i had an actual "holy fucking shit" moment when i saw that, all the times trying to look at or show someone a replay and i have to sit there and fast forward is insane, until that replay upload website was a thing atleast
I'd love to also see some kind of ui like in osu rewind where you see the window you pressed down the key and how it compares to the window the circle/slider should have been pressed but this is definitely a step in the right direction
@@chiffaonosu that's great to hear! it's totally understandable that they want to focus on the more important core parts of the game right now tho (like the pp update and how the new mod settings will affect it)
15:07 I'm happy to hear that peppy is interested in adding new things to the game here's hoping this nostalgia-addled community doesn't dissuade him from getting to do that.
after playing on the lazer client only for almost pretty much all of the 2nd half of 2023, amazing to finally see pp being enabled -- even if leaderboards have a chance to reset, just makes me hyped. i personally enjoy lazer over stable more. all the changes to lazer just makes the game overall more enjoyable to me, some aspects feel more rewarding in a sense. thank u osu team for your efforts 🎉
@@Kuzamori i say give it a shot. if you don't like it, the great thing is you can always go back to stable! imo it's worth getting used to but that's just a personal feeling; having to hit sliders more accurately feels more rewarding to me, especially when before i did everything in my power to cheese a lot of them
im both very excited and hesitant as a player who mains multiple modes, imo lazer for standard feels soooo much better than stable and i cant see any reason not to switch, but mania feels a lot worse, especially with the lack of an accessible skin.ini to change major skin elements like the positioning of the columns, the judgement line, the judgement text position, etc, theres just too much you cant do with the skin editor to make it playable for me, and importing from stable doesnt seem to always work correctly
I feel like a legacy mode toggle would be sending mixed messages, since osu!stable is still treated like the official version of osu! for now; It would be calling out people who still use stable. Once osu!lazer starts being treated as opt-out instead of opt-in, it would make more sense
Peppy wasn't lieing about the last time the database went down for critical maintenance. 1st of April, 2014. I have a video where I set an SS on a stream map posted on the 1st, and I raged because it was while bancho was down, and no score submissions were possible. Amazing he actually remembered that far back.
@@helpmepleasee5797 I've only dabbled in mania, but my impression is that 1,000,000 being the best possible score is something that mania players like. Having 320s give bonus score above 1 million was also unpopular iirc.
@@NotAghostSpeedrunsYeah. I like mania having that 1M cap, it felt weird being able to just apply DT and pass everyone who didn't use DT. I know it makes it harder, but in standard the 1M is like the master, you mastered and played perfectly. No other mod gives extra score, so DT shouldn't as well.
MFC and PFC stand for Marvelous and Perfect Full Combo respectively, it comes from DDR/Stepmania where top two judgements are called like that and also have the respective full combo types too in regards to mania, MFC is a million (all rainbow 300) and PFC is Score v1 SS respectively but other people definitely already said that so idk why i wrote this
In classic osu standard, dropping a slider end won't break your combo but you do miss out on one combo point. This means that you can finish the map without combo breaks and still not have the maximum possible combo. In this context a PFC refers to actually getting the maximum possible combo and a "normal" FC means no combo breaks.
osu lazer is the most cross platform game that I know. That is very valuable achievement in the world of windows only games. That's why I love osu lazer
"There's a lot of different meanings for 'Full Combo' in the community and apparently there's, like, a PFC and an MFC? I didn't even know MFC stands for but it was all just too much for me" got a dumb laugh out of me as I realised how many abbreviations and terms we've coined as VSRG players across different rhythm games that so many others in the rhythm game community get lost in the sauce regardless It reminded me of how PIU has different classifications for combo clear types being "All Combo (AC)" and "Full Combo (FC)" because a judgement didn't break combo but it also didn't raise combo
PIU doesn't tell you with AC or FC indicators either. On the previous mix (XX) S rank meant no misses and no/very few bads. Now, below your grade you get accolades based on your judgements. If MISS+BAD=0 then you get an "all combo" and its associated accolade.
Really don't know how to feel about the new logo though. It looks good with the O being like a hit circle and especially the small one on the website looks super clean but still... It's different now and that will def take some getting used to.
I really REALLY appreciate building such a good base for the game to grow on! We are already seeing a lot of cool things, but I can't wait to see what's in store for us in 2024!
That dot on the centre of the 'o' in the new logo is a little too disruptive from all the previous ones. i get that it's part of the font used, it just doesn't sit right with it.
I've been frustrated by the hexagon icons since they were added as they turn the silhouette of every icon using that style into the same thing, making them really confusing; the new icons completely avoided that now! They're great! I'm amazed at how much was done within just a month or two, おつかれさまです!
Re-started osu! with lazer, I'm so happy to see it reaching the stage where pp can be earned ! Thanks a lot, team, you put on some amazing work ! Still sad to see all my best scores gone T_T, but it was expected :)
After getting all these basic systems right and good, imo I think the developers should be focusing specially in making lazer easy to use and welcoming to new players. Starting the game with a tutorial on the menus and a introduction/tutorial on all the 4 modes would be really good for that
Been playing since 2017 and I am at the point where I don't farm and mainly just play multiplayer matches and what is keeping me away from lazer right now is the awful side scoreboard. I want to be able to see people's score and combo on the side while I play as it really motivates me to pick up my performance for first place. I also really miss seeing people when they die and revive, the system of just dying and staying dead is boring.
7:03 "to be honest i dont really get this one" the dev team has been making so many choices that go against mania players' wishes, and the reaction to people asking for this change just proves that they really don't understand us at all... i really dont mean to be a hater or anything, but i cant help but express my frustration at this as its been quite an issue for a bit of time now, with many things like the letter grade requirements, judgement names, score calculation (combo weighting), other score multipliers like ht, etc.
So I'm not really familiar with most parts of this game at all, but my best guess is that the main devs are mostly familiar with standard and taiko, and so they don't really have any consistent devs to help them understand mania better (and catch sorta just exists). I don't think they intentionally want to screw anyone over, though. Speaking of that change, what _is_ the reason mania should not have the dt multiplier? It's different to just increasing the scroll speed, right..?
@@squiddu To put it a bit simply, increasing the speed of a song can actually make it easier to score better accuracy in mania. It wouldn't feel right to give an advantage to players who can play fast better than being technically accurate. Scroll speed is a non-factor. You can adjust the scroll speed for readability.
@@Tribowohhh that makes sense. As a mania player who doesn’t use DT, I was also thinking ‘I also don’t get this one’. But now I do. Thanks for clarifying!
@@TribowUhh what? DT making acc easier (maybe its true for maps that are 3* and lower, but who cares the lbs are full of 1 mil scores anyway) and better players being better is unfair? How?
@@Legendary-st9of You're essentially telling me that players who can't play the original chart with good accuracy are allowed to change it to make it easier for themselves.
Just an appreciation comment for peppy he’s such a good game developer for making us all addicted to clicking the circles and interacting so incredibly much with his community!
the new logo is controversial probably because it doesn't look lowercase anymore, it just looks like small uppercase, i think the dot in the O is fine after some time of getting used to
As a casual player, I don't care much about PP. I play to get better and have fun, that's why I only play on laser. Regardless of future developments on the leaderboards, it's still nice that I will be able to track my progress in laser.
I have i3 8100 and 1060 3gb and 16gb ram, it's lagging osu! lazer in the game itself and in the menu, when scrolling through the maps, maps are installed on the ssd. Why is such a game needed?
For fc, why dont you try making the score in a new color. For example a score that had one miss would be a default color but a fc score would be a different color. White for normal gold for fc could be a nice example
I have only played Lazer due to me playing on Linux and having difficulty using wine and Lazer just being a lot easier to install. I guess I'm happy I'll be able to earn pp, but a little disappointed that my old scores won't come over (I think) and it will be done with potential a lot of resets. it almost feels like losing my 100 hours in this game.
been waiting for such an update to happen but my intel hd 2000 doesnt help me enjoy lazer that much so ig that will wait until I have a decent pc to run, hopefully by that time lazer pp will be an official thing and top players start exploiting it
14:12 Perhaps adding a "PS" (Perfect Score) between S and SS to indicate a "perfect combo" (no slider ends dropped) vs just knowing if a score is a "full combo" (possibly slider ends were dropped) would be a nice addition. Then just right-align all of the grades so that you can at a glance see if it's a D, C, B, A, or S rank, then just look to the left of the character to see what type of S rank it is {full combo: S, perfect combo: FS, perfect accuracy: SS}
if there’s ever gonna be option to make skin instafadeble in game? that would be so great if instafade skins had more than 1 color and was a lot easier to create them.
I was very skeptical about lazer since it had a lot of problems. Now most of them are gone, it's definitely an improvement and now it's so much more playable than before. But not gonna lie, I felt like stable even now has less input lag than lazer. Aim feels much snappier and responsive. You can't deny it.
I actually really like osu lazer, but there is big thing missing/flaw, changing skins. Bruh I wanna hear the most iconic click sound. Will they add this in the future?
