Fast Chaos is about teaching the why and how of using Unreal Engine to create Motion and Broadcast Design Graphics. This tutorial will teach anyone how to create a beautiful documentary map inside Unreal Engine with only a few images. Maps are staple parts of not just Documentaries but Explainer Videos, Branding, and even narrative film & TV.
This tutorial is Beginner Friendly, and if you have used After Effects you should be able to follow along. Bonus if you've used any external 3D software or Element 3D before.
For this project, you'll need this resources pack: www.dropbox.com/sh/j7jcseap8e...
And my Motion Graphics Default Project: fastchaos.gumroad.com/l/fgkfi
Make your own gradients here:

@@fastchaostv I would like to learn how to create lower thirds, text animations etc. And maybe some procedural animations for advertising stuff. I would like to use multiple render layers to combine 2d from after effects and 3d from unreal.

@fastchaostv Год назад
@@marcelh731 thanks mate :) I'll definitely see what I can do, there are some things coming in Unreal Engine itself that will make what you're talking about a lot better later this year (Project Avalanche), but there might be some underlying principles that I can do a tutorial on in the meantime...

RU-vid algorithm send me here, and I like how you describe gradient mapping without explicitly mentioning the term XD I'm a technical artist using Unreal on daily basis, and here are few corrections and suggestions from me: 13:27 In Unreal, texture coordinate UV actually starts with 0,0 at the top left, and ends with 1,1 at the bottom right. 13:24 The UV input is actually not limited to that range either, but in texture samplers, anything outside the normalized 0 to 1 value will be filled with either tiling the texture (Wrap), or stretching the very edge pixels of the texture (Clamp). This behavior is defined within the texture asset itself, and is set to Wrap by default, which for most case is the desired behavior. 15:13 Instead of a hacky method like this, you can instead make a Curve Linear Color asset, define the color in the curves, and make a Curve Atlas. Inside the Curve Atlas, set the dimension to 256x1, and add the color curve into it. This Curve Atlas thing basically allows you to use Curve Linear Color asset(s) as texture inside materials, and the iteration for the gradient map is much more instant. Good luck on your motion graphic journey with Unreal Engine! :D

Fantastic feedback, thanks mate :-) I’m always in awe of tech artists. I’ll have to try out the curve atlas in a follow up video!

@@miguelayalaconcept the more the better ofc but i'd say somewhere around 20k for 1080p is good! youtube is going to compress the video and if that video has a low bitrate it's gonna look pretty bad

@fastchaos Also I've been thinking of incorportating UE into my AE and premire worfkflow. In your opionion how well would using AE motion tracking to apply text and other animated lines and charts to a scene rendered from UE look? for example if you put the Austraila text on in AE instead of in UE?
@fastchaostv
@fastchaostv Год назад
Yeah would totally work. You can export an fbx from UE that can be brought in to AE in various ways, I’ll have to add it to the list of tuts I want to do haha

-Request/Question- I was wondering if you could do a tutorial similar to this video, but on how to create the maps and DEM files. For example, if I wanted to do a whole country, province, state, or continent map/DEM, how would I go about getting that specific info and bringing it all to life in Unreal Engine? Thanks in advance
@fastchaostv
@fastchaostv Год назад
For sure! I had a relatively good video almost ready to film and then Unreal and Google released that cesium access to their 3D tiles which kinda changed the game, I’m hoping to spend some time noodling with it this week! Stay tuned though
