okay TWO THINGS: i just realized the beginning of the song sounds like it's time to go!! and i forgot to mention maren morris in this video smh, my bad. it feels like another HAIM feature kind of situation lol but she did sound lovely!
Just stop and really think about the fact that Taylor originally recorded this song when she did all the other songs for Fearless and this is one of the ones that did NOT make the cut back then. Taylor is going to put herself back at the top of the country charts once again with this song.
I also kind of think of the rain drying off the pavement as a metaphor, since in Fearless, she said 'there's something 'bout the way the street looks when it's just rained, there's a glow off the pavement" and she wrote that song when she still hadn't experienced love yet, but then after her heart was broken from her first relationship, she wrote You All Over Me, and used the "once the last drop of rain has dried off the pavement" as a metaphor to show that love wasn't this perfect fairytale first date like what she thought it was in Fearless, but it was also about getting her heart broken, so the 'rain on the pavement' to me symbolizes that in Fearless 'there's something 'bout the way the street looks when it's just rained, there's a glow off the pavement' she's talking about the rain on the pavement as if it's her thoughts about love, and they're all optimistic thoughts, but then in You All Over Me, 'once the last drop of rain has dried off the pavement' means that she's had her heart broken and now doesn't view love as something perfect, so the rain drying off the pavement is kind of like those thoughts leaving her mind. Once again, I might be clowning, but that's just what I got from my first listen of the song.
All the references to other Taylor songs! “Once the last drop of rain has dried off the pavement” - Reference to Fearless (There’s something bout the way the street looks when it’s just rained, there’s a glow on the pavement). Taylor also talks about rain and several other songs, specifically on the fearless album. “The way the tires turn stones on old county roads, they leave it muddy underneath, reminds me of you.” Muddy truck tires is another thing Taylor references in many songs, however this line reminds me of Tis the Damn Season specifically (Messy as the mud on your truck tires) ”Had you, got burned” this line is similar to picture to burn in the symbolism of fire and ash after a relationship, used in Red and Dress as well. “But no amount of freedom gets you clean, I’ve still got you all over me” - Another clean reference (you’re still all over me like a wine stained dress I can’t wear anymore). Also back to December (freedom ain’t nothing but missing you) “Hands in your pockets” reference to Last Kiss (I love how you walk with your hands in your pockets) “Don’t you wish you had me grin” - possible The Moment I Knew reference (baby I’m right here smile) “So I smile and I melted like a child” - London Boy (He likes my American smile like a child when our eyes meet) “Now every breath of air I breathe reminds me of you” - Breathe (I can’t breathe without you but I have to) “Watch part of myself die” - This is a stretch but maybe Death by A Thousand Cuts (Saying goodbye is death by a thousand cuts)
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE 💕💕💕 all the references you pulled out!! And now that I read them all... it’s like duh 🤦🏽♀️!! Thank you for taking the time and writing them all out!! I really loved seeing them all! 🥰
I don't know about you guys, but the first bip bip bip notes remind me of "peace" and then the chord progression from "betty".. That or Folklore is still hurting.. lol
This song sounds like Fearless and Folklore had a baby. Intro sounds like a combo of Peace and It’s Time to Go, and like Superstar when the acoustic guitar comes in. Also, can’t help but feel like she wrote Clean (1989) from drawing from this song - You All Over Me: “But no amount of freedom gets you clean, I’ve still got you all over me” Clean: “You're still all over me Like a wine-stained dress I can't wear anymore // And by morning, gone was any trace of you, I think I am finally clean”
Champagne Problems is what our angst must be to Taylor. She chooses chaos every morning and loves having us clown all over but we love her too much not to 💛
I said it once, I'll say it again, the song happened before Clean. The story makes sense Edit: oh damn, guess I'm not the only one anymore who though of it HAHAHAH
The way she says 'Grin" is exactly what a grin like that looks like Also I feel like after watching your folklore and Evermore reactions, if she had dropped this at that time, it would have destroyed you because you would have related to it so hard
im so proud of taylor for doing whats shes doing and I'm just happy for where she is in her life, thriving. also, this song is epic. #FromTheVault!! :)
THE WAY THIS SOUNDS SO DIFFERENT FROM THE ORIGINAL DEMO OF THIS SONG AND I LOVE IT OMG??? SHE MANAGED TO IMPROVE THE DEMO??? WHICH I ALREADY THOUGHT WAS AMAZING???
I think this song was from the time she dated Joe Jonas. If you're hear to Last Kiss(wich is about him) you'll hear the phrase "i love how you walk with your hands in your pockets" and here "the best and worst day of june was the one that i met you, with your hands in your pockets..." and the rain on the pavement thing. There she said " i do recall now the smell of the rain, fresh on the pavement" and here "once the last drop of rain, has dried of the pavement". And all of this cames back to "Forever and always" when she says "it rains when you're here and it rains when you're gone" and "Forever and Always" is Joe's song in Fearless. I think Rain was very important on their break up for some reason...or Taylor just uses it as a metaphor.
I can’t believe that it is a direct correlation to clean hello that’s crazy I love this song and the fact it’s the first one from the vault ever it’s a good one to have I believe.
Caitlin vibing to other Taylor Swift songs while waiting for a midnight Taylor release... if that ain't me getting in my feelings with the Fearless doc 3 hours ago, just so i could warm up.
The kaleidoscope of days which you so desperately wanted to forget yet hold on to at the same time are being added more colours to. I don't know what is better than this, me feeling like a teenager all over again in this messed up adult life, who used to beam and laugh and cry hearing country music, all thanks to Taylor Swift. ❤
I was literally singing “your Midas touch on a Chevy door” when your intro started playing. Well I guess that’s universe telling me to cry. Okay cool 💀

Not gonna lie, that Elvira Remix of Love Story is as if 2007 and 2017 Taylor had a baby while the EDM influence of 2011 watched .. and i absolutely live for that.
