I have endless examples of that energy. It’s incredible how I have walked into a thrift shop where, in the middle of a sea of nothing, hangs the item I had imagined!
Yes! I can attest to the good energy of expectation. Like yourself 90% of my wardrobe is thrifted, as well as various collections. As I enter, I always say under my breath "Where is Jane's treasure for today?!" and I hold that thought/intention in my mind throughout -- so often I do find my jewel 💎
That thrifting energy is real! About 90% of my wardrobe is thrifted, but whether second hand or new, I shop with a wish list and buy only pieces I love on sight.
I totally understand about the thrifting "energy"! I've been thrifting for decades and love finding unique (and sometimes vintage) pieces and especially rehoming used books :) I think it can also help you develop a more personal style because you're less influenced by what the stores are displaying.
I have been thrifting for years. I agree with you. I have been drawn to thrift at certain times by a feeling. I will find something amazing on that day. I do consider my thrifting a hobby. I started thrifting before it was trendy.
You make 100% sense to me! I ask myself "what am I meant to find today?" Also, I always find just the perfect parking space. I say to myself "thank you Universe." I love thriving and have a 95% thrift ed wardrobe curated over decades of treasure hunting. I recently found a Brooks Brothers black woven leather belt for only $8 that my son in law absolutely loves. He shares my passion so it makes me SO happy to find what is meant for me.😘 I found your channel because the algorithm sent you to me: we are thrifting sisters, for sure.
Love your passion for thrifting. I have just started op shopping in the last 12 mths and I have found some fabulous items. About to travel overseas and I am looking forward to checking out some thrift shops in London and Paris. Fingers crossed I find some gems. 😊
I’m an avid thriftier and lately a ,once or twice a week, thrifter. I was beginning to think it had become a little too excessive but your video on why you can’t stop shopping really helped me think through my motives and decide whether or not it was a problem. Thanks so much and keep up the good work!
I had wanted a pair of white capris to wear with many of my summer tops but could not find what I was looking for in the mall stores. I walked into Goodwill about a month ago and there on a rack of exercise clothes was my pair of white capris! Someone had partially pulled the hanger out so the pants were literally sticking out of the rest of the clothes so I could not miss them. They were the perfect size and length, an elasticized waist band and POCKETS! Could not have been more perfect. This is why I love thrifting.😃
I loved that sweet memory of you and your son finding his superman Halloween costume. Believing and trust are good things. I often go into a thrift store and say to God, "Open my eyes to the things you want me to find today." And quite often, it happens like that. I have had more success in a local consignment shop that is very picky about what they buy/sell. Yes, the prices are higher, but there is better quality overall. I've also heard thrifters say that Saturday morning is the best day to frequent one of our thrift stores, so that is helpful to know. I am often looking for denim shirts for myself and my granddaughters and it's so much fun to find them and give them a little something from my treasure hunt. I always say, "If you don't look, you don't find."
Yes! I agree totally with having the right energy and mindset when you walk in. I am a thrifting queen haha. My husband thought I was crazy in the beginning but now he gets a kick out of seeing the treasures I find and then incredible deals I get. My favorite thrift shop is 30 minutes away and has recently closed it's dressing rooms :( wahhhh, so like you I wear a tank under my shirt and I will wear a pair of leggings so I can try pants on over them. Your idea of trying on one of their skirts and slipping my pants off is genius! I will do that from now on. My wardrobe is about 70 percent thrifted and I love that I'm saving garments from landfills and saving money.
I think this is my fav video you have ever done!! Love the story about the Superman costume and blind faith of a child!!!! ❤️❤️❤️ You are so right!! There is an energy to thrifting!! I had been desperately wanting a classic fair isle sweater. I’m plus size and fair isle sweaters aren’t exactly a staple where I live (it’s pretty warm most of the year). I ended up finding 2 gorgeous fair isle sweaters last winter in my size in perfect condition!!!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
For Sure I can attest to manifesting what I need at my local thrift store here in Fairbanks, AK. We only have Value Village and a Salvation Army. Quite often the shelves are very sparce and picked over, But I Always find things for myself or to resell in my little Antique booth. I have been so successful that I need to stay away from thrifting for a month or so. And I agree if I have a feeling that I need to go (other than Senior Tuesday) I should heed the call as there is usually something extra special there for me. I have found so many beautiful things since I started thrifting two years ago too. I wish I would have started sooner. One Sunday I told my husband and older son that I was going to the thrift store to pick up a fur coat - low and behold I found one ! It Happens !
I really enjoy thrifting and your reminder about not just checking in your own size is a good one as things are very frequently misplaced. I live in Philadelphia, PA, and with practice I have noticed that the Goodwill and Salvation Army I go to often have so many worn and pilled items that the better quality fabrics and items tend to stand out as I walk along so I don't necessarily have to go through each item on each rack.
Yes! I believe we are able to create reality. We don’t have big thrift stores in Brazil as you in the USA, but we surely can find good stuff if we have open mind and abilities to curate, alter, mend, upcycle. I have to control myself because lately I’m thrifting for dopamine of a great find! But I’m conscious and began to resell for an extra money. It’s my hobby !
I was invited to Albuquerque where my daughter's live for mothers day. My husband who is a non thrifter said we were meeting my daughter, he pulls into my old favorite thrift store and my daughter is already there....what a surprise! We all three go in. So my strategy is to go around and if I find a possibility it goes in the cart till I am tired of looking. Yesterday that cart was pretty full, and yes they have dressing rooms where I find my husband with a pretty full cart!!!? I need to try everything on because till you have it on you just can't tell how it will look. Many of my favorite things are to big or small or just don't look great. It is always a surprise what I end up with. My husband found some great shirts and a pair of brand new Cabelas shoes.....I think he may just have changed his mind. Daughter found some great things too. Bottom line if I walk out of a thrift store with just one item I love it is a win. I also love sewing so that means that the possibilities are even greater if something needs repair, altering or like the lime green 100% linen shirt I got some years back....perfect color in the perfect fabric but way too big......I took it apart and totally resewed it. I get so many compliments on that shirt and it is still a favorite.
I make a list of clothing items that are missing in my wardrobe. In the beginning of my thrifting journey I use to buy things because they were "kinda" what I was looking for and eventually ended up passing them on or donating them back to the thrift store but now I only buy things that are a definite WOW, if it's not perfect for me I leave it behind for some other lucky shopper. I also head straight for coats and blazers they're my passion. I have gotten some real treasures thrifting and can spend 2 hours there no problem.
Thrift shops are rare in my area. We used to have one in our town, but it closed. I found a grey cashmere and wool coat for my husband there for 10 dollars!
I have a mental list of items I am looking for to add to my wardrobe. Thrifting has enabled me to have some quality pieces that I wouldn’t have otherwise purchased. I have tried to keep my purchases under control by taking something out of my closet whenever I add something in.
I got the thrifting bug from my MIL years ago. My husband and I live an hour and 15 minutes away from Naples, Florida and love to take day trips to go thrifting there. They have an affluent community so the thrift stores are full of quality clothing. We have a lot of fun thrifting.
My bestie lives in Naples for 6 months of the year to get away from the cold in Canada and she gets some amazing items at the thrift stores there. Enjoy thrifting in Naples.
Having no change room in the thrift store is a barrier to me. I used thrift when the changing rooms were there, but once they were removed, I just couldn't do it anymore. For me, trying clothing on is a private experience, and if the store will not give my that dignity, they have lost a customer.
I love your hair longer. You didn’t ask my opinion so I should keep it to myself but you showed the sweater you are wearing in a closet reset and I think the color is not showing off your coloring. So many other sweaters look more amazing on you.
Ouch! I'm sure that stayed with you. Maybe start with a similar shape in a longer version? Slowly creep up to the bob you'd really love? Those kids don't deserve the power they hold over you. 💖
hmm. Nope. about 70% of my wardrobe is thrifted and I have found a whole lot of good stuff. perhaps your thrift stores are more magical than mine. If I go in search of one thing I go home with nothing. I have to have an open mind and really look at everything to find the good stuff.
