Drive (2011), directed by Nicolas Winding Refn, is one of the most important and influential films about male manipulator movies/"sigma cinema" such as Taxi Driver, Joker, American Psycho, and The Wolf of Wall Street. Ryan Gosling's performance in this film made me think many times that "He is literally me." I have always rated this film very high. It could even be said that it is in my top 10. However, in spite of that, I believe that the popularity and hype of the film is largely due to the reddit community and the mainstream popularity of memes featuring characters from the movie drive. Not too long ago, I watched this film with my girlfriend, who had never seen it. At first her review of Ryan Gosling's character surprised me, left me confused, and a little angry. In this video, I'm going to take a look at the movie Drive from an alternate point of view, to do some analysis of the film.
Is Ryan (the driver) a male role model and a real human being? In many ways, it's up to each person to make that determination for themselves.
