im very happy with my purchase after reviewing and handling so many in the past i knew exactly what i was getting and that is what attracted me to it, with well over a 100 usa made knives i not only wanted an emerson in the collection i was looking for a knife that Emerson knives represent. its a tough usa made knife made to survive through the worst enviroments, its not trying to be pretty and as someone thats worked construction my whole life i understand the need, as far as the steel goes while i think the price is hight for the steel i personally love 154 cm the edge retention is close to s35vn, its tough its stainless and easy to sharpen and maintain in the field and i wanted the chisel grind i love chisel grinds

Erica, I really appreciate this video. I have two Emerson’s. It’s sad that RU-vid hates on such a great American company. I’m so tired of the RU-vid knife community only wanting drop shut ball bearing action. The chisel grind is fantastic. So fast to sharpen. Emerson’s are so tough and reliable. The G10 isn’t too rough. That’s just insane. Maybe too rough for yoga pants but not for jeans. Emerson knives feel so good with gloves. Better than any other knife I’ve ever used. Quote from the box when you buy an Emerson. So I worked for Emerson quite a few years ago and all I can say is that the knife community now a days just want flashy and shiny knives they can show off. But people forget that the primary use of a knife is a tool or self defense. And that’s exactly what Emerson’s are. I’ve met quite a few characters coming through the warehouse who had jobs that they couldn’t talk about or were “classified” especially a certain gentleman who was on quite a famous raid. Whether you agree or disagree with the man or his politics the knives he produces are quality. I’ve handled those knives from beginning to end and I can say a lot of care went into their design and construction. I don’t carry their stuff anymore but it’s only because I no longer have use for a hard working knife in my day to day life. But I will never get rid of them. I still have my Snubby’s, my commanders, and my CQC 13. They stay in their case now a days but I will say I still carry my sheepdog in my car because I wouldn’t trust my life anything else.

10 years ago i bought a CQC15. It was expensive in the Netherlands. 305 euros is what i paid for. Back then it was like 150 cheaper than a sebenza. And i have to say, i was a bit underwhelmed. Felt a little cheap and the lock stick was crazy. I had to use my Leatherman to close it. But.... it was easily fixed with a pencil. And the knife worked really hard for me. I demolished a big kitchen with almost only my CQC15. And it held up really really good. One big chip. But that was fixed within 15 minutes. And now, ill get the cqc15 when i have to do a shit job. It always performs. Just like my Fallkniven F1 😁
Emerson karambit has always been one of my grail knives and still is to this day. I can understand if your saying the G10 tears you pocket up but if the G10 hurts your hands then you need something to rough up your hands cause they need it apparently. Knives are tools. Go get an opinel if your hands get a booboo. Id take her as a coworker over 75% of the "men" i meet now adays.
Well said, Erica. Earnest literally invented the tactical folder. For people that don't understand that... no individual knifemaker or knife company had ever used a tanto blade on a folder in human history before fucking SEAL TEAM 6 asked him to design a blade to kill bad guys overseas. I think its great that you can essentially buy any model at any time on the website and they will drill clip holes for lefties. Back in the day you would have to buy the knife from GreedHQ or GreedCenter and ship the knife to Earnest to drill the holes.
Use it long enough and it breaks in like a pair of boots. Too many people try to take them apart immediately and grease them up out of the box I think. Use it, abuse it, love it! Side note: I sent my lefty 7 in for some tlc and I beat that thing and it had a super late lockup. I honestly didn’t care cuz it was the most solid lockup on any of my knives, and it didn’t stick or slip. It came back with a fresh stop pin and guess where the lockup was? Back to like 25% or so. Makes me believe that 90 percent of late lockup issues is not the titanium liner lock.
I couldn't agree more! and i'm gonna have to subscribe this channel. I used knives hard in the Army Infantry for 20 years. I have broken lots of knives to include the unbreakable Benchmade Adamas. My emerson was with me for my last 13 years in, and it never broke or had any issues of any sort. I have a CQC7BW and it has been in EDC rotation now including active duty time 18 years and counting it is still in rotation. And I'm Puerto Rican so I totally appreciate the fact that you have Adobo in your kitchen. I carry an Emerson because it reminds me of a Glock. Absolute fucking perfection nothing more nothing less.

I know this is an old video. But I recently got my first Emerson (Commander) and I love it, also I'm waiting for my second Emerson which is the Horseman. Thanks for sharing your opinions about Emerson brand; I'm in love with my Commander.
Great video, and I think if anybody bought an Emerson today and actually used it they'd be on board. And if they even went on his site, and see all the mods he sells himself Ti hardware, XL hardware, custom thumb disks, etc. ( I love any knife company that encourages you to take apart their knives) and the action on these knives is amazing (I wish more would use Nylotron washers) but I dunno who's calling Emerson's thick they're all .125 (same as most BMs, and thinner than PM2), CRKs are .14, Hinderers are .165, and most Medford's are .19
I have carried Emerson’s for a long time (20years plus) like you say its a tool that can take a beating, sick designs, great ergos, easy to put back a working edge and keep going…. A company I can rely on 100% and an user community that it’s exceptional. Cheers!
Gotta say I really enjoy your no-nonsense frankness. I own several CQC-7 knives from other manufacturers going back to the mid-90s. All are marked Emerson, not actually made by Emerson. Benchmade, Kershaw. The Emerson logo or the Skull. I'll look into his own company. I thought he was just a designer/engineer. I didn't know he also actually made knives. Liked and subscribed. Keep doing what you do.
I can appreciate your point of view. I've grown sick of the proliferation on RU-vid of the beautiful art piece knife talk and how many people look down on you if you can enjoy the practical features of a sub $100 knife. I'm working on moving up to quality tools like Sebenza and Emerson and I will still collect from all areas of the market... don't care what anyone else considers the best as long as I can buy and use what I like. Look at the second hand market for his knives..people will literally pay 2 to 10k for a knife without thinking twice. You can complain and trash talk all you want it will never effect his business. They are the type to complain about blade steel but don't even know how to sharpen a knife. The type who cannot even test cut paper properly, yet they collaborate with our enemy to make knives. I've owned and used a few Emersons over the years and sold them all. A love/hate relationship. I worked in construction and later a factory and used them hard. Even had one kinda "pimped" by Emerson. I like the company but I feel that they are way overpriced. For the money you can get a USA made Spyderco, Benchmade, ZT, or Hogue with better materials and finish. I had one I bought brand new out of box that had lock slip and lock failure due to the lock not being cut right. And Emerson charged me to repair their knife that had an out of box factory defect. I do think they're cool but they're stuck in the 1990's with 2023 pricing. I did enjoy them especially my pimped commander that had honest wear from cutting and prying wood. I would maybe like to try another but I have my doubts.

Cool video and I have to agree with what you say about Emerson knives. I always wondered why Emerson knives suddenly were very hard to come by, the pandemic caused many companies to close and to have an employee that was stealing from Emerson as well...damn! I am lucky to have an Emerson commander which is one of the first knives I bought when I started collecting and it will always be one of my favourite knives. I understand his philosophy about them, I feel he wanted his knives to be hard use knives so I don't get the whole fit and finish argument. I have a lot of knives that have great fit and finish - Emerson knives were never about that. I love his knives, wish I had more.
i really agree on the g10, grippy is always good for a tool and if it's too rough, it literally takes a sandpaper and 2 minutes of your life. i also used to love the rough g10 on the cold steel recon series, but due to constant crying of some tender hands they (gsm) toned it down way too much and now the knife is way too slippery and ruined in my opinion.
The ability to sharpen in multiple media is what I love most about Emerson knives. I've used all the ones he recommended in his book and just plain stropping. Great video!!!!!
I love my 3 Emersons and am looking forward to the arrival of the Mini Seax I ordered last week. All have been well built. Sure, lock stick was a thing but they all smoothed out with use. Emerson delivers what he advertises and that's all I ask from any manufacturer.
I have five Emersons and gave another one (Sheepdog) to my grandson. I love my Emerson knives, used a couple hard, removed the "Wave" feature on a couple (l don't like it on ANY knife), l reground the edge to something easier (for me) to maintain, and l put Lynch pocket clips on a couple...and l love my Emersons. In a SHTF situation l would trust my life to any one of my Emersons.
I carry an Emerson every single day and I have for years. There are so many in the knife community who bandwagon their opinions with what they have heard from others. These are the same people who fanboy over the newest “super steels” that get released every year. It’s a shame that they think so one dimensionally. They are also the same people who will drop way to much money on some hype beast/ exotic materials, adult fidget piece that looks good in their EDC pics for the gram. These knives are not made to be a mid tech. They are a different category. I 100% support the no BS approach from the emerson family. My ability to modify my knives to whatever I like and not get a cease and desist letter from the company, the range and variety in their knife history and line up, the fact that they are 100% USA made, and there excellent warranty. If it’s not for you then move on but don’t talk about things you have a ignorant bias towards like they are facts. That grippy g-10 wasn’t made for your soft hands and opinions. It is a tool, we use different tools for different jobs, in different environments. I carry a CRK Small sebenza when I workin an office environment, and either Cold Steel or Emerson when I go out in field. A100 is a hard use knife, you can beat on it and it will hold up, so to each their own. One note, my original A100 I got about 2 years ago developed lock stick, so I just took it apart , cleaned it up, added some grease, and it eventually worked out. The scales were pretty aggressive, so I just light sanded them. Make your tools work for you, and those who don’t are the ones who mostly complain.
In my Marine Corps infantry days (92-07), Emerson was coveted. I’ve had/used my CQC7 for over 25 years and it still goes to work. But, work for me is not sitting behind a desk and admiring it when I open a package or a piece of mail nor, am I cardboard box ninja. Emerson will tool along and save your life, though.
I think you made a good case. I have never been too attracted to Emersons in my knife guy journey (lol), but the truth is that one of the first knives I carried daily for years was my Kershaw Emerson CQC-4KXL. And that is probably the one knife that got me more excited about knives than any other. I actually lost it once and immediately bought another just like it because I loved it so much. But then I got into the flippy bearing action stuff and--let's be honest--EDC fixed blades, and that Kershaw Emerson kinda got relegated to the Drawer of Forgotten Blades. But it's still a great knife for what it is, a solid design for sure. So, with all the other knives I have bought at this point, I probably owe it to Ernest to pick up one of his USA made knives and try it out. Thanks for the video!
It's like this in every industry. If something sucked at one time, people expect them to suck forever. KIA and Hyundai's had shit cars back in the day. They're top notch now and still afordble. Companies regroup, they change. Don't hold something to the standards that you think until you check it out for yourself. Anyway, great video.
I'm glad you like your Emerson, they do have a certain charm to them that I like, as I carry a mini Sheep dog. I've actually used knives in the field, I'm referring to an actual battlefield in Iraq. Want to know what I used? Hultafors chisel knife, and a personal tool kit that had most of the tools a Leatherman would have on it, and more for repairing my vehicle, being in mechanized infantry. Did I use a folding knife? Yes, a 940 Benchmade, which I still have to this day. It served its' purpose to open packages and MREs.
Zero fit and finish issues with my recent A-100. Sanded the G10 because I didn't want to rip my already threadbare shorts and jeans. I also took it apart and polished the contact point between the lock and blade. It's as near a perfect folder as can be. I can't speak to other Emersons, but the A-100 is like fried gold.
I've had a MINI CQC7B that I bought at SMKW way back in the early 2000's, and it's been a go to ever since. Never had any issues with it at all, and it's been through a lot. I also got a Commander at SMKW years later, and it's also been a very solid performer. Let the haters hate, but I'd never hesitate to rely on either one of my Emersons.
My father always carried a pocket knife and always used them as tools. So I followed. Mostly Swiss Army knives and a Buck 110 that's still cutting. I picked up a 1st gen Spyderco Endurance in the 90s and then a serrated Police model. I first read about Emerson's in Marchenko's books but I never bought one. A few years ago I bought another Endura with an Emerson opener and carried used that daily. Then I got bit by the knife bug during the pandemic. People get overly opinionated about their likes and dislikes. I like tools that you can depend on. I don't mind an expensive knife if it will work well and last. I have a 940 but will look into Emerson's. Good channel.
You convinced me, I’m saving my money for a mini A100. I’ve decided to eschew fancy knives investing in tools Im not afraid of getting a couple of scratches on.
One knife that gets great appraisal is the Pro-tech Malibu and its fit and finish is bad cause the lock up is made wrong. I still love the Malibu but it just my opinion. You have a good point on this video.
You are 100% correct! My resins were some of the best I’ve ever owned and I’ve owned A LOT of knives from many different manufacturers. Adv Tactical, benchmade, ZT, Emerson, spyderco, Medford, microtec…you name it. I regret selling my Emerson Super commander the most. I’ve owned several Emerson’s and I’ve never had ANY issues. They are the best hard use knife that I’ve ever owned. I’m proud to support Emerson and I counted on mine for 7 years working EMS.

FYI: The Emerson A 100 passed the Joe X extreme knife "test." He's was recently kicked off You Tube. He stabbed a car to death and tried but failed to destroy the mighty A 100. I hope he comes back. I have a drawer full of Emerson knives and appreciate your expertise.
I just ordered an A100! I really wanted the mini but they are non existent right now. I have been on the fence for many years. This video pushed me over the edge!! Can’t wait to try it out.

The last new Emerson I bought was in 2015 and it was decent and before that my dad bought me a new cqc7b in 2000. But this one is the nicest one of them all. It feels great in the hand also. Glad I got a little push from your videos to finally pick this model up. Now it’s time to put it to work!
Great video! Just subbed. I couldn’t have said it better. I bought the CQC Mini-15 many yrs ago and have carried it ever since. Later I got a Mini Commander and love it as well. At some point I realized what it was that caused me to carry an Emerson every day; it’s the way they lock into my grip for heavy cutting. They have great profiles, different ones to pick from. But they all have that rectangular cross section that fills the hand. The profile coupled with the boxy cross section as well as the G-10....the most secure and controllable folder I’ve ever handled. They do that regardless of what grip I use. Choke your fingers up against the guard and squeeze, most controlled secure grip ever and it just adds to the hard use ability. The A-100 might not do it quite as well as there’s not that deep-cut finger guard area. I like all the other stuff you mentioned as well.
Interesting video - I have heard about Emerson and his knives but had been dissuaded from getting one of his knives because of the negative chatter. You make some very good points that are consistent with my recent research. I am going to pick up an Emerson knife very soon as I have need of a tough knife that is easy to sharpen in the field.
I would like an A100 they are pretty cool. The Minicom just does it for me tho, I love a good recurve. However, it can be tough to love the chisel grind and 154cm blade steel. But it has stood the test of time. My two are 2009 and 2013 and are running strong. Keep up the good work!!
I really don’t understand the complaints about lock stick unless it’s to the point where you can’t actually close it which I’ve never seen. I’ve all styles of locks stick from all types of makers. It’s just friction and without it they wouldn’t lock properly.
I love the simplicity of Emerson. The cqc-15 is my absolute favorite. So naturally when I seen the mini version I had to have it. Especially with his new thunderstorm finish, which might be my favorite yet on any knife. I thought it was awesome to receive the #0004 Cqc-7B & #0005 mini cqc-15 both in the Thunderstorm finish. The mini 15 is a top three knife for me. Everything about that knife is 👌🏼. The Junebug is another Emerson I love. Need to get some micarta scales for my Emersons as worn micarta is the best. The A-100 has always been in my crosshairs. 154cm is probably my favorite everyday use steel. It and cpm-154 are so under appreciated.
People who hate Emerson buy $800 Chinese folders and don't use them. People who like Emerson actually use their knives. "They're so overpriced!" - some guy who just dropped the price of a used car on Chinese knife
I know this vid is a month old but wanted to come back to let u know I appreciated your no bs, non fanboy, it is what it is ,review. I wanted an emerson yrs ago when they were pretty bad fit & finish, and owning several ZTs, it was hard to pay almost as much for by most accts, a substandard build-knife. Then started wanting one lately, I dove into viss on here and found most were 10 urs old therefore not a modern review of modern emerson. I've always been drawn to their tanto blades, and missed out on the ZT 0620? & EMERSON collab so after your review I pulled the trigger on the CQC 7 BW, and so far I love it. It's clear they are better builds now. I will say 1st one was the thunderstorm finish, I found it splotchy and the liner lock popped so loud ppl down street prob heard it lol. HOWEVER I dint mind that. I'm from the school I don't WANT IT TO UNLOCK easily. BC I like my fingers hello? 🤣🤣. So swapped it bc of splotchy finish to stonewash and this one is nearly perfect! Lock is much smoother. I'm one of those guys who don't like extended mag release buttons on hamdguns nor "memory bumps" on 1911 grip safeties bc WHY DO YOU WANT THOSE EASIER to dump mag accidentally or ready to fire foe the grip safety does it not defeat their purposes? Anyhoo I ramble but thanks for sharing your knowledge which in knives is far better than mine! And u pretty too so whats not to like!? 🤣🤣

Emerson is my favorite knife at the moment. I go back and forth to Spyderco (kinda a steel nerd) but Emerson CQC 7 is iconic! I mean Buck 110 classic levels of iconic! Emerson is the tactical knife for people that actually use their knives. The boys in uniform are the ones whose opinions matter most and while I have never served, the people I know that have carry Emerson! If you don’t like Emerson shop Civivi and stfu!
Most knife people aren't knife people. Most knife people are material people. We will never be able to make knives in the USA and keep the prices and materials close to Chinese prices. For a $250 USA made knife that is manufactured by a small company thet doesn't depend on China to hold their head above water...*cough ZT/Kershaw*...it's a damn fine knife. I want to grow my channel but I'm cool if I never have to deal with the people Jared has to deal with. I have the best 300 people on youtube and I'm cool with my tribe. The emerson kershaw collab was my first knife. It got me into knives. I had a sheepdog and I sold it for a michrotech which I also sold. I been missing my sheepdog though. I'm hunting a new one down on ebay.
I like emerson....i like the history and his designs...i mean he made the pocket clip for god sakes.....but from 2010 to 2015 some of the knives where very very poor .... im talkin poor ....the centering was off where it was touching the side of the liner scraping the coating but i didnt care but the closed retention sucked it opened in my pocket and cut my fingers and hand .....i still didnt and dont care ....but i could see people being upset lol
I’ll need to buy another. I have a horseman and a cqc10 both bought around 2010. They just haven’t held up well. What I love about about Emerson is the blade shapes. I have skinned more animals with my horseman than anything else. The renegade is available currently I may need to buy one before my next hog hunt

I just found your channel, and I have to say you are awesome! As for Emersons, I have a few, from my very well used '98 Commander, to my late model Mini Commander. Ernest Emerson is one of my favorite knife makers, and a true gentleman. I met him the first time, maybe 20 years ago. I've had a few of his customs, love them.
I despise Chinese knives and won’t buy them anymore. China is a really bad actor and shouldn’t be supported. Great video and you are 1000000000% correct about Emerson!
While not sure how much flak I will get bringing Wranglerstar into this, but in his Gerber factory visit, a quote I think about as true wisdom when it comes to knife culture is this: people worry so much over looks and hype, and even name and style for a knife, a tool. Not every knife is made as some style piece, they are made to get a job done and survive for another, and last as much as you need before maintenance. I await when I get my GEC or Sebenza and intend to beat and use em but take care of them nonethless. Emerson is next on my radar, especially the crazy story how two Navy Seals gave him schematics of a knife they wanted and he delivered (also freaked out when he found out, haha)

First off, just wanna say I like your channel, I liked this video and I have nothing but the deepest respect for you and what you are doing here. I also have nothing against Emerson Knives, the product or the company. I acknowledge they make fine, quality tools and I would even love to have one. However, as a consumer I simply cannot justify purchasing one when there are other options that simply make much better sense in terms of cost and quality. Let’s just start with the most basic thing, materials. G-10 scales, OK nothing special there. Everybody uses G-10. Now the biggie, Emerson predominantly uses 154CM in its blades. Nothing wrong with 154CM, it’s a fine steel. Certainly, way better than what you would find in the usual Buck Knives or Gerbers that you would purchase at Walmart or Target. However, look across the knife market and 154CM is typically used in products with a price point more in $150 and below range, not the $260-270 range many of the quality Emerson knives cost as only available via their webstore. Just yesterday I purchased a Spyderco Para 2 Cru-wear for $200. Benchmade's Adamas is a total badass tactical knife that would survive a nuclear blast lists for $280, but I can go to AAFES.com and buy it right now for $224 tax free, the Adamas uses Cru-wear. Cru-wear steel is 3-4 generations beyond 154CM. I don’t think you’ll find anybody in the knife community who would argue 154CM is a better material than Crue-wear. The Para 2 and the Adamas are also American made products, something you clearly find important, as do I. It makes no sense for me as a consumer to purchase something that costs 30-35 percent more, that uses significantly lesser quality materials, and older technology. I suppose if I routinely needed to change engine blocks in the Mojave Desert with nothing but my knife, the change in my pocket, and the rocks on the ground around me then the Emerson would be essential (although I think the Adamas could get the job done too), but those aren’t my requirements. Sure, Mr. Emerson is a great guy and has a great story. The Glessers and Les deAsis at Benchmade were also wonderful people making American products with American workers using modern materials and current technology. It’s just a simple valuation of the product versus the needs of the consumer. Emersons are fine tools, but they are making 1998 tools sold at 2023 prices. As long as higher quality, more modern products are available at a lower price point I can't justify purchasing an Emerson. Much as I'd like to have one, it just doesn't make sense.
I don’t purchase a knife for fidget factor. I purchase it to be a tool and to be able to depend on it when need be. You just can’t replace that charm that comes with an Emerson with fidget factor. And besides the hell is fidgeting with a knife in public. Seems like a good way to get the cops called.
I love my super slicey super scalpel knives live every other knife bro out there, but I also LOVE Emerson. Without getting too disgustingly poetic, there's something freeing about having the knife equivalent of a multitool in your pocket. Never afraid to just get shit done.
I do not get the hate Emerson gets. He is an OG knife maker. He was making these years ago for military use and such. Yeah it’s not futuristic cutting edge technology. But it is proven technology. I’m glad he isn’t making stupid crap. My CQC7 is very well made. Solid lock up. No blade play, centered, smooth, and sharp. It does what it’s supposed to do. No…. It excels. If you want a fidget toy get something else. Great damn video!! Spot on.
Great video Erica! I personally have not held a custom Emerson but I do own a ZT 0640 that was an Emerson design that I think he used to make. Most knives even if good quality need a “break in” period of time. Sometimes it’s not even the knife itself but sometimes we as a person need to spend time with it to get comfortable with action, fit and finish. I do someday want to try one but it is a good chunk of money. Keep up the good work 👍
Their knives are reliable hard working tools, made of high quality materials in the US, and they're by No mean boring. From my point of view that justifies the price point, specially if you take the great warranty into consideration. Great topic, besides do you have a new camera?
The one and only Emerson I own is the CQC7 I purchased this back in the late 80s early 90s I found the Emerson knives list it in a knife magazine internet smartphones etc$150 ATS 34 on the pocket clip it says Benchmade on the blade itself it says Emerson designs along with a logo I've never had issues with it and yes and yes one side of the liners is titanium the other side is stainless steel the g-10 is rough but hey it's a working man's knife I'm very happy with it there's only one edge the other side is flat
After your encouragement, I took a look at Emerson’s site, and the Mini Seax caught my attention the most. The CQC 7 and 17B were also appealing, but they didn’t stand out as much as the fine point and broad cutting edge of the Mini Seax. Tho, admittedly, not sure I wanna do any prying with that! 🙃 Also, while I did not listen to this while showering, I did listen to it after taking a shower and then while shaving, so close enough. 😛
