Not sure which way it was intended to be solved, but there is a quick way to do the end of the puzzle, available from 40:00. Look at the 2-cell renban in r6. It sees 1235 in the row, it sees 9 in both columns, so it can only be 67 or 78. That resolves the 578 triple in r1 and the rest is pretty straightforward. The only other slightly fiddly bit, also available at the same time, is to see the box 7 renban must have a 3 on it, which gives you an obvious x-wing and puts 3 in r9c9. Was a very fun puzzle to do, particularly the entire yin-yang section.
Fog of war puzzles are always fun to watch. You take great care to not just guess and provide a very logical reason of why something is either correct or wrong.
I love that everyone is supporting your comment , by 22 at this moment. 😁 Yes fog of war puzzles are a joyous treat to have Simon do them ...as he said recently..I can see clearly now..the fog had lifted.
I'm interested in the fog puzzle the most, not only because of the ruleset's simplicity, but also the fact it has three starting points. It seems to me you'll be jumping around, and it's always nice to see you slowly inch closer and closer to connecting them. It's also too hard for me, and I don't want to cheat just to see it solved.
Fog of war deconstruction sounds intriguing. Also those for of war puzzles don't seem to be extremely difficult, so I believe this choice also decreases the chances of Simon's biggest fear coming true =)
You know me, I want you to do the puzzles that you most enjoy! But if you are giving me a choice for tomorrow, I would choose the non-fog of war puzzle just because, I think the non-fog of war puzzles are more interesting. Today’s puzzle and video were fantastic. Thanks so much, Simon.
I have to say my preference would be for Fog of War Embark. Simon's childlike delight every time he reveals a bit more of a fog puzzle both entertains and lifts my mood.
My vote is to see the fog-of-war Embark puzzle. It's a combo we haven't seen yet, and it seems like I can wrap my brain around the rules better once it's in Sven's software.

You could do one each! They both look very interesting. That said: massive fog, please! I enjoy the intricate, piece-by-piece nature of these puzzles; and I also enjoy the glee on Simon's face when he reveals more of the grid (and, to be honest, the disappointment when there's nothing useful there 😆).
I’ve really enjoyed watching the fog of war puzzles be done and attempting them myself. They always feel like they serve as a cool way to work on different methods of deducing solutions.
Oh Simon, definitely the fog of war puzzle! The joy when you find treasure that was hidden and conversely your disappointment when nothing of note becomes visible are such precious moments. Metaphorically, the lifting of the fog parallels CtC's role as the cleanser of troubled minds with an hour or so of the singing universe.
0:02 I’d love to see the fog puzzle! My husband and I watch every evening and tomorrow is date night for us. A fog of war puzzle would be perfect for a snuggle on the couch! 💜
I like the new garish green color you’ve recently been using, but it doesn’t have enough contrast with the dark grey to be used in Yin Yang like this. Please use a lighter color for “unshaded” next time.
I love ying yang puzzles and this one was no exception. I struggled a bit with the break in, but managed to solve in 55min which isn’t too bad for me (compared to the video length).
I really like both puzzles, but I enjoyed the fog of war puzzles the most, as it is so satisfying and it feels very rewarding everytime you clear a bit of the fog and it is always a surprise what will appear next. Just this feeling of rewardness (is that a real English word?) is enough for me to choose for the fog of war.
As nice as that shade of green is, it really doesn't work well with the mid-grey, they are of very similar intensity and so it isn't easy to tell them apart. Regardless of where they are on the colour spectrum, it's always better to use a dark colour and a light colour to ensure that you have good contrast between them. But apart from that, great puzzle and great solve 👍🏻👍🏻. Very satisfying to quickly realise that the perimeter had only one shaded cell, in one of two places - as you say, lots of beautiful logic throughout the puzzle.
Only recently discovered fog of war puzzles, and I'm finding out I love them. I find that up to a point I can do it on my own and then I can watch you for a bit and due to the tight logic that comes with fog of war, you help give me the inspiration I need to keep going on the puzzle.
I haven't have time to finish the "Embark" puzzle - but I can tell you that it has some really cool logic and uses the clues really well, and I broke well into it before getting distracted by other things - so I don't know how it finishes, but it has promise as an excellent hybrid puzzle. I haven't tried the other one and would love to have a go at that before a solve. [sometimes ratings on hard hybrid puzzles get distorted because some solvers don't quite get the logical path - those who do give high ratings and those who don't see the puzzle as rather more of a chore]. Embark gets my vote.
Yay, I actually got this one, in 72:54 (I am still pretty slow at sudoku). It did take a couple of hints about how to get started but this one was pretty straightforward for me. This channel's definitely rubbing off on me.
i would love to see embark tomorrow! I'm a big fan of fog of war puzzles, they're the type of puzzles i most look forward to on this channel these days. i don't tune into the channel every day as I don't always have time, but when i see there's a fog of war puzzle i always make time to check it out!
Fog of war gets my vote, I love the fact that it helps people focus on the path and not get distracted at times with information overload. But I am syre that which ever gets chosen you will solve with the usual flair and entertainment this channel always provides. Thank you for distracting us from the real world for a few hours every day.
*This* puzzle was fabulous! As for tomorrow's Puzzle, not only is the proper CtC answer "We Want Both!" but we also think you should challenge Mark in turn... when you find the right puzzles to have us vote upon for him, of course. Many people have asked for the Fog Of War Puzzle Embark by dumediat (riffclown gives the pronunciation! I think it is neat) because of the tighter solve path that Fog of War puzzles have. And a Debut! But I also think this is the more hidden difficulty puzzle, but *we* (the viewers) know you can do this. Pathfinder looks to be a very interesting solve as well, and KNT is an excellent constructor. Mark did a good job finding difficult but interesting puzzles for you to solve. You are up to the Challenge!!
A puzzle described as a mind bending one is definitely what i would like to see. Fog of war is fun, but too guided for my taste. I would love to see the puzzle that allows for a more baffled "where do we start?!"
60:55 for me. Everyone's posting about tomorrow's puzzle and not many about this one. There was a similar idea in a previous Yin-Yang puzzle with the circles next to each other, if I hadn't remembered that I wouldn't have figured this one out. Same goes for the checkerboard and perimeter "rules", no way I could hit on those myself.
I think when Simon does FOW puzzles it always fun to watch when he reveals grid spaces. That being said I personally love doing the puzzles alongside the video and really like numbered regions puzzles
@@tallcat Not yet, just completely honored to even be in the running among a giant such as KNT, and that people were kind enough to suggest my puzzle in the first place.
@dumediat As suscat said..unreal haven't been featured yet on here. Constantly love your setting and every puzzle you have done. This fog from you will light up Simon's face and fill him with joy and pleasure.
Solved all on my own! Really quite lovely puzzle, highly recommend this one. Always enjoy the yin-yang puzzles :D As for tomorrow's video, I think the fog one would be really interesting to see how well it works with the rules provided, I think that would be really cool. I also like the thrill of solving fog puzzles and seeing what suddenly appears as clues the more you solve the puzzle
The fog of war one please :) I love the linear, hyper-focused path to the solution, and all the surprises along the way. Also, it's extremely pleasing for people with a limited attention span and a tendency to get lost in the grid. In these puzzles it's clearer where I should look next and that enables focusing on the logic required to unlock the next step, rather than dealing with so many options and struggling to find a lead. And it looks like an interesting variation!
I would love to see the Fog of war puzzle. I feel like these are always such a great watch. The fog provides such a small starting point and leads to such interesting logic.
I dont always have time to, but I really enjoy watching you solving these sudokus and especially I love the way you are excited to get to play and solve these sudokus!! Makes me thankful for the things in life!!
Hi Simon. My vote is for Pathfinder. Me and my friends enjoy this type of puzzles a lot and we really likes to follow your videos to see how a puzzle being solved fluently. We sincerely hope that these two happinesses can meet together. ps: I am not a native speaker so my English is bad. I hope I didn't make any mistakes to express my reason for tomorrow's puzzle. Thanks for reading.
However much I love Chaos Construction puzzles in general, I think the Embark puzzle looks more intriguing and unique. It's also a puzzle I'm personally less likely to solve myself of the two, and knowing that, would be more interested in seeing Simon solve it instead :)
Gotta agree with the masses here and toss in my vote for the fog of war puzzle. They are always good fun, and your excitement while unveiling the puzzle is contagious.
Beautiful puzzle. Took me about 50 minutes until I ran into a sudoku probably and couldn’t place 4 on the long renban in box 9, so I restarted the puzzle and I realized that once I eliminated 5 in row 3 column 7, my brain thought that I should eliminate a 4 from row 2 column 7. So that little conundrum took me about 20 minutes longer on the puzzle than it should’ve 😂…so about 70 minutes in total
I would like to vote for the Fog of War mashup--I've solved and loved many of dumediat's puzzles and was delighted to be a tester for this one; it's really lovely and innovative, and even I made it through so it's not monstrously hard. (Both puzzles are certainly great, but that's my vote!)
This was a great puzzle. I love watching coloring puzzles because you can see the Joy on Simon's face, and this one was a fun one. It was really cool how the yinyang interacted with the renban lines.
You should absolutely do “Embark”, the fog of war puzzle! I love your enthusiasm (almost giddy-ness) when you get to solve that style of puzzle. And we all know we’re here to share in Simon’s and Mark’s enjoyment… oh and I guess a little bit for the brilliance of logic. 😜
Simon, I'd love for you to complete the Fog of War puzzle. It was lovely seeing you solve the last one you did on the channel. I also want you or Mark to solve the other one at some point on the channel.
If Chaos Construction isn't done tomorrow (and it probably won't based on the other comments), hopefully it will follow the next day. I'm up for a two+ hour mindbender that is somewhat closer to traditional Sudoku.
Simon, never let go of the chance to solve such an enormous Fog of War puzzle! And we'll be quite confident that you can do it :-) This specific puzzle seems to be an intriguing combination of rules, and yet the Fog of War rule type might provide just a clear logical path into the problem that can be followed.
I’m feeling greedy tomorrow. How about both. Simon could do the fog of war and Mark can chaos construction. Thanks for asking for input. Sounds like a good idea for us to choose Friday’s puzzle.
i'd be interested to see the pathfinder puzzle! i stopped to take a read of the ruleset, and it seems restrictive in some interesting ways, not to mention i always love a puzzle with unique rules!
My vote is for the fog of war puzzle. Like you Simon I also love that new type of puzzle. Plus those variants incorporated into a fog of war is incredibly intriguing.
I agree with the other comments! Embark would be a great puzzle to solve. The combination of fog of war and deconstruction seems like it would be really interesting to watch. Also, defog puzzles are always fun to watch. Great puzzling today!
Do the Fog one please. I really enjoy the logic behind those puzzles. The hilarious thing about fog puzzles: Simon always shivers when he places a digit in order to reveal some squares 🙂
Simon, can you please explain why you use grey and green for your shaded/unshaded colors? Why not use two colors which have more contrast like you do with parity puzzles and orange/blue?
I'd like to see both puzzles, and in that case, I'm not fussed about which you choose to do first. If I'm not too late, and if I had to choose just one, it would probably be the fog of war, because I've never seen it used for a non-sudoku puzzle. It's also fun watching your little face light up when you place a digit.
Definitely try the fog of war puzzle! But now I’m kind of hoping someone does a hybrid of chaos construction and fog 🙂 the fog puzzles are always exciting to me because it feels like a journey of discovery
Solved in 24:42. Always fun to see fog of war puzzles, and it would be an interesting new application of fog of war to display. My first insight about the puzzle was exactly how the five cells of circles must be possible to avoid 2x2 regions.
You asked how many times a color can change around the perimeter of a Ying-yang puzzle, to which you claimed the answer was once. I disagree, as the answer must be even to return to the original color, and my answer was twice.
After a bit of headscratching at the start (cunning setting) this came together wonderfully and flowed as smoothly as particularly smooth honey which has been well oiled.
I vote for Embark. The set of rules combined with Fog of War sounds fascinating and hasn't been done on the channel before. I also can't get enough of Simon's joy as fog clears.
I would love to see the fog one. I am just amazed behind the logic of just being able to start these fog puzzles. I can see why Simon says it's the next big thing the fog puzzles
I vote for the Fog of War puzzle. You seem to just get such a kick out of solving them, and for good reason. As per this puzzle, absolutely lovely setting and solving! I love the row of circles as well as the sudoku bits at the end. Not too hard, but quite pretty! Favorite quote from today’s video: - “I thought that was going to do all sorts of jiggery pokery, but all it’s actually done is a load of piggery jokery, and that’s a quite different thing.”
I'm going to put in an earnest vote for KNT's index-based chaos construction, since it's directly inspired by the Jesper puzzle making use of that concept which you solved a few weeks back. I found that ruleset and your solve of it particularly bonkers, and this one looks like it will be every bit as fun. The path rule they added makes it really next level both in complexity and creativity, and after staring at the opening clues for a few minutes I can tell there are some incredibly deep deductions to be had. Would make for a really nice showcase! Also, I just want to add in response to some other votes that you can never have too many chaos construction puzzles :)
36:04 finish. I flew through a lot of this puzzle, but got tripped up when I missed a single pencil mark, forcing a major rewind. I was able to get back on track, but it wasted 5-6 minutes of my time finding the error. Fun puzzle! Do the fog of war puzzle. Always love those.
You should do both !! I've solved the Pathfinder puzzle and it's just stunning good chaos construction with very interesting geometry involved. And of course, a fog of war is always fun to watch and solve :)
Hi Simon. My vote is for Pathfinder. It is easily one of my favorite puzzles of all and one of my proudest solves. Sublime puzzle from a brilliant constructor. I believe it is a must solve for CtC because some of its deductions are truly some of the most mind bending deductions I've had the pleasure to experience. The interplay of the chaos construction and the path drawing is truly unique. This is much more than a difficult, creative chaos construction. It is a one of a kind masterpiece.
You should do the fog puzzle by dumediat. He was my Secret Santa for 2022 and he created a fabulous puzzle for me and I think it would be interesting to see hidden Yajilin logic with a fog addition to it.
I vote for Embark! I know Simon really seems to enjoy fog of war puzzles and every logical conclusion he gets just lights his face up and it is awesome watching him solve them
