Thank you so much! Your videos are the ONLY ones I have found that really do a great job of explaining how to work the 622n-tx and 622n triggers.

Hi there, 1 question, on what camera and settings are you using the sb400? i have a 7k and my sb400 doesn't work (neither in ttl, neither on manual or at1/125 or 1/320 FP) only if is on camera. I've tested the transivers and controller with an sb700 and an sb600 and works perfect. thanks

Very informative demonstration. What flashes are you triggering?And what are the settings on the flash? You use 622n as the slave on each flash right?
@ScottJWaldron
@ScottJWaldron 10 лет назад
I was probably using the SB-800 and SB-400 at the time. Yeah, each flash needs a 622N attached. The flash have to be in TTL mode for the commander to have control of settings.

In your opinion, should I spend more to get this trigger, or save up a little and get the YN-560-TX? I'm looking for my first flash, and I can't decide whether I need HSS or not.

Please I need your help. I have just bought a YN685 speed light, a YN622N transreciever and YN622N-TX. I want to use the YN685 speed light as my on camera flash and my Nikon SB 700 as my off camera flash using the Y622N and YN622-TN. Please what are the necessary steps to set this up. I use a Nikon D5300
@ScottJWaldron
@ScottJWaldron 8 лет назад
If you want the YN685 on-camera, you would have to use a basic YN-622N transceiver where the flash would receive pass-through data. Otherwise, use the YN-622N-TX with a flash bracket connected to the camera. That way, you have the flash basically "on camera" and the other flash off camera. Each flash would be set to a different group in the 622N-TX settings.

Hi I have an SB-400 and a YN-568 EX with the commander and 622n triggers, The 568 works flawlessley and i'm super happy with with but the SB400 just wont fire is there anything you did to make it work? If i press the test button it fires but when triggered by the camera it doesn't. If i turn red eye reduction flash on I see the three pre-flashes get triggered but not the actual flash itself! Thanks!!

Hi, I have 2 SB800 and both don't work at all on the YN622N with the TX. I borrowed a SB900 and that worked flawless for the 10 shots that I tested. I've read many other problems and watch similar experiences on RU-vid so I'm very surprised to see you have it working. Can you share specifics? Did you have to do anything special to make it work?
@ScottJWaldron
@ScottJWaldron 10 лет назад
I didn't do anything special. The 3rd Yongnuo 622N unit I had bought a year or two after the first two units was a little quirky and didn't work with my SB-400, but it still worked with my SB-800 95% of the time (a power cycle of everything usually fixed it). All I can say is to contact Yongnuo directly and see if they have any idea.

I am reading through the questions and one is exactly the same as what I have...I hope you are still tracking this video. anyway, my question is how to use the triggers in manual mode if I don't want TTL. You said "The flash itself must always be set to TTL. Then in manual mode on the trigger, it should be able to change power. If it doesn't work for you, I'd suggest contacting Yongnuo." so just to clarify...don't put the flash and the trigger in manual mode. Just the trigger?

Put the flash in i_TTL mode and then you can change it on the TX transmitter to use i-TTL or Manual etc. (the changes won't be shown on the back of the flash it will always show i_TTL on the flash screen)

Hello. I was wondering how high speed sync works. I have a D800 with SB700 flash. If I wanted to shoot portraits in aperture priority at f/2.8 would this work as my shutter speed will be high (say 1/500th and higher) a lot of the time? Thanks.
@ScottJWaldron
@ScottJWaldron 10 лет назад
Yes, you can likely use that setup, but I'd make sure the SB-700 is on the supported flash list. When setting it up, the flash would be in i-TTL mode and your camera would be set in the internal menu for 1/250* (auto FP sync) or something like that. I'd have to dig into the camera menus to give an exact setting name and value. Keep in mind that FP sync lowers your range, so if you are shooting sports you would have to figure out if the flash is even doing much for the exposure at whatever distance it needs to be from the playing field.
@adamaj74
@adamaj74 10 лет назад
Just for portraits. I want to make sure I can shoot wide open for the bokeh, but that means my shutter speed will go up, so I was just making sure the Yongnuo would allow that. Thanks!

Hi everyone, I'm considering purchasing one of these units, together with a Yongnuo YN-685 flash. To be used on a Fujifilm X-T1. Is there any way to fire HSS, on an X-T1, by mounting the YN-622 on the camera - or is this strictly related to all other brands (e.g. Canon, Nikon, etc.)? Thanks for a great video!
@ScottJWaldron
@ScottJWaldron 7 лет назад
I haven't looked at Yongnuo equipment in a long time, but unless they have a Fujifilm version, you won't get HSS. You need to find a trigger system that supports Fujifilm's version of TTL.
@ScottJWaldron
@ScottJWaldron 7 лет назад
It looks like the Cactus V6 II supports HSS for Fujifilm. www.cactus-image.com/v6ii.html
@markledingham4942
@markledingham4942 7 лет назад
Thanks for getting back on this. The Canon or Nikon versions of the 622 are supposed ti be able work as normal triggers for the Fujifilm X cameras and the YN685 flashes, but the interesting thing for me is to know if I can use them to fire in conjunction with the HSS function on my X-t1. I'm looking into the Cactus trigger, as well; it's just that I would need 2-3 of these (at an additional cost).
@ScottJWaldron
@ScottJWaldron 7 лет назад
They might fire off the flash, but you won't get any features that need TTL data such as HSS. In HSS, the camera communicates with the trigger telling flash to fire off multiple times in sync with the camera's shutter. It's not possible to do HSS without the trigger getting information from the camera. I don't know of any single pin triggers that do it (or TTL triggers like the 622 that have a fall-back single pin mode that will still support HSS). The Cactus apparently supports HSS on Fuji and I'd assume their RF60 flash. All of this is a big reason I switched from Pentax to Nikon because 3rd party flash/trigger companies are bad at supporting the smaller camera makers. Even with the Cactus units it would be a good idea to make sure everything you plan to do works well.
@markledingham4942
@markledingham4942 7 лет назад
Thanks again. It looks like I still have some investigating to do before deciding on one or the other. The crazy thing here is that the Yongnuo YN-685 is made for both Canon and Nikon cameras, allowing me to use either version for "normal" flash photography on my X-T1 (together with a trigger like the YN-622). Fujifilm has also come out with an update, just a short while ago, making it easy for X-T1 users to use the Nissin i60 flash - that has HSS built into it. The downside is the cost of the flash (about $340). And using one of these off-camera would still require a trigger of some kind. :(

@ScottJWaldron
@ScottJWaldron 8 лет назад
+Steve Gong Sorry, I don't know either. The last time I checked Yongnuo had no i-TTL flash with built-in 622 triggers. It might trigger their manual flash that have triggers, but it would be a waste because you can just pick up their intended commander instead. I shoot off camera manual settings a lot, so I use the Yongnuo YN560-III with the YN-622N and the YN-622N-TX on the camera. I also can do the same with the SB-800 and SB600. I can change the settings of the Nikon flashes right from the YN-622N-TX, with the YN-560, I have to go over to the flash to change settings. So another good option is a Yongnuo that is ready for Nikon TTL, there are several models, priced about $136 each. I like the Yongnuo products, have been using them for 3 months now.

You have to walk over to the YN560 and manually set it. Unfortunately, only TTL strobes, either Nikon or any for Nikon can be controlled right from tye YN622N-TX. But it does wake up and fire the non-TTL strobes which is how I use the YN560. My SB800 and other TTL strobes can be set remotely with the YN622N-TX.

Photography Banzai Hi, is there currently any yongnuo TTL capable flash with *built in* transceiver like the manual 560-3 has? I want to build a 3 light off camera setup but would love to keep number of components minimum and avoid separate transceiver units if I can, as they are additional small pieces to get lost. So if I get a 622NTX and put it on my camera can I buy a 565EX2 or 568EX2 flash and control them directly? Or do I need to buy separate 622N units for each flash for them to communicate? Photography Banzai so even if I choose to get one of their 565/568 flash I'd still have to buy the 622 units for each of them right? Okay, I figured it out from some forums reads but thank you very much for confirming. Now, do you suggest me to get a young nuo flash? Are they reliable? These are gonna be my first serious 3 light setup(used sb400 but that's not a serious light) so experienced input is priceless.

Yeah, the 568/565 don't have RF triggers inside. If you want that capability you will need a 622n for each flash. I haven't used my 568ex too much, but they have held up alright so far. Like you were saying, I want flash with built-in RF wireless. Right now I'm thinking of the Cactus v6 with Cactus RF60 flash because they work better for multiple camera systems and I want to sell some of my stuff and get a fuji x100t (though the v6 doesn't transmit TTL data, so no HSS and a few other features lost, they do have power adjustment from the camera trigger).

Currently, no Yongnuo flash that I know of have a 622 trigger in the flash. You need both a TTL flash and a 622 trigger to get TTL pass-through. I also don't think the 565ex has high speed sync. You would need a 568ex for that feature.

@ScottJWaldron
@ScottJWaldron 5 лет назад
Super Sync isn't the same thing as High Speed Sync. As I understand it SS/Super Sync is a special function to adjust flash timing to potentially get faster shutter speeds with higher duration flash like studio lights that don't support HSS. The flash itself needs to be capable of long flash durations otherwise it won't do much or work at all. This is a special case feature. I don't have these anymore and never had a way to really test it out properly. Reference: flashhavoc.com/new-yn-622-tx-has-manual-supersync-timing-adjustment/
