer tenors that sound like tenors and not baritones.
