I remember watching this as a kid. This scene broke my heart only to put it all back together at the end of the film. Mind you, I still emote more w/ Johnny Depp's Wonka, only w/ respect to my view towards children, not that I dislike children seeing as I used to be one...
+Elkington lol it's not so unusual, once I barely made it to the bathroom and barfed everywhere and it even got on the ceiling. so I had to wash the ceiling. no joke.
Channels That Show Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory Was BBC1 Then BBC2 And Later It Was ON TNT Classic Movies Which Later Changed To Turner Classic Movies (TCM Then TCM Movies)
In the scene where Wonka angrily reads to Charlie the contract out loud, he reads two lines in Latin: "Fax mentis incendium gloriae" and "Memo bis punitor delicatum". The first line roughly translates to "The torch of glory kindles the mind". The second line, as it is heard in the movie, is actually gibberish. The closest Latin equivalent would be "Memor bis punitor delictum", which translates to "I am mindful that the crime is punished twice (or in two ways)."
Did anyone notice that Wonka opens the safe door even though the other side is wide open.. Damn all of the times I've watched this, I just noticed this little comedic gem in the midst of a serious scene... lol
"It's all there, black and white, clear as crystal" I say that whebever somebody yells at me when they read sonething wrong or don't understand the text
Like on New Jersey 101.5 FM whenever a caller/contestant loses the end of the week game during the 6pm hour on Friday evenings Hosted By Jeff Diminski and Bill Doyle. They use this audio right now.
"Smart" isn't a behaviour. "Aggravated" isn't a behaviour. They are more like states. You can be crazy, but you can't be a crazy, you can be smart but you can't be a smart. You can HAVE Schizophrenic behaviour, but you can't BE a Schizophrenic behaviour. Good day, sir.
"...You're a crook.... You're a cheat and a swindler! THAT'S what you are!! How could you do a thing like this?? Build up a little boy's hopes and then smash all his dreams to pieces?? You're an inhuman monster!!!" "I WAS FROZEN TODAY!!!!!" >:(
@milkmanv1 Exactly. Grandpa Joe broke the rules. Granted, Charlie went sipped Fizzy Lifting Drink to, but it was mostly Grandpa Joe that was at fault. Willy didn't need to yell at Charlie!
The expression on Charlie's face when Willy Wonka shouts at them what it said on the contract. He was like, "I don't remember seeing that on the contract. If I did, I probably would've thought twice before signing it."
A classic Gene Wilder moment. Also for your consideration... I'M IN PAIN AND I'M WET AND I'M HYSTERICAL! MY BLUE BLANKET!!! GIVE MY CREATION LIIIIIIIIIIIIIFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFEEEEEEE! AND THEY'RE CERTAINLY NOT SHOWING/ANY SIGNS THAT THEY ARE SLOWING!
I never realized before that Wonka was seriously furious and had an actual change of heart when Charlie gives him the gobstopper. Wonka wasn't just testing him.
Many people when it comes to watching this thought "did they do something wrong or did they miss part of the contest?" The first half of it they think: "uh-oh they did something wrong." The other half they thought: "uh-oh, they missed part of the contest."
@steezyfranco he is saying "Et cetera" which is long for ETC. It is latin and means "and other things". So for example when someone writes something down like: "Milk and Bread......etc" they really mean "Milk and Bread....and other things"
@DocRavage Imagine the movie theater owner stopping the movie right there, then watching the people stumble outside... even for a few seconds before calling them back in, so worth every millisecond spent watching their reaction :D

Child's dreams vs. The Rules. It's the classic spontaneous happiness vs. strict rules battle. A battle for all time. What will win in the end... happiness? or truth? Stay tuned.
