1:02:22 “let’s not open more then.” No don’t worry you could loot that bugbear and the rest of the goblins. They just care that you’re looting the corpses of their dead friends. You can tell what things and containers people will be mad at you by the color of the cursor. Red means crime. Gold means good and haven’t opened yet. White is find and have already opened or is an item in the world.

Some tips and advice: Tutorial messages should all still be viewable in the tutorial tab of the journal. An Opportunity Attack/Attack of Opportunity can occur when trying to leave a creatures melee range, so an enemy can make one against you if you try to walk away from them or vice versa. Opportunity Attacks require a creature to use their Reaction to make one. All creature can make a single reaction (baring certain status conditions or use of certain items) to take specific actions, typically outside of their turn, and regaining their reaction when they start their next turn. By default your party members take their reactions automatically at the first available opportunity, but you can change it so that the game asks before using a reaction in the reaction tab of the Spellbook window (I believe the default hotkey is 'K'). The mouse can be more useful than WASD to find paths or to tell is somewhere is reachable. You can send items to your camp chest at any point by selecting the option from the right-click menu. You can also use shift-click to select a group of items, or ctrl-click to select multiple items individually. The Traveller's chest is your only permanent storage, the other containers are mainly there for flavour. When making a roll in dialogue, you should make use of the "Add Bonus" option at the bottom. Especially with Shadowheart in your party, she has the Guidance spell which adds 1d4 to your roll and is a cantrip (meaning it can be cast an unlimited number of times). Something I find useful in combat is the option to highlight all creatures, giving them a coloured outline to make them easier to see and tell what side they are on. (I think the default key is the top left keyboard key that I can never remember the name of.) If you don't plan on using your Bonus Action on a turn, using your Jump (before you run out of movement to do so) usually allows you to go a little further than normal. Looting the body of one of the friendlies is considered stealing, but looting the goblins and other enemies are fine. You can tell when looting something is considered stealing as the object or creature should have a red outline and text when highlighted by left-alt. (I believe it's a darker red than the text used to denote enemies). Others in the comments is probably going to be saying this too, but it may be a good idea to go back and thoroughly explore the crash site area before moving into the Druid Grove and/or further on.

A few (spoiler free obviously) tips: 1) Shadowheart has a cantrip called guidance, most clerics have them actually. They give you 1-4 on all checks, which is really good. Next you do a dice roll, look down and you'll see a "bonus" section. You'll be able to select guidance (and sometimes other things) from it. 2) Terrain type is super important - you can toss or shove people from high ground to make them take fall damage + lose high ground advantage, or set fire to ground covered in oil to set enemies (or yourself if you're not careful!) ablaze. 3) Small thing that didn't matter here, but I'd make sure to have people switch to their melee weapon if they have shields or if they're anywhere near melee range (namely shadowheart.) Shields give extra defense, so if anybody attacks them they get that bonus in defense (AC as it's called in dnd), and also lets your chars do attacks of opportunity which they won't be able to do if they have a ranged weapon in hand.. Switching weapons in the quickbar is free. 4) Direction of where you're facing doesn't matter for the purposes of attacks of opportunity, what provokes aoo's is if you get out of a melee fighter's melee range while you're in combat with them (there are some others but that usually comes later in the game). 5) Make sure to pay attention to the percentages of hit chances. Near the end of the goblin fight, you had a chance to hit with the crossbow for 45% chance to hit, while your firebolt had a 40% chance. There are reasons to choose the 40% option if the damage is significantly higher (expected value and all that), but in this situation you just needed to deal a tiny bit of damage to finish off the enemy, so you should have shot the gobbo with the crossbow.
@IsilionNELE
@IsilionNELE 18 дней назад
There's no need to switch to your melee weapons to benefit from the +2 AC from your shield. Even if you have your ranged weapon as the "active weapon", you'll still count as having a shield as long as it's equipped on your character sheet. The only benefit you get from switching to your melee weapons is that this way you threaten the enemies around you and you can perform attacks of opportunity, but if you're using ranged attacks you probably aren't close enough to enemies to make use of that.

Normally you can just click-to-move and your character's auto-pathing will find a place to climb up or down if one exists (if it doesn't or you can't, it will notify you) - I suspect your mod to use WASD is messing with that pathfinding AI, resulting in you having to manually climb or jump ledges. It's a recurring problem when modders try to "fix" games, but only change one thing, without considering how it impacts other game mechanics. You play how you want to, but keep in mind, that the game was designed for a point-and-click control-scheme, and WASD may significantly complicate your experience.

@@lozg8887 you use controller for everything, not just movement, it doesn't mess with camera too much like WASD, you can go out of lock to explore like you would with WASD for camera on keyboard. Basically, with WASD you still need mouse to effectively play and not cripple your exploration, while controller is just ... controller, the whole game is designed for controller OR for kbm point and click, it isn't for WASD movement + mouse for exploration. The difference is interactive clunk, because you don't know what it intractable and where, since you gotta hover over it with mouse (levers, buttons, some items) - controller has specific function for it and, again, you use one manipulator for everything. WASD movement mod is like using controller for movement only and still using mouse for interactions. Radial wheels tho, goddam that's too much for my liking.

@ernonikkola1084
@ernonikkola1084 18 дней назад
Something about Shadowheart that is not obvious (applies to some other companions as well), her firebolt spell comes from her elven heritage and therefore uses intelligence as the spellcasting modifier, and intelligence is not Shadowhearts best stat. Her other spells (cleric spells) use wisdom, so you are almost always better off using something other than firebolt.

A tip for movement in combat; Often, jumping can let you move further than your regular movement allows. Especially if you're jumping from a more raised area, since you can go further. Jump distance is tied to Strength so characters like Laezel can move especially far. The downside is that jumping uses a bonus action. But if you just need to close the distance it's super useful.

Something to maybe keep in mind: the heals you do with Shadowheart use up a spellslot every time. You can see the spellslots in her UI (they are filled out when you have them left, empty if you used them up). Using those spellslots for small heals instead of just short resting between battles to heal up will probably use up your ressources very fast since Shadowheart can't cast any spells then. Not really a big problem in the beginning, but it might be good to know for more difficult battles to come :)

Just like you hold Alt to see items, you can hold Shift to see cones of vision. If you are sneaking you can get through the cone of vision by passing a Stealth ability check (modifier is DEX +proficiency if you have it). The check's difficulty, aka DC, is the person's passive perception, which is 10+Wisdom modifier + proficiency if they have it

These are some controls and tips I found helpful: Spacebar will take all items from a chest, CTRL + Clicking an item will highlight it in the inventory, Shift + Clicking an item will highlight every item between an inventory item you have highlighted and the item you Shift + Clicked in case you want to move certain groups of items. Some spells can be cast ritually, meaning they don't consume spell slots. Common examples of these are Featherfall and Longstrider, Before a skill check some of your party members may have spells or cantrips (spells with 0 spell slot cost) that may make the check easier such as guidance. Using the hide action (C/Shift + C) will show enemy vision cones if you'd like to get up to nefarious acts.

Regarding Shadowheart, she's a cleric, which (super brief ) is like a tanky, healing mage. (They dropped the cleric class from dragon age and rolled up the abilities into mage specializations) They use Wisdom instead of Magic and can do heavier armor and weapons. I hope you think of a backstory for Wellens and share it with us. 30:45 If you find another way into the chapel and exit through the door at 33:40 you can actually get special dialogue with these guys. 34:14 If you ever feel like the dice rolls are taking too long you can press left click to skip it. 35:30 In another universe Materwelonz could have been Munselonz. 38:00 Drow are generally evil so it's not a surprise that they're afraid of you, and they are mainly seen on the surface world only when they're carrying out raids. Drow (and a few other races) live in an underground region called the Underdark. It's a dangerous place where almost everything is trying to kill you. Basically Australia. Down Underdark. Also, Lolth is a spider deity so drow are generally spider-themed.

When you are in a "melee" situation, be sure that your character who is better in close combat have his/her melee weapon at hands, even if you used ranged attack. His/her defense is better that way. One more tip, there are several type of spell. Some uses wisdom, some uses charisma and the most of them uses intelligence, you can see that when you move the cursor above it(INT,WIS,CHA). For example, SH is a cleric and she uses wisdom to cast, so she often miss her shot with firebolt, cause its an intelligence spell.

Also you can only have up to 3 additional companions in your party. Once you go over that limit the other companions will stay at camp. I already absolutely love watching you play BG3. It's so nice to have someone take the time to read through the descriptions and the tutorial hints. This is gonna be a long ride but I'm so here for this. A quick word regarding your bonus actions in fights. This early on the characters don't have many interesting options to use for bonus actions so those tend to fall by the wayside. I'd recommend either checking if you have any useful items (i.e. health potions, tinctures, etc.) or using the bonus action at the beginning of your turn to jump and thereby gain a bit of additional distance. With the latter, you only have to keep in mind that jumping uses up movement but not nearly as much as you would by walking the same distance. I'm looking very much forward to seeing your drow battling and sweet-talking her way through Faerûn.

Definitely be aware that moving the camera HIGH and away from your party to explore the environment from a bird's eye view is a normal, expected part of the gameplay, in and out of combat.
@root_path
@root_path 18 дней назад
Oh and forgot to mention another thing. Since the entire game is technically "turn-based", even when you're in exploration mode, the time is ticking in turns. Each turn equals to about 6 seconds, so when you take a potion that lasts for 10 turns while exploring, it means potion will last for 60 seconds. You can enter turn-based mode at any time while exploring. This is extremely helpful for sneaking around in stealth mode or doing things like pickpocketing people since everything freezes in turn-based mode, but only around your party meaning an NPC can technically "walk in" on you in turn-based mode so that's something to be aware of. Turn-based mode in exploration is also helpful with some events like running away from an exploding barrel since everything takes turns - you characters, enemies and the world events. And yet another small tip, when you highlight items with ALT you can interact with them by clicking the highlighted name instead of searching the item to click on it. Red text in tooltips/icons means that it's a crime like stealing or looting a friendly corpse like you accidentally did at the end of the battle.

@@htmn4712 I'm not talking about disadvantage from fighting in the dark. I'm trying to be vague to avoid spoilers for people who haven't played it yet. There are certain enemies in certain areas who gain "benefits" from being in the dark. Lighting the candles, torches and braziers around them before the combat starts makes those fights tremendously easier. Firebolt lets you do that safely and without costing resources. There are plenty of other examples: surface interactions for instance. There's a certain fight on a certain roof which is overgrown with vegetation which entangles you. You can safely burn all of that before combat if you have Firebolt. Firebolt allows you to shape the battlefield before the combat starts, that makes Firebolt THE best utility cantrip. No wonder they made it the default cantrip for High Elves.

Something you might want to know about Lae'zel and githyanki in general (no spoilers of course). Githyanki have lawful evil alignment and they are constantly at war. The strength of their army is determined by the weakest warrior, so they learn to be tough, even cruel. For them weak = dead, literally. Their youth often fight eachother to death to become part of society, to become worthy warriors. Actually, you're meeting Lae'zel when she is having worst day of her life. She was on her "rite of passage" (killing illithid is considered so), when she was captured and now she is turning into illithid herself. Even so, she wants to share with you information about the cure, and for her this is way more than "thanks" for your help. Behind all her toughness and pride you can see that she is actually terrified, but still wants to save you. This is pretty open-minded, considering her origin. Also good luck deciding who to romance, in this game it is impossible 🤣

When you are out of combat, it's better to short rest than using Shadowhearts spell slots to heal . Those spell slots are very valubale and very limited early game. With a short rest you will restore 50% of your hit points for each party member and refresh any actions that have a cooldown per short rest. If you have a Warlock in your party, they will also restore their spell slots. You can short rest twice between every long rest.

A few tips more I didn't notice anyone else mentioning: If you haven't changed your keybinds: C to hide active character, Shift-C to hide the whole party. May not seem like much but it is really important. If during a dialog your only choice is "1. Continue", save your game and reload. For whatever reason the game was unable to load the choices correctly and it gives you this as a default, and selecting it might lead to unwanted scenes/events. I don't think this happens that often anymore but it can still happen. Saving and reloading fixes it.

Oh man, you're in for a ride. I have to say, for someone who doesn't have dnd experience, you're picking up pretty quickly for a game that is heavy on tactics. Just a quick combat tip: Lae'zel has a "Rush Attack" ability that gives her a little extra movement. It's not a Lae'zel exclusive ability, it's a "weapons action", meaning, if you have someone else equip a similar type of weapon, that ability will unlock for them, IF they're proficient with that type of weapon. Every weapon has at least one special thing to it. For your quarterstaff, it's the "topple" action. Topple makes an enemy prone. Prone enemies are easier to hit.

Don't know if it was mentioned already, but when you struggle to select an enemy unit in combat, you can just click on its portrait in the action queue. In the same way you can click on the portraits of your allies or party members to perform an action on them. Ungrouping allows you to move characters independently, i.e. when you move one of them, the others don't automatically follow. Helps a lot during exploration (to avoid traps, for example) and is extremely useful for strategic positioning before important fights. Also, take your time to study the inventory menus - sorting and selection options on both sides of the search bar. Inventory management in this game is hell, and those options can be reeally useful. And lastly, no matter how many times your companions say that time is of essence, do not hurry. You can take as much time as you want and long rest as many times as you want, nothing horrible will happen. Very excited for your playthrough 😊 Like you, I was totally new to this genre when I started BG3 and my head hurt a lot during the first ten hours or so, but it was so worth it. Hope you have a lot of fun as well!

If it helps for the "back to camp" things, you can get by without the mod if you just routinely camp (and you will be forced to for healing). There's very few, not-that-important timed events that you can miss if you oversleep but generally going to camp frequently is a good idea

I don't know if Welonz knows, but the game fails to explain attack rolls. In BG3, attack rolls are like an ability check (a d20) that adds a modifier (depending on weapon, ability or spell) that challenges the enemies Armour Class or Defense Check to determine a hit or miss. Advantage (high ground, flanking, etc) is rolling two d20 dice and using the higher number, disadvantage is rolling two d20 and using the lower number.

I did this same mistake when I was playing for the first time. Probably this game will have a steep learning curve for someone who has never played DnD and Larian studio games but when you will learn more and more about game mechanics you will see how many solutions you can have in conversations/combat or just in game land traversal. I wanted to write a bit more about what and how to do things but then thought maybe it is better if you find things on your own.

@@Megawaps yes, that's why there is specific design for controller, that works well and has specific functionality for exploration and area inspection/looting. WASD movement with keyboard interactions and without camera exploration is just weird, sorry. Immersion is ... subjective at best. Like why would devs make not immersive game, right, for the genre they were making games for the past 10 years? Better make it strictly worse Inquisition experience and go against specific camera, map and exploration design, right? yeah I mean, if you personally like it and works for her, cool, that's cool. But just don't argue with design choices, whether you like them or not (which is also fine). Like a joint doesn't add ketchup on hotdogs, they never did, never meant to, and their hotdogs don't work with ketchup. It is ok you want to add ketchup tho, it is fine, it just isn't better, it is your preference against cook's idea.

Spellcaster classes like Shadowheart's can change the spells they have equipped. Be sure to give it a look next session. Shield of Faith, Guiding Bolt and Bless are all REALLY good. Beware of Concentration spells, these are spells with continuous effects, and each person can only concentrate on ONE con spell at a time. Additionally getting hit makes you roll a CON saving throw that is harder the more damage you take. If you fail it... the spell instantly ends.bYou can check if a character is concentrating on something just under their character portrair, and you can cancel concentration yourself at any time (this is useful for damage areas of effects, only one type of wizard can make them NOT hurt your allies, so be careful not to get damaged by our own spells)

Spell slots have to be used modestly, because they need short or long rests to refill. Even non-magic classes have their versions of spell slots. A fighter has "Superiority Dice" that need a short rest to refill. A monk has "Ki points" that also recharge on a short rest.

You can check the effects you have all the time if you are under any just beside your character portrait in the leftmost belt-like UI. Stuff like stepping on certain surfaces like knee deep water or listening to the sound of the blown horn at the start of the fight at thw gates all give you buffs and debuffs you can check there. Sometimes, and especially for bosses, it is INTEGRAL to right click them and check their own abilities and buffs before taking the first turn, or you might find yourself looking at a game over screen QUICK.

I love watching you experimenting and learning the game. Regarding opening locked doors, if you right click on door, there should be option to lock pick it, if you have thief tool. I think you already pick one up. Ideally you want someone with high dexterity score and slight of hand proficiency to do lock picking. Regarding Shadowheart in combat, in the early levels of the game, one of the most useful thing she can do for you is cast spell "Bless" on rest of your team, which gives them bonus to hit chance. Bless is a concentration spell, which means if she takes damage, she might lose concentration and end spell effect. So best to keep her further back and use range attacks after casting Bless.

One tip if i may... you can break almost every door but you must exmine them first to learn about the "sturdy" condition they have and what resistances/vulnerabilities they (apply to enemies too). Btw, resistance and vulnerabilities are listed together, under the vulnerabilities tab and people tend to glance instead of read and assume ALL are resistances
