Hallou father vis i had hed just grafe in my tank so today i cap it with sand wil my tank get better and i dont have a test kiet for vore years now end evry ting look goed
Is it a problem if I have "mulm" covering my plants? I put dried maple leaves into my 60 periodically that seem to break down an covers every thing. If I shake the hornwort, it makes a dense cloud in the water. I have a sponge filter in opposite corners and a 12" long airstone in the back center. It's been a dirt/sand tank for 3 years..
Respected Sirs, i have a fish tank with 6 japanese koi and 4 parrot fish. Please let me know which plants to put in the tank and how so that the fish tank remains clean and odourless without adding chemicals. The fish seller advised not to put in any plant as koi fish eat all the plants. India is a tropical country. We have money plant and bamboo plants here. Please advise I will be most grateful🙏🏻
father fish you are number one and obviously you will be hated by all these poison sellers who make money on people's naivety... I started following your philosophy months ago, I have 9 aquariums all without filters without water changes and they're all going great...
@@FatherFish How to know suitable light for my planted aquarium. and we can use a flat LED light for planted aquarium. We can use that light to how to use how kind of light use. Please make a video sir 🙏🏻🥺😢😢😢❤❤
My fish love the tank I'm creating using this method. I added sand over my gravel. Added plants. Added leaf litter. The fish and frog absolutely love it. Only problem is the ich I got with the fish from the "clean" pet store tank. Temperature at 86. Wish my fish a healthy recovery!
I started with 1 tank in 2022 and was a lot of work! Its 2024, I now have 4 tanks and 3 resurrection jars! No filters or water changes. Plants are happy. Thank you Father Fish.
I've kept fish for years now, most of my tank last for just a few months and a few years, this make me felt sad and anger after failing and failing, I'd tried lot's of method as test kits and stuff, Honestly it didn't worked after all. Well until I've watched Father Fish's videos about keeping fish the natural way. It worked perfectly. I've got fish tank that haven't changing water for 9 months now and still look healthy, clean, the fish are doing great, they've breed a lot and doing so well! Thank you Father Fish for showing me the right way to kept them alive, without his method, probably right now I'm stuck in the circle of anxious and stressed for keeping these wonderful creatures the wrong way!
Man, lue, ur such a badass!!! I can't thank u enough. Ive been spreading the word of father fish for 5 years now. Its working!!!! 💪💪 love my tanks see u soon... Snake plissken...
Father Fish, you are completely right. All of these fertilizers and fancy chemicals and substrates available are sold by these companies to earn money. If every fish keeper truly appreciated the NATURAL planted aquarium, these companies would be out of business. We need to spread the word so others can learn that a true planted aquarium is an ecosystem in its self.
Same with food/pharma industry but unfortunately most people like to consume poison and fall for gimmicks, which carries over to their pets. Most people and doctors still think grains are healthy and cholesterol causes heart disease which couldn't be further from the truth.
Great stuff Lou always a joy to listen to you, i've been listening to you for over 5 yrs now and i've revolutionised everything about how to keep fish safe and happy by following your instructions. I even inform all my local fish stores about you, but they have a different agenda as we all know. Plants i find are the key; i sort'a see plants like sentinals or centuries if you will, they stand overwatching everything from the dirt right up to the water column. Can't wait to have your book hopefully sometime soon. Blessings from phil emerald isle.
Best video I've seen on your channel. Period. And I've seen a LOT of your stuff. Thank you very much for sharing. Let's hope this gets it's own spot in the Library of Congress.
Fear is our friend, keeps us alive, like needing a parachute. But when we're lied to and we start fearing the wrong things and we don't know what is real, that's the problem.
10000000% agree with this episode, potential always exist but what it means is never the subject just change change change. I always say never be afraid to do enough but that’s not known until the person learns what it means. Great episode and stay happy and healthy my friend!!! 😊❤
I am one of your viewer from Malaysia, I enjoyed watching your videos and with your methods my newest Tank has matured so fast within 2 weeks all my algae eaters are well fed from the healthy green algae on my aquarium walls, I've never seen this happen so fast. Thank you Father Fish :)
I'm Soo glad i found your channel father fish. You give me soo much more confidence for my fish tank i just got a 50 gallon. I wanted to get something a little bigger. Lot of helpful tips No I can for sure do it thanks father fish I can't wait to see more videos.
I'm an old Kansas boy. All I know about fish is catching and cleaning. I actually bought my 1st aquarium to feed my cannabis plants. I freed 6 goldfish from death row at the bait shop. I love your natural method of dirt, sand and plants.
Your trustful perspective on aquariums reaches far across our entire human experience. There is a blueprint, a pattern of goodness and health that exists in each of us if we let it be, trusting and confident in the ultimate benevolence of this world.
Father Fish has a soothing voice of wisdom. I have plants in my tank: chili raboras, a betta and a snail is coming. I’m very happy. I’m trying to create the environment they’d get outside and have happy fish. As long as they’re swimming and eating, I know they’re happy.
I've got multiple tanks and decided to run a 20 gallon wide that has been running for almost 5 years now with no water changes only adding water as needed due to evaporation. Plenty of plants, about 4 inches of organic soil, and a 3 inch soil cap, with only a sponge filter. All my tanks have chili rasboras and the ones in this 20 gallon are the most vibrant in red color and by far the healthiest. The tank never smells funny. Water is always clear, and all the gouramis, shrimp, and rasboras are happy and healthy. Those the deny this process are a bit ignorant. I'm in the process of switching all of my tanks to this method. Ty for all you do. I'm excited to jump into this food web journey with you.
I love this guy. I’ve been doing what he said for years with plant and it so easy now. I do top offs with fresh water and when the plants start to doop, I do an 30% water change with filtered water. Great info Fatherfish 👍
At the beginning, I've been taught to do water changes, dump in chemicals, and test the water weekly. Since I was introduced to fatherfish, I started focusing on creating the ecosystem, substrate, and plants, and of course no more testing. My fish are healthier than ever.
My first "successful" shot at keeping an aquarium was at an alternative school I worked at. I got roped into taking care of it because the teacher that did was retiring. Man, that first year was a whirlwind. I learned a lot. Then I transferred schools, to an elementary school. My first experience w/ a tank inspired me to get one for my office in my new school. (I'm a counselor, and the tank opens up lots of conversation opportunities). I started researching "low maintenance" tanks, and it led me to you. I've had my tank up in my office for close to a year now, and only had to do 1 water change (i took on some fish from a family downsizing, and after acclimating their fish, I just dumped their water in....DON"T DO THAT)... All my fish are good, and healthy. I have 10 tetras, 5 Raspboras, 3 black mollies, 1 panda garra, a handful of shrimp and a boatload of snails. THANK YOU! My tank is THRIVING on your method. I will forever and always have natural tanks.
You are very inspiring to me, I never thought I would get an aquarium before I stumbled on this channel. My mental image was the empty tank with blue gravel and a pineapple. I am now the proud owner of a 20 gallon dirted tank with microorganisms and a few shrimp. Time to look for more inhabitants. What I do not seem to be able to figure out though is how many fish a given tank can support in this method. Of course depending on the fish, but a kind of guideline would be great as the food web needs to keep a certain balance of course.
adding fish at intervals and building nutritional supply to accomodate helps understand the growth and development of the system. The maximum is always higher than one would expect but maintenance of the nutritional foundation becomes critical.
I watched FF’s highest viewed video on Sep 2023 and I’ve since had two tanks of my own that have been so easy to care for. A total joy. We are blessed to have been exposed to Father Fish’s wisdom and experience woooohooooo!!!
Theyve created a fear in you of everything 😢 its so simple and true ... which a very few explains it with such honesty.. Sir you are so true to ur name... i will share and try spreading this video to my whole fish community pages ❤ Thankyou father fish .. We love you from 🇳🇵❤️
I really love keeping fish tanks and I used to fight with all of the tests and using gravel and the tank would always end up failing at some point, then I found you and I put dirt in the tank and now my tanks are great. Chemical tests read zero cross the board. Happy fish breeding I'm so thrilled that I conquered my fear and and did this😊 now my biggest choice is what fish to put in my tank
Thank you to father fish for helping me conquer my fears. 😊 My fish are happy and I'm happy. I'm still working on that food web. I'll get time to go hunting for that soon.
Fantastic video as always!!! It's odd when at 62 you relearn things you were taught as a child but have forgotten as life, and living goes on. Absolutely love your content F.F.!!!! 🙂
Father fish you are a legend! I will be following your methods from now on. I really love science and your way of aquarium keeping really sparks my interest, i will be studying my tank like you said!
Just found you Father Fish ❤. I tried my first dirted tank. Interesting about the yucky leaves in the water and adding that to your tank for the food web. Will be binge watching you now (stalker 👀 lol)
I don't do water tests either, it works if you understand the fundamentals FatherFish explains. I made a mistake when I set up the tank at first, learnt from it and in my second try my aquatic paradise is working, it's growing and getting established. It's such a joy to see it working. Not gonna get stressed with water tests now. There are things I don't agree with though (when he discards usage of gravel), but FatherFish is such a pleasure to watch because all the love he has for the hobby.
i am a student (22 year old) having aquarium as a hobby started with one old tank but it was getting hectic to maintain then i found FATHER FISH and I saw what wonders nature can do if left alone and untouched
I use teststripes and a special kit for nitrite from JBL. Here's why: When you start an aquarium or when you increase the number of fish, the bacteria in your tank take a little time to deal with it. So the amount of nitrites increases for maybe a few days up to two weeks. And i need these tests because during this time i put a teaspoon of salt in the tank and change 25% of the water everyday to minimize harm for the fish.
Your truely a insperion. Thanks for sharing your wisdom and your great enthusiasm.🙏🏽 I created my Aquarium a little before I found your Channel but with basicly the same idea of buildung a natural cycle. As I watched your videos you took away already alot of fears because you explained it so well what happens exactly that even a new hobbiest can fully understand. But Father Fish, I did one mistake, I just put alot of gravel and alot of plants + microbacteria and microcreatures inside. I complete forgot about the nutrient dirt... I have hope you tell me what I'm thinking: Is it building up anyways with time in the gravel? Because the plants are slowly starting driving more and I can't imagine a way to put a nutrient dirt now inside without empty the whole eco system again. I just added more and more leaf litter to help this process hopefully to speed up

The father fish method works wonders! I used to have to change the water and wash the filters weekly for my terrapins tank and fishes generally dont survive in it. Now everything just thrives, fishes and shrimps. I havent changed water in over a year! I have to keep replacing the plants though as the terrapins keep digging them up. 😂
Sir I'm from India, love you video , my father set up an aquarium in 1955 , and from my childhood i grew up with it, right now I have 500lts ecosystem aquarium as well i have my own 2 acer ecosystem forest, thank you so much sir🙏
Let's point the fact nitrites are chimicaly NO2 which is 1 nitrogen with 2 oxygen, while nitrates are NO3, it means you need 33% more oxygen to get the same amount of nitrates than nitrites, so basically a tank without enough oxygen will get nitrites more easily than nitrates. So your fish dies, but not exactly because of nitrites but because of the lack of oxygen. So if you have too much nitrates (NO3) you can't have nitrites as the presence of nitrates is a proof you have enough oxygen. Amonia is NH3, so there is a concurrence between amonia and nitrates as they both take 1 nitrogen. What happens with nitrites and nitrates is simalare to CO2 and CO, you can breath air with CO2 without imminent problems, but if your room has not enough oxygen available it will create CO, which is deadly toxic. So it's ok when you have a balance, but if a big fish dies and release tons of amonia for a long period of time it can be problematic if you don't have enough plants to restore the balance quickly. Life is balance, that's why it needs water, water dissolve everything and make the connexion between minerals possible without interacting too fast with them. So when a fish dies it basically boost the plants, and when you have more plants it's good for the fish. The main goal is having a tank large enough to make the balance more stable. That's why the first thing to tell when you have a problem with your tank is the size of it, and the amount of fish inside, as that's the "visible things of the balance", so if your tank is large enough and fish seems to be ok you don't even need to check the other chimicals as the fish behing alive is a proof the balance is ok. In fact the problem isn't to have too much of something but checking if the value is increasing or not. For example if you see your nitrates are constantly increasing that's the sign you need more plants, but you don't need tests to know that, just look at your tank! Plants aren't invisible xD! So if there are no plants, just add some plants lol.
