I bicycled 2700kms from Toronto to St John's when I moved back here about 15 years ago. It awoke something in me that promptly went back to sleep when I got a job and started working again. 3 years ago I got off my lazy ass and spent 6 weeks cycling Japan. When I got back I was watching a lot of cycling RU-vid and planning what I was going to do next and stumbled across sailing RU-vid. I've always wanted to sail around the world but assumed it was a rich man's pastime, having discovered you can do it for a reasonable amount of money that's my current goal. 2.5 years to go before I set off. Cycle touring is awesome but it's really hardwork and living out of a couple of bags sucks I surely don't need to tell you that. With even a small boat by comparison it will be luxury and I'll be happy on windy days instead of cursing them.😂 In the meantime my adventures are limited to weekends in the woods, saving for a boat and enough to be self sustaining for a couple of years. And sailing lessons, still have to learn how to sail.😂
Thank you for this. I’m a 53 year old wife and mom of an autistic teen who we homeschool and co-caretaker of my mother in law who lives with us (and has for 13 years) and I left my job after a medical issue to take this on full time while my partner works. I dream about being able to go out on adventures because we simply don’t know how long we have. (My medical issue showed me that). So I am doing small adventures. Day getaways. Things that fuel me to carry on.
When I was a kid, my bike was the way to explore the area around my town. I went everywhere, be it urban, industrial, or country landscapes. Those were never glorious long-distance trips - just day rides, sometimes only a couple of hours after school, but they were real adventures, which I did with my like-minded buddies, sometimes by myself. With the fall, days would get shorter and rainier, but we'd ride as long as we could before winter came. Winters were harsh but fun in their own way, yet I'd always look forward to the spring, when streams would start trickling down the streets, which meant it was time to get the bike ready for a new season. I was never bored. Decades later, now on the other side of the globe, I still don't find myself bored and I don't feel the need to travel to any exotic destinations. I just remember those days when I was a child and everything seemed so new, fresh, and undiscovered, and I realize that there's so much right here, around me, that's worth exploring. Thank you for the video.
Thanks adam, great to see you...ive been wanting to take the "nuclear" option lately likely because im burnt out from my unfulfilling 9-5 corporate job..
Great video. You can show us some good open water swims! Have you thought about doing any events? Hever Castle 5k swim was pretty fun. Long Course Weekend at Tenby is pretty amazing too.
Great video Adam! I am going to take your recommendations to heart and partake in some micro adventures. I am in a perfect location to do so. I also needed this video to help me get out of a rut. Keep posting the great content!
Yes. Stopped a multi-month dirt tour half way this year because I didn't feel a reason to continue. Since then it's been a lot of regrouping. Going to take awhile to figure out. I've done enough so much searching through adventures with no real feeling of achieving anything at the completion of them. Seem to keep moving, but toward or from what? Thanks for your words.
When you met Duzer was how I found your channel. Love the sense of adventure you both have. My adventures are local due to the usual work, family etc. but it's always fun to hop on the bike, turn off all electronics, take a turn into a forest I haven't visited yet and get that "where the hell am I?" moment.
man, this is just what I wanted to find. Me and 3 others are doing a fitness challenge, so I'm going to suggest a micro adventure to spice things up! Thanks!
Very good points, and a great message - it really is important to try and make the most of your days when you can, and can do it where you live. That said, I am still planning on cycling from Asia to Europe next year : )
My fit friend has been diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer. He's a fit guy - does mini triathlon. Don't put off following your desires - do it now. It won't necessarily leave you broke or with a booze problem.
I’m really sorry to hear that. There’s many ways to follow our desires. Quitting everything to do it is one way, but a difficult way. For many it’s not possible or advisable. For some it will be the best decision they ever make.
Adam, I can’t say enough good things about Ryan and Beau! Both of them find or make adventure! Both of them spread and encourage positivity! And both of them film it all and share it for us to see….. and get inspired! I think that there is a lot to be had in creating our own “backyard” adventures. I was thinking about those bbq grills, ya know, the ones sitting next to the picnic tables, the ones in the local park that get some use in the summer, on weekends. Well that cook up a nice dinner.. lunch, heck, a breakfast, other days if the week too. To add adventure, I hope to go to a park after work one of these days. Cook up some vittles… heck, maybe make a Duzer burrito!
