Yes, we know, but the anglo-saxon vocabulary is not enough complex and articulated to have equivalent terms.

If we compare and contrast, we could find equivalent terms, for instance a Legate roughly corresponds to colonel, a tribune would a major or lieutenant colonel dependent on whether he was a broad or narrow stripe, consul is a little tricky as there isn't a modern equivalent that corresponds though it could be said they are roughly a commander in chief mixed with a field marshal.
