I noticed he cheaper batteries are larger than the ones in the video. Would those batteries add too much power for the camera? I’m so worried about overloading the camera. I’m a newb and just got into videography and bought this rig. Any help would be much appreciated

Tom Rich I noticed the cheaper batteries are larger. Should I just use one of those to power the bmpcc4k or should i keep both large batteries on the battery plate?

Hey Corey, sorry about the slow reply! You can get smaller ones too :) the nice thing about Sony NPF batteries is that they come in lots of different sizes and all charge through the same port, so no you don’t need to worry about overloading the camera! Hopefully that helps.

Tom Rich I went ahead and bought the ones you had linked the np-f970 ones. I believe the camera says it can take up to 20v so i think I should be good with even the larger batteries plugged into this.

Corey Brown Yup absolutely! I recently did a shoot where I used both size batteries on the plate on a gimbal setup. Worked well!

The BMCCP4k is a total budget camera. What exactly do people consider an affordable cinema camera price, $20.00 😂? It cost less than an iPhone 14, lol.

Thanks so much for this. Been looking for solutions for batteries for bmpcc 4k and this clears it up completely! Had a quick question. I've never felt the need for a monitor and they seem to be a bit intrusive for wedding videos or travelling documentaries - do you feel it is needed for the bmpcc? Also, does the rig become and issue when using gimbals such as the Ronin-S in terms of fitting it and balancing? Cheers !

matt garrett Yo man, no worries! Really glad it helped. I do think you want a monitor particularly if you work with gimbals because the screen is fairly restricted on the BMPCC. Most gimbals will be able to handle the pocket and a cage, but I’ve not worked with the Ronin S so can’t comment! With heavier lenses you might struggle though.

I have had the same power solution for the last year or so, and it is a great solution on the cheap when you don’t have the cash for a Vlock battery system.Great video rig tutorial, thanks.

The Topshelf Company I would suggest mounting the batteries on the bottom and then using the top right mount for a mic!

Great setup. Have the batteries gotten loose when you mounted them at the bottom of the camera? Maybe is me but it doesn't seem very secured. also, how many hours of power were you able to get?

Thanks mab, no it's pretty good! The catches are fairly study. So I haven't run it into the ground, but 2 large capacity NPF lastest me 40 mins of interview recording and hardly dented the capacity. So I think the beauty of it being able to be swapped out very easy with other NPF means it's a decent option.

I have one and it lasts about 3 hours, if you buy the plate and place it under you have option to swap it with a more powerful v-mount. I got a 190 which lasts all day when my core dies. Only thing is you can travel with core but not the 190 v-mount

Tom Rich thanks so much. And the camera cant record at all unless u have an sd card right? Or any memory drive? Thrs no internal storage to make like 2 second clips to test the cam out whn u get it?
