Should be noted your medium setup can get a little more mitigation in it by doing heavy head and chest, medium gloves and boots, and light pants gets you to 22.9 weight and 1032 mitigation
As multiple people have pointed out: you're wrong. Heavy chest/helmet, medium boots/gloves, and light pants is the best combo. It also looks fine, IMO, for what that's worth.
If someone’s wondering, by looking at the tier 1 faction gear sheet, with heavy chest/helmet, medium boots/gloves and light legs you get 527,5 armor, which is better than heavy helmet/gloves/boots, med chest and light legs which gives 511,7 armor
Surprised people haven't used a ratio of weight:armor, would make finding the min-max build easier imo. Also, this guy's comment should be pinned as it's true.
@@ryanbrothers5377 u sound new to min-maxing then, cause you're just looking at the basic stuff. You'll never know if something else is optimal and could weigh 22.8 or something lower than 22.9. Definitely when it comes to endgame gear that could vary from the faction gear weight.
Also the light roll you can do a roll weapon swap that allows you to move faster than anyone who isn’t doing it. Can literally escape people or catch people doing this.
The round shield adds 2.7 to your weight. If you want to use a shield and maximize your medium equip load, use Heavy Helmet and Gloves, Medium Chest and Boots, Light Leg.
You can't even benefit from it if you're not actually holding it. If you have a shield you should have a sword and be wearing full heavy anyways, but most people still don't get that.
Dude, i made the math here, the best combination for medium is: Heavy helmet and chest, Medium glove and boots, light legs = T1 is 22,9 weight and 527,5 armor/ T4 is same weight and 1032,6
Personally I like what I put below because if you go faction gear you get better attribute upgrades for my spear/bow dex build. Helmet - Medium Chest - Medium Gloves - Heavy Pants - Heavy Boots - Medium 22.4 weight, and the protection is only 98% of the best in slot build below Helmet - Heavy Chest - Heavy Gloves - Medium Pants - Light Boots - Medium Plus I like the look of the medium chest/helmet from marauders as opposed to the heavy variants
@@jacksonbunning5576 That's impossible? If you're full light and swap out only the chest piece to medium, you're 0.3 off the cap? So how do you have enough to also wear a med helm? Wouldn't that put you 1.2 over the threshhold?
with your own spread sheet for staying in light, the best is med head and med legs and rest light for a 290.7 vs the med top and rest light for a 290.6
Legs + any of the following (head, gloves, boots) they all weigh the same and give the same sort of stats. But give slightly more armor than just swapping out the chest.

I think you missed that you can wear heavy chest+legs, medium helm, light gloves/boots and still be in medium (22.9) instead of all light with heavy chest+legs. This should outperform heavy HGB + med chest + light legs.
@@hadger501 Since helm, gloves and boots are interchangeable, I go for Heavy Chest and Boots, Medium Gloves and Helm and Light Pants. Looks quite good actually, heavy boots help mask the light legs part.
Probably worth noting that the stats and perks on your armor matter more than squeezing a small amount of armor. This only matters when optimising at endgame
Maxed Medium is Heavy Head, Chest, Medium Gloves, Feet and Light legs for maximum defence whilst staying under the threshhold. Imagine titling the video that others are doing it wrong, only to get it wrong in the exact same video. Shame.
Just wait till all these people find out you can all three of your bags equipped with the "armor weighs less" perk, and how that greatly changes what armors you can equip to stay in each class.. you're all welcome.
Not to mention armour from the first 2 - 3 ranks of the factions are a complete waste of faction tokens which can be replaced easily while looting mobs
Not sure if this is different at various levels of the game but heavy chest and legs, medium head, with light boots and gloves puts you a hair under the heavy category while fully maximizing the medium rating. I haven't seen any other combination that beats this configuration for max armor rating while still in the medium category including the one you are proposing.

I use Heavy chest, & head. Medium gloves, and boots. Light pants. Using your spreadsheet, my armor value is 1032.6 @ 22.9lbs I believe that is a higher value than your combo achieves.
@@lordapples indeed, but some of us (*cough* me *cough cough*) like having a shield on their back, because it looks cool...lol Personally, I use a sword and shield with medium armor, because I find that the extra mobility is really nice, coupled with the damage buff and decent defense.
Or just wear what you want or what you like. I do the 22.9 to stay medium myself, but this game is extremely casual compared to almost every other MMO. Wear what you like or what you think looks good.

I'm a mage and I go medium chest + rest light, just like I did in the beta and I feel like I am so much weaker than before. I'm gonna try your medium combo now for better survivability .
Didn’t even play in the beta but yea it feels practically useless running a mage type build in pvp especially with mostly light armor. Idk how tf ppl make the gauntlet and rapier builds work because I’m SUFFERING in 2v1s with one long range and one heavy. Seems so much easier in most situations to just run damn near full strength for an axe and war hammer build. But idk
@@vallano8970 with the rapier and ice gauntlet is all about maintaining your ground and distance. You're only pulling your rapier to use when your target is at half or so in HP, or for a quick cc with riposte if the target gets too close.
@@danielsterling4918 Beeing able to wear heavy armor but be in a medium category with added dmg would break the game. Just plain and simple. Eventually people reach endgame so it doesn't matter how rare it would be really.
Not a fire mage but still kinda glass cannon lol hatchet/lifestaff with min-max light armor. Not at endgame yet, but gonna respec later for full focus and slot amber gem in hatchet so it scales damage off focus. Definitely good build for pve and pvp. Hatchet is a good "oh shit" button with defy death & berserk
Are the armor to weight ratios the same for every tier? This video assumes any combo that gets as close to the weight line as possible is optimal but that is only true if weight to armor ratios are the same across armor classes and types.
@@Egolithz I did the math on the lvl 25 faction gear and all the Armor:Weight ratios varied between 29.37 to 30.08. There is such a small difference, the biggest take away is that you need to get to the highest weight as possible within your desired weight category. Which for medium armor is 22.9 as others have stated (Heavy-Head/Chest, Medium-Hands/Boots, Light-Legs). Light armor is Medium chest, rest light. Heavy armor is all heavy.
@@arnold790609 Fist of all, very good video and informative with good points overall! But on the point to max your weight cap is not correct. As an example: Every piece of armor for each given slot has the Same weight, meaning all gloves of light are 1 weight regardless of gear score. Which means that if if we would choose an armor combination that would put is in subpar weight cap for our intended bracket but still within the cap, it could still give us a higher armor/ elemental resist as an outcome. Being within you bracket is correct, but to attain the highest value out of the bracket u don't need to max out on the weight cap because not all armor pieces of any given slot has the same ratios. There are plenty of drops that has a medium chest armor as an example drop with either higher elemental resist or a higher armor value.
this is helpful but it does also depend on the weapon you're using. for example, I have a sword and shield. and the weight of my shield makes it difficult for me to stay "light"
Am with you i try many setup regards this before but i find that if u are going to play sword and shield u should add the shield wight round shield is around 2.7 and kite shield around 5,3 so as a sword player i go with heavy head " for those annyoing head shots" the rest are all medium
Lol NC. Int + con build? Or straight up STR and ice gauntlet only for CC? Trying to build something similar for PvE and make some sort of "try to reach me" build where I put down ice shower and ice tomb to do damage and slow while hammer's use is to make sure they don't get too close.
@@raystrife234 if you enchant your warhammer with a aquamarine, it will be effected by ultimate chill, doing bonus frost damage vs enemies who are chilled. If you followed the perk tree I listed, then when enemies hit you they automatically become slowed. If you put enough points in strength, your weapon will gain an extra 10% damage vs stun, slowed, and rooted enemies. All together, my set up should give you a base 50% bonus damage vs enemies trapped in your frost each time you hit them with your hammer. Using that with two gavels will deal 250% weapon damage x2. Not to mention you are removing armor off your enemy if you use armor breaker. My build will use only 2 warhammer abilities, but the sheer amount of passives and synergy will turn you into a tank buster and destroyer of anything in melee. Your only weakness is ranged attacks, however your heavy armor and constitution should help mitigate that. Not to mention that heavy armor adds extra CC and resistance to CC. My plan is to give all my armor with aquamarines so I won’t die to frost. The build is this game’s equivalent to a deathknight.
@@VossMarionette Ooo I see. So you can make Warhammer go harder on slowed and chilled targets with that aqua gem. I'm probably going the opposite route with using Int as my main stat instead of STR but still going tank. So some sort of Mage Tank build where CC is key. Thing is I'm still new to this gem thing and I hear there's gems that convert weapon damage to whatever stat you want? Still learning the ropes but I hope I also get the build I want to be viable for PvE like yours since these are rather unorthodox weapon combos lol
Full heavy tower shield pull 10+ mobs and aoe them down with hatchet berserk + against all odds passive stack cons and some str maybe even grt 50 dex for 5%crit if u use hatchet and sword
I just don’t look at the weight, I also consider the states! So I do run Light and I dont use a medium chest b/c the stats just aren’t there that I want, pluse the once’s I have found weigh way too much so I have a medium helmet.
I believe if you go Heavy HB, Light LG, skip the chest you end up with 12.9 weight with 296 Armor, but I do believe it will drag down your armor score which may affect pvp if I am remembering correct?
Yes a d use the big shield not the small round shield. That shit does not fly mid to late game. Too many squishy tanks with their shitty small shields.
I do it aswell, just that (im just bad) it doesnt offer ALOT of protection. I cant 1vX properly yet, but as soon as it becomes a 1v2 i die. Always. I got 1v5 ganked today. Twice.. that was pleasent
