John Candy. Sumer Rental(AMAZING MOVIE), Armed & Dangerous(both played in that), Who's Harry Crumb, The Great Outdoors(Awesome movie) Uncle Buck just name the greatest. John Candy was G.O.A.T.
He was way underrated. Don't forget his role in JFK as Dean Andrews. Very Best Regards, Tom Scott Author ● Speaker ● World's Leading Expert on the Corrupt U.S. Legal System _Stack the Legal Odds in Your Favor_ _Our American Injustice System_
SCTV was to comedy in this generation as the Stooges were to the early part of the last century. Very Best Regards, Tom Scott Author ● Speaker ● World's Leading Expert on the Corrupt U.S. Legal System _Stack the Legal Odds in Your Favor_ _Our American Injustice System_
Pure genius. I am a musician and If Eugene Levy cannot play the accordion, he is doing the best fake I have ever seen. 88 albums over a year and a half. lmao.
I read that he actually learned as a kid. Candy played the clarinet too. Very Best Regards, Tom Scott Author ● Speaker ● World's Leading Expert on the Corrupt U.S. Legal System _Stack the Legal Odds in Your Favor_ _Our American Injustice System_
Two of the most gifted comedic actors of our generation just having fun, entertaining, and making people laugh. One is sorely missed, the other lives on to keep a smile on our faces. God bless both of them...
The Schmenge Brothers performed at my parents wedding. Our toilet pipes still haven't recovered from the amount of cabbage roles and coffee that were served from that fateful night.
My father's 1970 Hemi powered Plymouth Road Runner had the sweetest sound ever produced by a machine, thanks to the Schmenge Brothers' 8-track Christmas Album being stuck on endless loop and max volume.
they are serious professionals. It is interesting looking at the origins of SCTV in Chicago. It tells the story of their commitment to the performance.
To commit to taking a spoof as far as it can go and using polka as a vehicle, a musical enigma in itself is brilliant. They really are playing their instruments, they are completely immersed in Lutanian culture. You can only be weirder and they go beyond that. Only Spinal Tap, A Mighty Wing and Best in Show can come close to the genius of the Schmenges. They are gods.
They are NOT playing their instruments! And neither is the band. There are several clues giving that away. Candy not having the clarinet in his mouth while you hear the clarinet. THe tuba players cheeks puffing but not in synch with the tuba notes. The accordian not plugged into anything or miked. Levy is not playing the accordian properly. He kind of shakes it in a way that is not how an accordian makes that kind of sound.
It’s not bad, we just have Jimmy Fallon doing covers of other peoples work because of lazy writing. Let’s take a chance on something original? No let’s do a cover of a pop song because it was in a Marvel movie.
It's because we are raised without propaganda a d constantly being told we're the best in the world.....guess what USA? YOUR NOT......you've devolved into an embarrassment to the world with DIAPERDONS treasonous lying diarrhea Magabowelmovement
Remember seeing this and laughing so hard. The next day when i asked friends if they had seen it most were annoyed and said it was stupid. Thats why things suck now. Too many idiots.
@@davesimms8825 I watched a few videos of John Candy playing clarinet as Yosh Schmenge, and was far as fingering is concerned, what he mostly does is alternating between G# and C or Eb and F, depending on the register. I wonder why so many people insist that John Candy did his own clarinet playing when even his daughter, who adores him to this day, says that her father could play the clarinet a little, but not that good. In the "Laughing On the Outside" biography by Knelman, it says that John Candy used to play clarinet in a high school marching band. This doesn't take much skill.
Not only did they stay in character as they ad libbed, they coordinated their movements perfectly to the music. That or they were really playing those instruments. Either way, well done.
Dave's show took so much inspiration from the old "variety" type shows which, I think even the were laughably cheesy and then took a subversive turn. The Schmenges performing is real-everyone is really playing the music-even if the act is totally fake.
The 90’s is gone my friends! What we have now is fascism by the left, millennials, no comedy and everything is offensive. Funny thing is that many countries still have comedy but not great comedy like the US.
well said. Are we cranky old all the good time are gone old timers? Look for something calm and positive to soothe our souls. If we don't see it then make it.
The great Steve Jordon. He's the current drummer for the Rolling Stones and longtime friend of the Stones. He was Letterman's drummer for the first 4 years of the show '82 - '86.
Thanks for the great laughs. I completely forgot about this. There has been so much amazing comedy out of Canada over the years. I miss John Candy, and Eugene Levy is still one of the funniest people out there. Shitt's Creek is hilarious.
When Dave suggested setting the record straight about the Lemon Twins, John and Eugene looked as though they wished Dave hadn't said that 🤣🤣🤣! Dave knew what he did!
@@MrSkokiaan shit idk why I said trumpet, I must have been thinking about the guy on the left. I did music all my life I'm well aware this is a clarinet.
Eugene and John looked so authentic playing their instruments one who is a musician would have to consider could these guys actually know how to play them? I critically watched Eugene's playing hand on this video and it is strikingly accurate to the pitch, rhythms and placement in the range of where the tones exist on the accordion to where he was either taught how to fake it to look real, Or, he really did know how to play the accordion at least for these songs! Anyway, Eugene and John were comedic geniuses! I truly miss John and what he would have continued to make had he stuck around longer.
Guys, if you MUST make it past the 10-minute mark ... cuz at 8:10 ish, the Michael Jackson bit is OMG LOL. Even when Dave or the crowd freak out laughing, they remain so understated. OMG at ~ 10:00, John Candy looks like he's gonna explode trying to keep from laughing.
I've got to comment. I grew up with the Schmenge brothers. They were a little older than me, but not too old!!! You know what I mean! 🥰 They used to come to our homes and play for us, and Papa, he would get so jealous, because Mama would just squeal and it would make Papa blush and he would try to rush the brothers, like a footsball player. But, those brothers were so funny! They would grab Papa and kiss him and hug him, so then how could Papa stay mad? He and Mama would dance between eating the cabbage rolls and coffee, and then they would kiss each other and both clap very loudly for Yosh and Stan and everyone was happy. Yes, I miss those days.
wow, my goodness man that is a great story. Reading it I felt like I was there. I hope such joyful comradery can be shared by everyone. You seem to have a good handle on it. Thanks for sharing, smile and have a good day.
