Ultimately, I couldn't go through every 5 star worth building. Ultimately very few units are "unusable", but remember new players coming in do not have the reference points that we have after nearly 5 years of playing, so an easy "go to guide" is always worth having out. Ok hot take. Aside from some fringe cases where those 0.3 sp/sec (and that's 5* e2 cost, on e1 she's useless) really really matter Ptilo is just there for convenience mostly with more lenient skill taps, when a bit more precision in timings can be enough even without her. If her module will bump the talent to 0.4/0.5 that could be very huge. For now in multi target healing I've mostly used Perfumer as I e2 her pretty early and then Nightingale when I got her. The thing is you rarely need those sp gains for the whole team, just to 1 or max 2 crucial operators, and there are some ways to do it without Ptilo if you really really need it.
A few niche 5* stars to consider once your account is mature: Liskarm, an excellent defender with SP battery utility. Honeyberry, elemental medic that can be bought with red certs. Quercus, her S2 provides solid healing and SP battery, synergizes well with self damaging units and distributed damage levels. Blitz, once R6 rerun arrives, you can grab him for 4 aoe stuns per deployment or stun&gun gaming on S2. Cheers!
Liskarm is lowkey a goated sp battery. With the right positioning and aggro management she can get your eyja/silverash s3 up and running in no time. Also my favorite gimmick!
There's also April! She fits a particular niche that really enables you. Cheeky start of a map with ranged units ready to pepper your vanguards? Deploy April. She's made so many of those so easy for me to safely deploy other ops in more advantagous positions immediately. With her playing like a redeploy specialist but still being a Marksman Sniper, she still prioritizes drones, which makes her hella useful with map starts that have drones already in, or worse, those big satelite bombardment ones; April can beat those senseless without much threat at all. This is of course, assuming S2, obviously. She's helpful for safely softening up stronger enemies from range while they get closer, and can be a nice emergency deploy for enemies sneaking by. She can't target camo'd units herself, but that self camoflauge is super nice.
My personal recommendation: Leizi. Her damage output can be ridiculously high and even outperform some 6-stars under the right conditions. Though I'd say her module is mandatory: Without it, her sustained DPS is 575, while with module it can be up to 830. (That's per target, so her sustained DPS can reach up to roughly 3200.) Also, +1 for Lunacub. I found myself using her surprisingly often lately. Mainly because she can act as a permanent April (who is also a good 5-star btw).
I think there are like... 2 in the Main Theme and a couple in IS because of the amount of enemies that immediately pour out. But yea, they don't properly invalidate her you just need to use another operator first.
Flagpipe lived in all my team comps for 3 years, but ever since Ines and Cantabile came out, I bring one or two of them instead of Myrtle 95% of the time. I even use Ines instead of Myrtle on some Annihilation runs, because she can lane-hold or stall enemies inside other units' attack range.
I do think Highmore/LaPluma are still very very good, just cause the reaper archetype is a very strong base, but yeah, Executor is just stronger and Humus is nearly as good but much much cheaper.
I have some additions/honorable mentions, and I want to preface that my opinions are based on new/midgamw players and ease of play in multiple gane modes. The berrys: Insanely good, being power crept by a limited unit shouldnt lower their power in my opinion. Their healing is big, and they make elemental damage maps really playable. Additionally theyre amazing 5* units to grab in IS3 and IS4 Manticor: The perma slow is awesome in is4, and being stealth is fairly nice as well. Scene/Mayer: theyre amazing units to have to start consistency in is3. Theyre also usable to cheese maps. Nearl: Its so nice to have more than 1 guardian, and nearl is awesome. Gummy+saria can work, but Nearl gets that good healing bonus which I use a lot Firewatch: A lot of burst for a 5*, and solid utility, which helps a ton. Harmonie: Her s2 is amazing for aoe damage and slows, and she is a mystic caster that does well to burst who you want to burst. Her kit synergizes well, and honestly shes great. Astegenne/Leizi: Im a huge fan of chain casters, and these units with module can really do a lot of damage to a whole lot of maps. I big recommend one of them to be honest. Croissant: Please please please have more than one protector built lol, maps are more and more pushing tank requirements and you can definitely take croissant if you dont have hoshi or nian. Kazemaru: Amazing dollkeeper, very funny with some IS builds, and very useful to grab when you get a dead specialist card. Shes useful for eating a lot of rockets in ch10 and ch13, as well as a few othee nice areas. La plume/highmore: These two are amazing, and its odd theyre left out in the video. La plume's damage on a maxed out s2 is absurd even before you get into SSS or IS, and in those places she gets to 6* status rapidly. Tequila: 5* boss killer, hard to find at this rarity and he does great dps Firewhistle: she makes for a good dps blocker, and her damage ticks which is great for some chapters and is Why do 5* matter? Theyre more available. In a perfect account, you may not need them as much, but players dont have perfect accounts, and truly the main thing 5*s lack is boss nuking potential. If you have a surtyr, typhon, texalter, or whatever, then the rest of your team just needs to be doing their job, which 5*s and 4*s can both do. But 5*s can do with a lot more room for error/good selection. If you dont have saria, build Nearl, its worth it, and she will help you out. If you dont have passenger, build Leize or astegenne. You can wait for 6* perfect team, but I think its better to get a team built that can effectively deal with the story, IS, and events for a LOT of resources. Especially in modes like IS or SSS, having a wide variety of units is super useful, over the same 12 maxed completely out.
I think April is worth mentioning, she made a lot of stages easier for me with her S2 where you can just use her to snipe annoying enemies that would immediately wreck your vanguards upon deployment. One of my favorite picks for IS for this same reason as well
I used to spam april until i got yato, who's just better at assassinating air and land units but i getcha. For those moments where you want an assassin to stick longer, April rocks

New player here. That feeling when you realize that you like more 5* operators than their 6* counterparts (at least based on designs). Such a win. Nice video!
Good picks for sure, and lots more in the comments! I'd like to mention Texas as she's free from tutorial iirc. The extra 2 starting DP is often overlooked, but there are stages where it makes a lot of difference. Further amplified with DP cost reduction from module (making her first deploy cheaper than Myrtle) and masteries, she can get her S2 out extremely early, providing a bit of stall, while you get your bigger guys online. Plus you want her E2 anyway for that base trade post skill, if you have Exu. I have more 5* operators that I like, but they have niche uses over other even 4* options; like Elysium S2, Whisperain or Nearl.
Not to mention Texas is only outclassed by one six star… Which is Saga. Plus Texas actually has utility that no one can really replace. You can correct me once you find a cheap vanguard that can dish out AoE stun consistently.
For me it's Ashlock and Silence Without them i definitely wouldn't reach Lv 80 in 2 months in my new account I know there's Firewhistle but she have high SP cost so I prefer to use Ashlock instead Also Silence Skill 2 is very useful since you could heal so many allies with her drone

Some niche 5 stars I think are pretty decent: Firewhistle, RockRock, Firewatch, Kazemaru, and Greyy the Lightning Bearer Firewhistle provides pretty good arts aoe damage, although she can't see in the 2 tiles ahead of her she doesnt have to utilize her unique long range to snipe enemies from afar. Unlike another 5 star Fortress Defender (Ashlock) she can actually block enemies during her 2nd skill acting like an arts defender with a little more base defense thanks to her talent when blocking enemies. RockRock is a Drone caster with pure high arts damage thanks to skill 2 that overdrives her skill after a certain duration increasing her damage output greatly, though the massive downside is that she is stunned for as long as she is in the overdrived state which is up to 20 seconds. Even if RockRock herself is out of range, her class allows her drone to seek and continuously attack the last enemy she saw. Although its half the damage that she would normally do it still does good damage. I usually tend to find that whatever RockRock is shooting at during the skill is usually dead before they can become a threat. Greyy the lightning bearer, a flinger, is a really underrated operator. He can stall enemies quite well with his talent being that he has a 40 percent chance to slow on hit. On top of that, being a flinger, he strikes in aoe shockwaves twice in one attack, but with the module he strikes WITH ANOTHER INSTANCE OF DAMAGE so 3 times in total giving him a greater chance to slow enemies down. But that's not all. The module also makes it so that he deals up to 15 percent more damage to slowed enemies which is fantastic. AND TO FINISH IT OFF his 2nd skill makes him throw a ball that stays on the field for up to 12 seconds, dealing ARTS damage that CAN SLOW (40 percent chance for the ball) any enemy walking into it. He can stack this ball up to 2 times and it can be thrown onto the same spot which can create a devastating killzone for large groups of enemies. Add Qiubai skill 3 to the mix and she will destroy everything in that zone. But even on his own his crowd control ability is amazing. I've used him more often than Rosmontis which is kinda sad because she's meant to be the better Flinger as a 6 star. Though there is one 6 star flinger coming in the future that looks absolutely busted. Firewatch is a crazy deadeye sniper. Her module buffs her talent which makes her deal more damage to ranged enemies while granting her an additional SP charge for every enemy she hits and doesn't kill. Though her second skill can be charged faster thanks to the module and can nuke enemies to another dimension, its hard to use most of the times because of the bomb RNG not reliably targeting enemies. Her first skill being able to grant her invisibility and an ATT multiplier is what I find to synergize most with her module, making her a menace against elite ranged enemies and a majority of the bosses since most of them have some sort of ranged attack. However, being a deadeye sniper she targets enemies with the lowest defense so having to isolate an enemy you want Firewatch to target can be quite challenging. I found her most useful against the Emperors Blade, a boss that can instantly kill any operator within his smoke clouds and can constantly target any operator attacking them. Kazemaru, a great Dollkeeper specialist that can do aoe arts damage and summon her doll at the expense of half her hp. The thing with her doll is that sometimes the places it lands can be inconsistent, landing on an enemy or square you don't want it to. These last 6 I just use for fun Franka, Dreadnought guard. Terrible survivability but with the chance to deal true damage? Sounds like a good operator (I don't understand why she has the Survival tag). I used her on the Patriot hellstage Insider, a marksman sniper. While not as good as Kroos the Keen Glint, I like how he prioritizes ranged enemies with his 2nd skill. Puzzle, a free vanguard agent that can provide great arts damage with his 2nd skill, while not being able to generate as much dp as Cantabile I find that I can use him to deal with high def threats at the beginning of a stage quite easily and even throughout thanks to his faster redeployment speed. Kjera another drone caster, is a very RNG reliant operator with her 2nd skill able to freeze enemies making them take on more arts damage. Though having an operator rely on RNG is not inherently good, when Kjera is able to freeze an enemy it is amazing providing support for other sources of arts damage and it can do some decent stalling. For a free unit I can't complain, there are worse. (I know Gnosis exists and shreds Kjera in terms of freezing but its fun to use her from time to time.) Sesa, some silly Artillerman. I just use him for his Physical damage boost against blocked enemies and I lowkey like his 2nd skill with the attack speed debuff on enemies despite the delayed explosions. Provence, I use her skill 1 unironically. I don't know why, it just feels good when she blasts someone on 50 percent of their health even though the damage is overkill. Combine this with Andreanna and we have the most stupid synergy and I love it. It's not necessarily good but its fun.
I kinda disagree with both vids, there is a lot more good 5* by a considerable margin then the ones in Vozs video, on the other hand, the ones that are not worth investments are the more talked about outliers. Also investments by itself is another topic, as it implies playing management sim instead of tower defense. Don't take it wrong, i acknowledge the insane amount of grind needed for ONE operator. But it dosen't completely justifies leaving those not worthy in trash bin, as they can be just fun to use operators.
4:30 Interesting opinion, personaly I'd say the oposite (for my usage at least), Czerny tend to overall perform better than Asbestos in most of the cases against both physical and arts damage dealing enemies, Asbestos S2 have a pretty long SP cost that require her to take advantage of her talent, but doesn't offer any survavibility against arts, no max HP or RES increase, it's a Def buff, the thing she doesn't need in that case. And her S1 if purely deffensiv and only works against arts damage (the only time I realy found a use to it was that one old ass daily CC map with the dozen of arts drones coming from the right). IMO Czerny is less akward to use as his skill works both offensively and deffensively for both arts and physical damages and just overall cycle better. 10:10 NGL, I love lunacub's design, I built her day1, and I think I'v never been so disapointed in an operator, my favorite operator is Firewatch and I use her in almost every stages, I also like the Deadeye archetype overall, and Lunacub feel like she's just not cut for the job, she tickle the enemies you would want her to take down in priority, and her attack buff is locked behind the removal of what makes her interesting to use in the first place... Her S2 doesn't have much value IMO, she just tickle them faster with the risk of getting her ass kicked if she doesn't kill them fast enough. I think I absolutely never found a single scenario where April wasn't a straight up better option than Lunacub for the job you would use the later for. My personal recomendation would include: Firewatch (who said biased? Yes, still the best in what she does tho), April, Firewisle (I personaly prefer Ashlock but Firewisle is objectively easier to use), Melanite, Valarqvin, Wisperain, Kazemaru, Rockrock. Also build your Kafka, her S2 is fun to use, and no you're not gonna "ruin you account" because she cost 2 more SP to deploy, we fucking swim in SP in 999.9% of the content, and you most likely will never play the content where it matter.
A couple of my favourites, that I would consider well worth a build, especially with new players in mind: Texas. A Cheap to deploy 2 block vanguard, brings true AoE Arts damage on her S2 and offers pretty solid DP gain. You also get her for free, from completing missions as a new player Amiya. Required to build to E2 for the story so never a bad choice, but her S3 is also one of the few sources of True Damage in the game. Always worth an investment. Cliffheart. Also a free operator for new players from logging in, is a solid upgrade over the 4 star equivalent and another of the fewTrue Damage dealing units in the game. Also pretty excited for Bassline, who is coming in a few days! He will be only the second unit in the game, and the first below 6 Stars, to offer RES buff to allies. :)
While I don't agree with some of your points, I do agree that these 5 stars are worth your materials...not just that, I also have most of these ops built. The only one I have not E2'd yet are Blacknight, Asbestos and Shamare
Prefer silence instead of warfarin.. i used zima (pre flametail module) and still using it when theres a rush.. Platinum has the best dph for single target sniper (more reliable than noskill applepie) Franka, for def ignore.. And lastly amiya.. you really cant live without her
Okay let me add my personal fave. : Tequila. He is available rn in the side story and is a liberator. He has really good damage with s2 and can actually be kinda tanky as they are a liberator. only downside is they cant block when skill is not active,
Personal take is that overall, 5 stars are a bit in a weird spot. Firstly 4 stars are the best budget versions and most roles can be found in the 4 stars and overall 4 stars are very good. 5 stars are usually in my eyes 4 stars version 1.5, meaning their very similar but have a bit better skills and stats but not a major upgrade while 6 stars can break the game with some of their stuff and are often in a league of their own. So my take is usually to compare the 5 stars to 4 stars, like do I have a similar unit thats a bit weaker but cheaper to build? Or do I already have the 6 star version. Like for instance among the healing defenders Nearl is great and a great addition to most teams. However, Saria is a direct upgrade, a big one at that, so if you have Saria you don't really need Nearl except for some specific stages where 2 healing defenders might be great. But even so the 4 star Gummy in my opinion is a better choice in most cases since she's cheaper, she has more hp so she can survive high dmg hits more reliably in most cases, she also has a small chance to stun on all hits and her 2nd skill makes her much tankier for a short while but her 1st skill while healing less will always heal instead of only targets under 50% hp, which can be good and bad, mostly good. But overall the only thing Nearl has going is that she heals better then Gummy but her healing can be both less or more reliable and she has higher def but less hp. So again Nearl is a great unit but Saria is a direct upgrade while Gummy is very similar but also a bit different which makes her stand out more compared to Nearl. But yeah 5 stars I've built and have used a lot. Lappland, Meteorite, Ptil, Elysium, FEater, GreyThroat, P Red, La Pluma, Plat, Amiya, Specter, Astesia, Nearl, Blue Poison, Silence, Texas, Istina, Warfarin, Manticore. Shamare. Frankly for the longest time I only had 5 star and 3 star healers for some reason, so Ptil, Silence and later Warfarin were my go to healers for the longest time. So while for instance Silence has dropped a lot on usage she can be quite clutch for some stages by being a remote healer.
The next CN Event is Chapter 14 and then probably an AEgir storyline, which will probably give us Ulpianus (long live the A.H.) and then we will get the Lappalter event, at least that's what I am expecting.
5 stars that you forgot: Valarqvin - free "true damage" source Proviso - good slower and money printer Toddifons - big dmg vs Sarkaz, while Sarkaz enemies are everywhere. Firewatch - better Lunacub imo
I can only partially agree. Lappy def wants e2 s2 m3 cause it increases her dmg and duration while decreasing her sp requirement. the e2 alone increases the duration of the silence which is basically 1 out of 3 reason you would take her over another guard. La pluma: pretty good lane holder. Shamare: insanely good debuffer for high phy def/atk enemies. Blue Poison: pretty good consistent multi target dmg. Nearl: can replace a healer. Liskarm: is pretty solid vs arts with e2 and of course a sp printer. Firewatch: niche and needs investment so e2 s2 m1 and module preferred but def pretty fun to play and surprisingly good. Leonhardt: imo best aoe caster. Bibeak: stuns lots of it if she can attack stuff. Mulberry: better medic than honeyberry imo but only very slightly. Proviso/Tequila: cause e2 base skill improvement to get more LMD.
Surprised no one's mentioned Blue Poison yet. I get that she's kind of been power-crept a bit but back in the day she used to be known as a "secret 6 star" because she preformed as good or better than many 6 stars. She's still perfectly solid for what she does.
@@ak_oneoneone Both are decent, I find her S1 to be more consistent on average. S2 is nice for when you know you're going to be dealing with a large amount of enemies. Because BP is an older 5 star a lot of people overlook her due to the 6 stars powercreeping other 6 stars. But in stuff like IS or stages with restrictions on who/what you can bring she's still solid enough. Her passive of dealing arts damage every second on those she hits is also nice. it's 75 at E2 Pot1, for perspective, Thorns' arts DPS from his talent is 125 at E2 Pot 1. I get that it's not an absurd amount of extra damage but when the big thing about this video (and the other video in the collaboration) is "5 stars generally aren't worth upgrading at all and it's a mistake to invest anything into them unless it's these specific ones" and it's targeted towards newer players I'd say if you get BP and invest in her as a newer player you wouldn't be disappointed. As it is I still use her occasionally depending on the scenario.
@@vosz5872 To be fair, so are most non-6 star operators, 3 and 4 stars included, aside from Myrtle and a few others. Hell, at this point many 6 stars are replaceable depending on the content. BP was just the first one to pop into my head and I feel is still pretty solid and worth building if a newer player gets her. I don't like the thought process of telling newer players to hold out until they have a good 6 star or solely focusing on 3 and 4 stars when 5 stars can be viable and are cheaper and easier than 6 stars both to obtain and strengthen. I don't think players should be dumping everything solely into a 5 star unit, nor do I think they should be dumping anything into a single unit, especially when starting out. Having a variety of E1s is more valuable most times than having one E2. The reason I'm being a bit of a hard-ass about this is I've seen this trend going around of people saying 5 stars aren't worth it to invest in at all (aside from a few exceptions). They almost all tend to be targeted towards newer players and I've seen a few newer players feel like they should quit the game because they don't have certain units to put resources into and are avoiding 5 stars because of content like this and Dark's. I get that clickbait or inflammatory titles and remarks get views and therefore spread your message more frequently but I feel that the concept of "never invest into a 5 star unless it's one of these" is more harmful to a player's enjoyment of the game than it is helpful.
Don't build any 5 stars, just magically pull all the meta 6 stars from your free to play 3/4 star only and free unit account, then struggle to build the expensive ops Silence - Great Healer Firewhistle - Best Damage girl Nearl - for that Mace D Texas - Annihilation Missions 2nd best girl for DP Minimalist - For those of us who keep missing those single target Core Casters
This is a pretty bleh spread. Specter,Blacknight,kroos,ptilo/shamare and I guess warf are the only actual high tier 5 stars on this list. Where are Tequila and La pluma? Firewatch,Elysium,Rockrock,Greyy, Firewhistle and a few others also outrank stuff easily lol.
i cringe so hard when someone say if you have x operator you will have permanent account damage, bitch i reroll 94 time to get siege and she's my only dp generator for every stage even until now and yet i don't have any problem clearing a stage, so yeah if you have character you like just get and build them unless you are meta fan, your meta operator will come to you one way or another anyway lol
That's defend on your gameplay I have Myrtle, Elysium, Saga, and Texas But I build Scavenger and Saileach instead And still haven't build those four because I like to use Scavenger as lane holder in early and Saileach to heal her with skill 2
Lol New players discussing that stuff will never be not funny to me. Here are some actual good 5 stars: Beeswax, Spectre, Warfarin, Quercus, Pramanix and Shamare, Nearl, Liskarm, Czerny, Heavyrain, Elysium. Those are 5 stars that are not outclassed by 6 stars, because they bring their own thing to the table or are simply better because of the lower cost. Also, I had to laugh at all the gasing up of Cantabile, but zero mention of Puzzle, that is often better and a free operator. xD

I'm actually surprised seeing Blacknight recommend, I thought people only built her out of favoritism or sleep builds, especially now that we have Muelsyse for the architype. Between her, Vigil & Beanstalk, I typically default to Beanstalk, mainly for how many areas her S2 can cover for. Also shocked at the lack of Silence recommendation, considering how versatile her S2 is and what not. Honestly, this video made me realize just how many of my 5* units I use compared to my 6* ones, like Istina for instance. Feel like the "Berry" medics should also be highlighted, same with people mentioning La Pluma. Would say Scene too, but that's harder to say if she's still only obtainable through the CC# shop.
