That was cool of Steve to oil that fan. Other hustlers would've nailed them for some bucks. Gives em a little time to consider the impending purchase at least.
York, like most offerings from other companies during that last 20 years has outsourced their components from China if not the entire unit. I live in AZ and when our 'retirement communities' like Sun City were being built in the late 50s and 60s, York was the brand most used. Some of them are STILL in operation to this day! They just don't build things like they used to, I guess...
I have 2 units in my house built in 2002, both are identical 3 Ton units made by York, before it was bought by Johnson Controls. The furnaces are also York, forced hot air. They have never been serviced since I moved here 2012, its working ice cold. I am trying to source as many parts as I can and swap it before it leaks and causes serious damage. So far I've swapped out the condenser fans, outside blades, inside furnace blowers, caps, contactors. Just seeing if I can source the evap and heat exchanger, then I keep it for another 20+ years.
Steve Love your videos man! I own my own small heating & air conditioning company in San Diego. Always love your straight forward and honest diagnosis on equipment. Keep up the good work. Hope all is well good sir!
Kick the can down the road on this one it's not worth doing anything unless the fan acts up again. Like he said that bearing might be ready to go but if it's running fine now let it ride.
I would have been willing to bet that the issue was a bad fan motor bearing and a faulty cap. Steve saves the day with a few quick squirts of bug juice! For future reference: "Funky Chicken" = bad bearing. Right on, right on! 😎👍🏼
Im not sure what happened but I thought that video nor-cal made was hilarious. Been watching both of you guys since I came into the trade in 2014. Learned a ton from both you guys
If the bearings don’t have lots of play, I clean them and re-lubricate them depending on the type of motor. A lot of motors should be cleaned and re-lubricated at least once every 5years IMo.
Glad it was low on charge. At least you got a little more money out of that job but your subscribers need more content. We hope that motor fails today! Lolol. :-)
Take a note. Steve's a good guy. Not taking advantage of the customer, who is elderly and retired. In this nobody gives a shit for anybody society, this guy actually gives a damn and I say bravo to him and shame on the scammers....'Don't wanna piss off the PETA people!' ( moving a rats nest) :D'
IMO the best way to describe a motor start capacitor is the following: It provides a different Phase of the AC Waveform to another winding of the motor. Think of phase as timing of a varying waveform. With just a single phase applied to some electric motors, they can't move without a "push" - a different AC waveform phase-shifted by the capacitor to a different winding of the motor. Since the main winding and the phase-shifted winding now have different instantaneous voltages thanks to the capacitor, the motor can now turn.
What's up with these women that don't answer their phone? They have the fancyest most up to date apple phone and don't carry it with them and never answer it! Go figure that one? Liked your temporary repair on that motor! You will be hearing back from that customer probably sooner rather than later! Like that talk with miss Molly you don't want to piss off PETA! LoL! Thanks Steve for another awesome video! You have a great recommendation from TED on anti diy channel he recommended your channel! I like both of your channels and highly recommend both of you!
I have the CZH036 18 seer unit and the outdoor fan is an ECM motor. Mine will make a similar noise, but it’s metal on metal rubbing on the coil guards. You just give it a shove on one top corner and it quiets down for a while.
Hi Steve, a little off topic but wanted your advice. I’m in neighboring CT and need to replace my boiler. I’ve heard you complain a lot about the Weil’s, what do you consider to a solid brand from your prospective? Any feedback would be appreciated. Keep up the great vids!
My Air Conditioner Just Quit on me today. The Fan Belt Went. Had Air Conditoner For One Year. It Was Brand New. I Shall Replace it with another LG Unit.
Heard on the radio about MERV 13 filters, hospital grade filters because of the china virus you would have to build a bigger cavity to use bigger or more filters to lessen restrictive air flow
There are a lot of York's systems in my area. I think the microchannel issue is only near the ocean with the salt air. Never heard of issues with the coils here in the midwest. I like them because the run nice and quiet, unless the fan motor is need oil.
It’s a good policy to call first. I showed up for one job, the last on a Friday, and my boss made me wait for an hour at somebody’s house. Finally, the lady shows up but she gets angry at me for showing up too soon and tells me to leave. BTW, there were no iPhones back then. I had a radio in the truck.
Awesome seeing you work with the customer and oiling the bearing in the fan motor. Saving the customer a LOT of money AND fixing the issue - Getting the remaining life out of the system! Many other people would replace the whole unit or at least the fan / condenser unit and pocket the commission at the expense of the customer. Two thumbs up, Steve !!!!
