fantastic video! props to the amount of included memes and how well timed they are. as an old elementalist main I can confirm that the catalyst really makes you feel like you're playing (or even composing) the piano
I thought I would hate this class when they announced it and I do have some gripes with it (mainly that I just wish I could use the balls on other weapons too), but I feel that way about all specs. Catalyst is just as fun and engaging as weaver or tempest was. Absolutely love this hammer that makes my sylvari scream and wail hilariously while she slams out fireballs.
honestly it makes me happy to see all the different responses of players opinions of the catalyst. i really feel like it was the hwavy hitter we needed!
Elementalist has always just felt like i am doing 200% work for 50% payout when i can just log in to my Necromancer or Thief and wreck stuff up with 25% effort and 1000% payout. I alway love mage classes but in GW2 elementalist has never clicked for me at all mostly because i can't get into its piano playstyle.
Bit late to this video and am only really starting out my GW2 journey. I've played around with Guardian, Elementalist and Revenant at levels 1-10 just to get a feel. I think I like the mayhem that comes with elementalist, and the freedom to not just be a stand-still caster like mage is parcelled away as in so many games. I think you've sold me to stick with Ele for now!
loved the catalyst. decided to give the engineer specs a try. saw a lot of scrappers out there but I hated it. Holosmith though... Lots of fun. huge burst dmg. not as complex as Catalyst but not brain dead either and holoforge skills look really cool. plus I was able to take all my berserker gear from my power catalyst and give it to me holosmith so i didn't have to gear it. Love how easy it is to have alts in this mmo. played WoW from burning crusade till cataclysm and had one alt. been playing this for a couple months now and I have 5 toons at 80 mostly geared.
That's the beauty of Guild Wars 2! Expansion of your character into endgame doesn't feel like a massive load of work, and getting your Alts to a good place never feels like strife either!
Elementalist and catalyst noob here..... What makes Scepter Catalyst OP in PvP? I have one and I don't seem to get the hang of it, never been top damage in over 30 games. I know I am doing something wrong, but what are the rotations / skills / mechanics ? tried watching YT videos and applying all that, but I am clearly missing something. Thanks for your help
so basically the changes to the fire ability Dragons Tooth, as well as the use of the air traitline ability fresh air that allows the basic attack (1 skill in air) yo deal crazy high damage even when you sre not facing them. on top of the catalyst just being fairly strong anyway.
Everything this man said is true... Except for the other hammers, hammer spellbreaker is fun. You can be an unstopable force(literally) in pve or the incarnation of satan in pvp.
@@CaffeinatedDad I played against 5 man catalyst players with the same clan tag earlier today in an unranked stronghold game. They were extremely sweaty and competitive when it comes to oneshotting all of us. They were calling us noobs and trash talking repeatedly. Dude Im with my brother and 3 other pugs trying to do our daillies. One guy from our team rage quit. I'm an unranked player with little interest in pvp and we are getting stomped by ranked players who gloating how good the catalyst is. One commented i should stop playing my power willbender because only noobs play willbender. Because of them, i almost thought about uninstalling this game. Final score 25 vs 430 and they didnt bother taking out our lord.
JW how good is Elementalist in basically everything I know pvp and WvW they seem pretty dam good, but what about the pve side of things like open world, fractals, raiding, etc. The reason I'm asking is cause atm I'm tied between lvling Ranger or Elementalist as my second class I lvl after my Guardian, I'm f2p without the expansions so theres that on top of I'm looking be all around player pvp, pve, open world. Thanks!
TLDR with elementalist, never roll one, it is a newb trap, they get a big buff every now and again but then they get nerfed back to nothing on a whim, usually because enough loud players complain about it.
Elementalist has to work pretty hard to be as effective as others whereas the huardian has an easier time eith basically everything. The ele is complex and can compete but requires fast hands and memorization if im to be honest!
@@CaffeinatedDad thanks, complexity never really bothered me but reading what you wrote and what I've seen so far elementalist will most likely be the last profession I ever lvl or try 😆. If I have to be honest mesmer, thief, and ranger look the most fun to me along with guardian, I played mesmer awhile back and I loved it difficult yes but it was amazing and enjoyable so might make me one. Overall I'm just mostly looking at what performs best for solo players some say every class does but it's not straight forward. Anyways thanks for answering my question
Started playing cata recently and tbh I'm not a fan of the hammer. DD is what I've been running in WvW and PvP and oh boy does it slap (even though I'm bad)
Catalyst does not really do well if you're only camping two elements, as the cooldowns don't really line up at all and you'd have to auto attack a lot. If you wanna be lazy in that regard, try the simple version of Power Weaver
The art and graphics devs went all out with the EoD specs? Huh. I know this is valid for some (a few) specs, but that's a generalization I've never heard before.
@@CaffeinatedDad oh, I'm a returning adventurer here and haven't tested them yet. It's just that I've heard and read that they were generally lackluster and that they reused a lot of animations and visual effects. I've never heard much praise for the specs in regards to them looking beautiful and well-made graphically. However, from what I've seen, Virtuoso and Catalyst are indeed good examples of specs that seem to have had time put into them, I was just surprised that you said it like it's a consensus that EoD specs are particularly awesome visually when I I've read so many complaints about most of them being bland.
The catalyst is a fantastic choice but I understand! I implore everyone to try the elementalist first and to see if the attunement swapping is your thing!
Catalyst is fun...but really, hammer in general rocks right now! Which feels comedic to say. It was a joke for so long. In PvE, I'm not sure I can pick a favorite hammer bro. Spellbreaker, Untamed, Catalyst...are all fun, and frankly overpowered. Right now I'm going back and forth between power hammer Untamed (because of the massive damage), and Celestial Axe/Warhorn & Axe/Axe Untamed. Because it is virtually unkillable, while providing all the boons + Alac and doing over 30k. It's stupid, and likely can't continue.
@Caffeinated Dad Gaming Sadly. BTW, your channel is doing pretty good with the RU-vid GW2 algorithm. When I search GW2, your channel is frequently in the results.
i do play piano, i tried elementalist for around 15 levels before trying the elite spec' in the PvP halls where you have everything unlocked, really liked the weaver so i watched how to play it, i saw how to play it, i won't play it ._. i'm already the worst player with every class i play i won't be the worst elementalist lol
we'll, i've tried this elite spec' and i think i'm one of the worst elementalist that exist today lol, i can't do anything with it haha it's even worst than i had imagined i do no damage and i have 0 suvivability hahaha coming from weaver there i was also super bad but i could do some damage (even unknowingly XD) it was the last elite spec i havent tried it's time to say good bye to Gw2 and move on i suppose ^^ thank's for the videos and good game ! :D
I actually hate two handed weapons in GW2 and the Hammer for Catalyst optimizes why... The dual weapons always feel... weird? Like yeah certain ones definitely match more than others, but clearly two halves to not a complete whole... Whereas two handed weapons are usually designed better, in my opinion... Hammer on ele though is so well done, that's it's honestly offensive xD Kidding of course
Catalyst is most OP boring shit right now. PVP is actually ruined by the existence of scepter catalyst. Which does everything hammer does 100 times better
@@CaffeinatedDad yep it's really dumb I kept fighting teams with 2 scepter cata every single game and they were in discord together just one shot me. If I try to kill one he just turns into his stupid invulns and the other one spams heals on him
@@CaffeinatedDad I just started out with the Game so I wasn’t sure if this was like a real video. I am actually playing Tempest. You would consider giving Catalyst a try then?
@Grand Lapika gotcha!this is not a troll video. The Hammer Catalyst is an absolute monster right now and it has been the profession I've primarily played for nearly a year!
@@CaffeinatedDad To me it’s like. All classes are appealing. So i Play untamed. RU-vid recommends a video for Tempest and how he stomps in WvW and I am like WTF. gimme dat! So for now I ended up with Tempest and I like the flexibility kinda. :) now you stepped in with another video and I am like. Yeah. Looking solid. ;) PS: Hammer Bonk is amazing!
@Grand Lapika so this game is going to be your best friend then! It's incesibly alt friendly and as long as you own each of the expansions you can play each of the classes! And yes hammer bonk is super satisfying!
