Meticulous planning and noticing a really potential addressable market opportunity is what’s needed. Far too many hasty startups today. As Thiel says, the product or service must be a x10 improvement and not incremental. This may take a while but good luck. I’m in the same boat but we’ve just got to embrace our inner frontal cortex and think. Patience is key.

From the bottom of my heart I want to say thank you Garry Tan. I have been watching you since March 2020 and your videos have been the main influence in a lot of really big decisions I have made this past year that have all been right decisions looking back. The Google hiring process is program. Their hiring process only selects candidates that are good at memorizing leetcode and algorithmic problems. While google rejects good software engineers and candidates that are innovative. Their problem is they ask the creator of Homebrew how to invert a binary tree instead of how to create a great a great package manager.
@M1911jln
@M1911jln 3 года назад
This is something that I’ve always had a problem with when it comes to many of the big tech companies. Many of them focus their interviews on your knowledge of search algorithms. I last studied search algorithms in college, more than thirty years ago. Do you know how many times I have implemented a search algorithm during my career? Zero. If I need to search a collection, I will use the language’s built in search facility, which will be faster and more bug-free than anything I can develop. So why are you testing me on something that you will never have me do? It makes no sense to me. It is to most software engineering as a karate kata is to real self defense - more performance art than anything actually useable.

One interesting outcome of the "big tech breakup", is that breaking up Google will actually be better for Google. Smaller orgs will be able to put that cash to better use. If RU-vid had $50B cash to go spend on its own, who knows what they would come up with.

Google has absolutely sucked as a search engine for awhile now. Do a search looking for real unbiased information on any subject. Unless you've used very specific criteria, the only results you'll see are commercial sites trying to sell us shit. It wasn't always like this. As an individual or a startup, you're leaner and faster compared to these big companies. However, to avoid being too slow when you're growing, you'd want to take the Amazon route by reinvesting your returns. Take calculated risk as much as possible. In an interconnected world, the right risk yields 10x the reward. Thank you Gary Tran.
@william_chidube

One thing to note is that companies led by the actual founders are more likely to reinvest in (what is essentially thier dream) innovation. That's why car companies that have been around for eons can't beat Tesla: because the head of engineering at Porsche is off home at 5 pm while Elon is just getting started. Also why Jeff is doing what he's doing. Case in point: the difference between Steve Jobs' Apple and Tim cook's.

To suggest Steve Jobs created Personal Computing is PREPOSTEROUS and really shows your juvenility. You had a good thing going for me for around 10 mins. Those who can't do teach. Suggest you talk about what you know, instead of tittle tattle. I personally lived through the PC Creation Era and Steve Jobs didn't know anything about Computing. What he knew about was stealing other people's ideas and pulling a fast one on every Apple user. Apple users are like BBC or CNN watchers ... They swallow every piece of duplicitous bstransfat cakes their fed and get shafted unnecessary dollars for missing features found cheaper elsewhere. Still, an excellent platform for perpetual debtors who don't actually understand Computing or Privacy.

Then you show up with your project and they either say "wE dOnT iNvEsT oUtSiDe tHe uS", or they think the market is too small or apparently it's so easy to repeat, that somehow noone had done it before. Sometimes it's "we don't invest in what we don't know" and many more. But if you come up with 50th uber or another wework or food delivery, for whatever reason this IS getting funded🤔🤦🏻‍♂️

I don't get why you would want to compare Google with Amazon. Amazon doesn't have profits because theirs is a low margin business. They take whatever profits they make from their cloud business and put it back in their eCommerce business. Google is a high margin software and ads company. They will organically have higher margins and more profits. Both companies operate in completely different niches.

No matter how bad inflation is, and it’s never more than 1.5 percent a year on average. 30 billion dollars and now 130 billion will literally never feel the cost of inflation. It just doesn’t matter at that point. They are literally stacking it faster than inflation could ever make a dent. They added 100 billion to that pile, yet if they had only 30 after 9 years, they’d still be in prime position. 30 billion will feel like 30 billion for the next 20 years regardless of inflation. Its not like google operates in zimbabwe
