Yes - the rule of thumb is like temperatures together, aromatics separate, meat alone, and mushrooms alone.

How long does dehydrated vegatable last before using? How do you dehydrate for long term?
@ThePurposefulPantry
@ThePurposefulPantry 2 года назад
Vegetables are different than powders - and optimally they are good 12-18 months, though you may get longer. But if you are looking for ultra-long-term storage, go to freeze dried.
@houstonlady1
@houstonlady1 2 года назад
@@ThePurposefulPantry Thanks for answering! Freeze dried is so expensive too buy.
@ThePurposefulPantry
@ThePurposefulPantry 2 года назад
Because all the work has been done for you. But for things like meats, I'd rather invest in shelf-stability, than have meat dehydrated that won't last except in the freezer anyway.

I noticed your temp magnet says 125 for vegetables. I just got my dehydrator (Cosori) and was reading 135 F for vegetables. Confused.
@ThePurposefulPantry
@ThePurposefulPantry 2 года назад
Don't use your manual for temps :) I've already talked to Cosori about it. The recommendation by the food experts is 125F for veg and 135F for fruit. Ultimately, temps don't matter for anything other than proteins and keeping foods raw. But the higher scale you go on temp, the more vitamins you risk losing. So the testing was done for optimal drying vs time to dry. Thus my recommendations fall in line with that.

O2 absorbers are not necessary. If you want to protect it - you need no light, no air, no moisture. Mylar would be better - but optimal storage is 6-9 months. Store it whole and grind it as you need it for short term. I use that much in a month.
