Not only he is one of the most diverse and talented actors out there, but he is also such a real person. Have been a fan of him for years but not once I have seen him being fake in an interview. He is not afraid to talk about how he was affected by the stardom but he is also aware that being popular does not mean you are a good actor. He is proud of his works but he is also aware of his shortcomings when he needs to be and he always works to improve his weak aspects. I also felt him when he said that he is disappointed that not many people seemed to like Chicago Typewriter because that’s truly one of his best works, I’m glad that he thinks so as well regardless of its’ popularity. I love how sincere and insightful he is throughout this interview and he is so likable as a person as well like he is as an actor. I am so glad many people are watching Hellbound right now too, he deserves to have more recognition globally as he is one of the best actors out there. He also has 3 upcoming movies with genres ranging from action to comedy and I really hope his hard work pays off. He deserves it.
Truth is, a lot of veteran famous actors are being exposed right now because of their acting, and people aren't buying the image they're still selling anymore. That "pretty boy" image, but lacking versatility. A lot more people are beginning to appreciate the acting and not the actor! I agree with you 💯 on everything you just said
Who are these people who didn't like Chicago typewriter? That's some serious lack of taste. I don't know much about acting but I know Ah In did a fantastic job in that project. Absolutely fantastic!
@@sr2193 Exactly! Everyone I know who has seen Chicago Typewriter loved it! I always recommend it to friends and not one has been disappointed after watching it. Maybe international fans love it more.
YES. For those that didn't watch Chicago Typewriter missed out on a real interesting series. Netflix took it away in October ps: Does anyone remember when he the author finally fessed up and decided to go introduce his ""ghost writer" to the press? That was so hilarious. I think of that scene a lot. I
I can’t believe, someone that has an addiction, the whole nation turns on him. He is one of the best actors of his generation, full of talent, charisma and charm. I just hope he knows how much he is loved and appreciated. Shame on the people that have humiliated him.
I really loved that he talked about trying to portray very diverse roles to increase the variety of male leads. He's an excellent actor and no two roles he's played have been the same. I love that he tries everything. I think he, along with some other notable actors, play a pivotal part in getting away from your typical kdrama male lead and expanding them into more complex characters. Truly admire him for that!
I loved it. Him and the two other leads were very compelling as freedom fighters in the 30s and as authors in the present day.. I ended up watching the works of those 2 actors as well because of this series. Its not a complicated storyline. Its just 2 different eras folks!! Am really pissed that it got neg reviews. Some people just like easy boring storytelling. The one scene that cracks me up to this day is the one time he went to fess up and introduce his "ghost writer" to the press. I still cackle when i think of this scene.😂
Is anyone out there who has Yoo Ah-In as their ideal person? Because he is my ideal type 😭 He is so calm, cool, nice, you can rely to him and he is a talented actor! We all need someone like him in our life. 🥺
This man is so different from other actors I like. With the others, you are just falling for their looks, but with this man, you are falling in love with his soul. He doesn't have the pretty boy looks but there is something about him that makes him a thousand times more attractive. He's a human being of substance and he seems so deep and mysterious. He makes all those other very attractive guys not even hold a candle to him, truly an ideal man.
He is just a unique and mysterious as well as lovable actor. He is intelligent, self aware, speaks his mind, isn't conforming to industry standards and is still humble and his own person. Hope he continues to get great roles from movies and enjoys what he is doing. Side note: Hope he blows up internationally and maybe an Oscar soon? Omg
i still dont understand why chicago typewriter was one of his most underrated and dare i say underappreciated work too because that kdrama was an absolute masterpiece.i watched it when it was released and i still feel so impacted by it. the plot was marvelous, the casting was so spot on too. yoo ah in was brilliant in it. i think ill forever think of chicago typewriter as one of the best kdramas ever made. back to how brilliant yoo ah in is, im currently doing a marathon watching his whole filmography. ive never seen him on a long interview so i was suprised how eloquent he is. i really think hes one of the best actors in sKorea, hes a true national treasure. i started hellbound bc of him and i know i wont be dissapointed because he always put his heart and soul into his works. im so proud of him and i really wish he'll get even more recognized on a more international level.
Finally someone saying it loud: a popular actor is not necessary a good actor. And his understanding of stardom, its effects and the fact that there are other ways to be a good actor and many routes to contribute to the cinema world, is refreshing to hear. That is why I like him soo much in every role he has. I know I already asked Netflix to pair him with Jeon Yeo Been (After my Death and Night in Paradise still haunt me), as I consider them having a similar understanding upon what acting and cinematography means, beyond stardom, popularity and fear of unpaved roads or atipical characters. So hear me once again you too, Swoon. 😀 These types of actors and actresses I want to watch and like me more. Because they don't just entertain us, but shake us to the core, educate us and create new roads and memorable characters, like groundbreakers. All the best for this actor and manny memorable projects in the future! 👏
@@0xyGen_2.p0 yeah, look at him gaining multiple awards and recognition from the people in this industry due to all sorts of movies, even small budged ones. Because celebrity and budgets not always equal quality as content and good acting skills. When I look at so manny great movies present at international festivals, but less known by public or streamed, both my heart and head suffer. I hope Netflix understands the need to satisfy all viewers, even the cinephiles ones. As the saying goes "there are movie fans; there are film lovers; and then there are cinephiles." 🙂
I liked this interview. I wish you would do more like this in the future. The games are cute and fun but it was great to hear his thoughts on his filmography.
Yoo Ah-In is an eccentric beautiful person who adds a unique flavor to all his characters. Secret Love Affair and Chicago Typewriter reeled me in and I hope Netflix can put these series back in. I just wish I can hug you and tell you everything is going to be alright. Please take care of your health, we’ll be waiting for your comeback and we love you immensely.
Yoo Ah In is the best actor in his generation. Plus, his choices of projects never disappoint. So varied and compelling. This man is a pure artist. And why does he have to be this eloquent? He is so ideal 🥺❤️
I enjoyed this interview so much. He is very well spoken. I realized that most of my favorite projects of his are his underrated ones. Chicago Typewriter is one of my fave dramas of his and of all kdramas and Burning is one of my fave movies of his. He is such a versatile actor and Great person as well.
@@yabangmo same Lol. And I have a LONG list !! still I make sure Chicago Typewriter is on the list right under his Sungkyunkwan Scandal ! And my analysis is, Well people will adore him in Sungkyunkwan and will want to watch more of him so I hit them with CTW💃🏻😌
even him knows that chicago typewriter did not do well while it was airing in korea yet he still loves it and i totally agree!! that show is indeed one of the most underrated kdramas. wow, he really showed different vibes in all of his characters and thats what makes him such a great actor!
CT is definitely one of the best K drama series. Don’t know why in SK it didn’t rate well? If YAI is in a series or a movie, I’m all in…… He definitely takes on some unusual roles, absolutely makes them his own.
'Eyes are the window to the soul.' There's this level of exhaustion that can can be seen in his eyes. One may mistake it for physical tiredness but for people who've been deep in their pain, one look is enough; it takes one to know one. Hong-shik is very articulate and vocal about societal issues. Also very self-aware as he describes the impact of each project he starred in. But even with that level of intelligence, when it comes to pain one could be clueless just like any other human being. You can talk about anything expertly but when things start hitting home, the evasion can be surprising. Self-awareness will not be enough to go against the quicksand of pain. It takes conscious will, effort and support of true friends to get out of the sadness that's starting to be comfortable over time. I've always expected a different persona behind every Korean artists because of how strict their system is. As an 'idol' you must satisfy the fantasies of the fans and hide your human struggles which is the most selfish a fan could ask for. But that's how things will work out for you; smile and pretend you're happy and everything everyone wants you to be.
Yooh ah_In is a very talented artist, a very good friend, kind. He is not perfect but he is a good person. His battling against insomnia destroyed him because he lives in Korea. Had he lived in other countries, he'll not be condemned like what is happening now. People in Korea are not considerate esp to artists and kpop.
As much as how young he is, I am very much getting almost like Johnny Depp vibes from him. He truly melts down to the core of every characters he plays. Definitely one of the coolest actors in Korea who holds so much integrity in his works!
I was thinking about the same thing before I saw your comment here... Yoo Ah In is the Korean Johnny Depp while Don Lee (Ma Dong Seok) is the Korean The Rock
"Being a popular actor is different from being a good actor." Yoo Ah-in Definitely yes, there are a lot of underrated actors out there who are better than some of the most popular actors nowadays. Good thing Yoo Ah-in is both a popular and a good actor :).
I'm so happy more ppl are falling in love with YAI ❤️ Y'all check his other works too: Chicago Typewriter, Burning, #Alive, Voice of Silence and the greatest hit 'Veteran' This man is a living legend and we do really have to appreciate it!
As his long time fan since his Sungkyunkwan Scandal days, what i really admire from Yoo Ah In is that his anwers regarding to what kind of actor he wants to be is constantly the same through the years. "A good actor that willing to learn for the rest of his life" 유아인 배우님 응원합니다! 🥰
Was it too complicated for the viewers ??? Cause i like how compliacted and different it was from others drama... plus... his fucking outfits ****beautiful.... it made me want to lose weight and dress like that... heheheh
it's not complicated. i would say unique, probably. historicals that are set in 80s or 30s really hits different. esp their outfits and the settings, chef's kiss. and yes yoo ah in's look and outfits there is iconic. i swear. after watching the movie alive i couldn't even recognize him there in chicago typewriter. you should try to check out hymn of death too. or mr. sunshine if you like that kind of era.
@@alexjade9515 I already watched Hymn of Death and Mr. Sunshine years ago, this might sound like a cliche but I haven't moved on with the whole events in the drama. Its a drama that even if I watch a thousand times, it will always feel like the first time. 💖
I liked Chicago Typewriter a lot !! Lol i watched it coz i live in Chicago. Its a shame some didn't like it. It was that type series whose characters and story stick in your mind a long time! Him and the other 2 leads were real compelling freedom fighters in it. Im so glad to hear that it was one of his favorites characters.
Chicago Typewriter is a friggin' masterpiece!! It's my favorite kdrama of all time. Every kdrama that I watched after paled in comparison. What made it even better was Yoo Ah In! Such a great actor 😍
You can see in this video that he was going through alot. We will never know what really made him get into drugs but i honestly hope he comes back. This amazing talent cant be wasted.
His Bang Won is amazing - unashamed to say I've watched Six Flying Dragons three times just to revel in his portrayal. His Sado, his Tae In, his Jong Su, all his characters are colored by his uniqueness. He disappears into his characters, he becomes them, and you can't help but be enthralled.
OMG this is me, I swear I watched six flying dragons again few weeks ago, and that's like my 4th time over the years, the series introduced me to YOO ah in and I've loved him ever since. He's such a good and versatile actor, probably the best actor of his generation.
I watched SIX FLYING DRAGONS, with YOO AH-IN more than 18(eighteen) times over the years, the all 50 episodes. I'm mesmerized by his acting and that10 minutes speech for Boon Yi(Shin Se-kyung)in the tent, at his father's army base, is a MASTERPIECE!!! (when he tied up Boon Yi because she found out he stamped the document)
I liked Chicago Typewriter a lot !! Lol i watched it coz i live in Chicago. Its a shame some didn't like it. It was that type series whose characters and story stick in your mind a long time! Love Yoo Ah In and darling man, Burning IS a great movie, just like Chicago Typewriter is a great drama. Those are two of my favorite projects of yours, as well as Secret Love Affair. Please come back to us healthy and whole as we really, really just can't live without you!
Listening to Yoo Ah-in talk is never boring. You always get something very insightful and fun at the end of it. It’s so wonderful to see all his diverse thoughts that go through in his work and for his work. That’s kind of what makes him a good artist to watch.
Yoo Ah In is the kind of actor who deeply understands the film/drama and the character, and has his own interpretation of the messages they deliver. You can see how he has grown throughout his filmography and still has potential to unleash. He can bring every character alive and tell their stories. Even when the portrayal could be despicably difficult, he always does it with ease, and without being satisfied easily. He is arguably the best actor in Korea and he is definitely my favourite one.
When it comes to Yoo Ah In words fail. He is the acting genius for me. I am so obsessed with his acting I have watched all his works even the one with like the tiniest role. I love this man and can't wait for what he has in store next.
I believe those people just didn't take the patience to continue watching. But i'm happy that at least he's aware that the people who watched it late, loved it so much. It's a masterpiece.
I loved Chicago Typewriter...I watched it quite a while ago (maybe a year?) but I still feel like crying whenever Satellite Love comes on my playlist! Something I love about Yoo Ah In is his interesting choice of roles. He seems to be really interested in all kinds of artistic expression, and regularly plays people who are artists of different kinds. He's an impressive actor!
I just found out about what's going on and I'm so sad :( he's prob my ult fav. This will be a big blow to his life and career but I hope he'll eventually get through it all and come back to acting. Sucks that he can't be in Hellbound 2 :( was really looking forward to that.
A versatile and professional actor is what I considered him.I rated his dramas/movies all in 10 stars. With the fame and popularity he achieved, he never lost his identity as a good actor and is willing to improve his skills whenever criticisms arise.I only hope that he'll remain like this throughout his whole career..More good luck ,good wishes and especially good health always. Greetings from Canada 🇨🇦😀😍😍😍
From all of his generation actors, i think yoo ah in is the best when it comes to portraying a character. When i see him in different movie, sometimes i ask myself "is that really yoo ah in?"
You know when that person is a good actor when watching him, you see the character not the actor. I remember watching the Canadian show Orphan Black about clones, I forget there is only one actress playing the clones. She was that good.
This is my first time watching an interview of him and I love how honest and well spoke he is. He is not afraid to tell his opinion or on what he feels.
I actually first knew YAI in Sungkyunkwan Scandal and got severe second lead syndrome.. He’s such a versatile actor. I was in awe watching this video. And Chicago Typewriter is one of the best dramas, people shouldn’t be sleeping on it.
I love this man being obsessed with him for god knows how long y’all do not understand he’s acting is literally top tier like I firmly believe that there is no character this man cannot portray that’s how good of an actor yoo ah in is not me out here fangirling I just had to get this out there ⚠️ if y’all have not watched Chicago Typewriter u should that drama is way too underrated for how good it is
Known him from Sungkyungkwan Scandal. Out of all his works, Chicago Typewriter is my fav. This year, Alive and Hellbound was great!!! Fighting Yoo Ah In!!! Can't wait for your next work!
I liked Chicago Typewriter a lot !! Lol i watched it coz i live in Chicago. Its a shame some didn't like it. ??? It was that type series whose characters and story stick in your mind a long time! Him and the other 2 leads were real compelling freedom fighters in it. Im so glad to hear that it was one of his favorites characters.
Same I loved Chicago typewriter and Sungkyungwan Scandal also Fashion king then for this year Hellbound and Alive were great Yoo Ah In is really talented I hope he keeps it up such a precious human
Thank you thank you thank you Swoon for showcasing Yoo Ah-in's body of work, his answers were very considered and concise. Since I first stumbled across Ah-in in Secret Affair I was taken in by his depth and thoughtfulness in portraying the character and each drama and film Ah-in's been in has left me wanting to see more of him on the screen. I wanted more time with him in Hellbound and can't wait for his next project.
The way he talks is very fascinating ad captivating. Love such a way he portrays each of his roles and he's ABSOLUTELY one of the best Korean actors. Yoo Ah In is definitely a reliable actor with his passion for acting and how he understands each assignment very well. I hope we can get to hear his perspective again in the future. Cheers to Yoo Ah In! my all the time favorite actor :)
Charismatic and amazingly talented person...I'm glad that the entertainment industry found you...don't want to say goodbye...I wanna hear your voice in dream...looking forward to many more projects of yours
yoo ahin is the best actor imo. when he's acting, rarely do i see it as yoo ahin simply playing a role. when he acts, i truly see the character at hand. he whole heartedly throws himself into each role and it's as if he is actually the person he's portraying. as if the character is a real person and we are simply taking a peak into their lives. it takes true talent to be able to so seamlessly and consistantly transition through such different roles, but he does it effortlessly every single time! i'm so happy the industry has kept from type casting him and allowed us the pleasure of witnessing him absolutely perfect every role he's given. i will never stop being a fan of yoo ahin!!
I watched Burning and Hellbound and I couldn't take my eyes off him, he has such a commanding presence. I will definitely watch his other projects as well.
"An actor who can play any kind of role" yes sir we 100% agree to that. I always love watching his interviews, he addresses some issues that are very important for viewers to understand to support an actor's p.o.v. I want to write a lot but just wanna say you're an amazing actor and a very thoughtful person. Hoping to see you one day winning Academy Awards.
I think Yoo Ah-In is a fantastic actor. I loved him in Chicago typewriter so much, he really stood out to me. So maybe it wasn't a lot of people's favorite movie but it is mine of him.
유아인 you are the best, you are a real person whom I so much admire and love. Wishing you continued love from your close friends and family and I know you will be strong throughout whatever hurdle life throws at you. You’re a champion and thank you for being YOO. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ And I know many many good happenings will come your way again.
I'm drawn to Yoo Ah In not only because he is an amazing actor with unparalleled depth and intensity but even more so now that I'm learning he is a person of substance, a decent human being.
Chicago Typewriter is a bloody masterpiece! I loved it and it is still my favorite kdrama until now. Took me a while before I got to move on. Those who haven't seen it are missing out big time. Yoo Ah In was fantastic there, portraying two characters. Definitely think he is one of the best actors of SK.
Love this interview!! Glad Netflix did an interview like this with him. He's seriously an amazing actor. And it's true about Chicago Typewriter though. Hahahah. When it came out, I just started watching k-dramas so I had no idea about it, but after knowing about Yoo Ah-in after I watched Antique, Chicago Typewriter was the one I picked to watch first among the list of dramas he starred in. And I instantly became a fan!! Shocked to hear that it didn't do well when it aired because I still keep seeing positive reviews about it.
A kind request. Please do this type of up, close and personal with other actors regularly. Its interesting to hear their perspective and journey. With Yoo Ah-In- he has analysed himself in a balanced way and as audience- we're only happy to see him in diverse roles. Look forward to his projects!
I remember the 1st film of Yoo Ah In I saw was The Throne.....and I couldn't believe my eyes. I was like "oh my God, who is that guy??!!! And how come I've never heard of him??" I had NEVER seen such wonderful acting ever since I started watching kdrama. So I searched and watched EVERYTHING he had ever done....and surely he didn't disappoint!!! I mean he NAILS every role to the T!! I love him sooooooooo much. I pray he becomes much much bigger with better projects in the future. God bless you Yoo Ah In
YOO AH-IN, every role you played is a masterpiece! You deeply inspire us through your work and we love, respect, and wish you the best in life. The joy you bring to our lives is incommensurable. Thank you so much, we send our love to you as you wished for.
Easily the most intelligent interview I've seen. He's a versatile actor who understands his craft so well and never stops honing his skill. Plus, his awkward demeanor and mysterious aura definitely makes him even more charming hehe.
Excellent actor who moves me in all of his dramas. I saw him first in Chicago Typewriter and went searching for all his dramas after that. I loved Chicago Typewriter and was surprised to learn it wasn’t very well received. I haven’t seen Hellbound yet but it’s on my viewing list. All the best in the future. Take care and stay safe💃🏽
As expected, Yoo Ah In's words is so deep that it always keeps me thinking. His personality, his views, is something that could somehow open up my mind on a lot of things. Although it is obvious now that he is a talented and experienced actor, his performance on new projects always surprises me. It is like instead of adapting to that role/character, it feels like the role/character is adapting to him. Not sure if that makes sense, but I totally have high respect on him. 👏
Well said YAI. Being a popular actor is different from being a BEST actor. You are not only a good actor. You are an excellent actor. Thank you for the excellent acting
He sonds so different in real life i think his voice in movies or drama is more deep as compare. This is 1st time im seeing his interview so idk.. But he is my favorite actor... All the best and hope he chooses good project in future too...
I love Chicago typewriter. It has a great message about people that fought to give us a better place. Without their fight we wouldn't be where we are. It is a remarkable series. Thank you!!
Thank you Swoonies for this pleasant surprise and gift. I absolutely respect and I'm completely in awe of YAI. Chicago typewriter was truly amazing! That was my first drama of YAI and I have watched everything else he's done. And yes he's the best guy to do Lee Bang Won!! Looking forward to more of his works. Fighting! 💪💪💪
Unlike many in the industry, Yoo Ah In is a REAL actor. Others think about just looking "pretty" for every role so they don't lose their pretty boy image. But Yoo Ah In is not like that. He puts a piece of himself in every role, which is sure to make you remember him forever. He's the most versatile most memorable actor in the industry.....and what I love the most about him is that there's not a Single person he works with that can Overshadow him in a movie/drama, regardless of their fame. He is a REAL actor And anyone who didn't like Chicago typewriter is blind!!!!
He is what you call an Actors actor. Am glad he already got so many awards for his diverse roles. Yes For those that didn't watch Chicago Typewriter missed out on a real interesting series. Netflix took it away in October
I saw You Ai In Shi for the first time in Chicago Typewriter.....thankyou Netflix!!....I've been searching out his work ever since. Ai In Ahh is a truly charismatic, sensitive and accomplished actor....to be rated extremely highly!!
