Dude is the best. 35 years ago I played in a successful band playing a lot o skynyrd. Knew this song note 4 note. I was lead on the end. 35 years later couldn’t quite remember it. Watched this, it all came back
Yah we did too. Brings back so many awesome memories. We had so much fun playing parties and bars and played a lot of these songs. Southern rock and blues was our thing and we were passionate about it.
You are a Godsend , we are doing 90 mins of tribute to them and a direct connection like you is almost a spiritual masterclass.... just chilling . Amazing. Grateful for all the time you took to post all ths.
Hey Scott love your work on RU-vid . I've been playing to Skynyrd songs my whole life , and I'm 67 years old at present, yes guess you could say I'm a die hard fan. Thanks to you putting out those tutorials You've dialed me into the licks and riffs I couldn't get from the listening to common available music systems as they just don't pick up all the hard work that was they put tracks to. It's sad but a perfect example is what you hear, or more to the point is all the tracks you don't hear from FM radio. I'm sure the commercial industry has their fingers in that pie but that's a whole different beast. My request to you is could you do your magic on the song "what's your name" ? Again my hats off to you Scott, love ya brother
That Steve Gaines solo at the end is one of my favorites of all time. LOVE the way it kicks in after the moment of silence. Beautiful, thanks so much for sharing this. Would love to hear if you've picked up any Steve Gaines anecdotes in your travels, from Ed King or anyone else. Like Eddie Cochran, a bright and cheerful light snuffed out much too soon.
"That moment of silence and the "UUUh !" that follows, Is the hook and it's absolutely perfect. So many songs overuse the " hook" and it becomes cliché. It's pure genius.. This is one of my top 3 favorites from L.S. Got that right, call me the breeze & I know a little. I can't decide which I like best so I say " top 3".
Well Scotty….. you gave me a gift of seeing someone else play it and demo rhythm and lead and do a fabulous job on a song we both love. I came to live in Jacksonville because of Skynyrd…. Got to meet all of them and this music is as fresh as the day it was written. My happy place is putting you in my big screen and turning up the theatre sounds system and playing along with you!!! That laugh after you finish playing makes my day!! Thanks brother…. you got that right!!!!
Scott, what a huge blessing to have this content. These songs have so much groove and are so fun. Love watching you play and have learned so much. Thank you for being such a humble guy just wanting to pass on these great songs.
I come from the shredder school (Van Halen) etc..with that said.. I've always had the utmost respect for L.S. you tore it up... God bless you brother....
Your like my food for the week. I got to eat. You been feeding me for the last year. Your shit is so freaking spot on. Been playing since I was a kid. Had no ideal what I was trying to do. But at 50. I’ve said. You always wanted to be a bad ass guitar player. And here I am. Learning the music of my roots. You are God Sent. Thank you. No shit.
I have said so many times. I felt that with the addition of Steve Gaines, a fresh set of ideas and songs were right there. I think there were two or thee more platinum albums coming. It still makes me sad.
The first Video I watched was the Ed King tribute.I am loving this now! I am going to see Lynyrd Skynyrd at Rockville in November but I will see y'all in Glasgow, KY on September 11! Can't wait! You are awesome!
I’m a bran new subscriber and I just wanted to touch base with you on my reasoning for subscribing ….. you’re sound system…state of the art Video quality… state of the art Teaching skills … state of the art Not too much teaching .. just enough for me.. keep up the great work… I stumbled on your utube spot and I will spread the word … I’m 63 and playing every extra minute I can…. Thank you !!
Dude im black an love southern rock i have a studio im working on an i cant wait to wood shed & break thur that ceiling i have before me!! thanks to your help!!!
Just awesome to learn from someone who knows what they are doing , as a 56 year old southern boy who grew up with this music its part of our life story and honored to be able to attempt this awesome music
Scott, you are amazing! Thank you so much for doing this from the love of your heart and your passion for preserving these songs as they were meant to be played for future generations.
You got that right!!!! I remember cranking my stereo and playing the air guitar to this one when I was a kid. Amazing song, thanks so much. Definitely going to try and play this one!!!!! On a real guitar this time :-)
Scott you are such a bad ass player man!! Geez this is one of my fav songs but definitely my favorite video of you playing the tune. Thanks for what you do here.. Solid man!! 👏👏👏👏
Loving your videos! Thanks. I would note that Steve played his black Les Paul Custom as seen in the Asbury Park Concert from July 1977. His solo at the end is indescribable. How he made his Les Paul sound like a Strat is beyond me but he's my favorite guitar player of all time!
YOU GOT THAT RIGHT. YOU LEARN TO PLAY ONE SKYNARD SONG. YOU LEARN TO PLAY GUITAR. THESE CHORDS,NOTES, ARE PLAY THROUGHT THE WORLD. BUT ONLY SKYNARD PUT IT TOGETHER WITH A UNIVERSE OF SOUND. AS YOU SAID. ITS GLOBAL.
I haven't played in years. I quit because of boredom and never getting past being intermediate. Being a huge Collins fan also liking all the players in Skynyrd. Wanting to see Artimus live sometime also.
Boy I destroyed my albums back then learning this shit until the sony walkman came out and then I could record and use the CD player. I learned a ton of spouthern Rock.I played in pretty good bands when I quit playing but I still played enough to keep my chops up until about 10 years ago. I was just too busy with work. I went into production work, mixing, lighting and everything else that goes with it. I was making a lot more money doing that and just couldn't do both. Can't be in a band and book shows when you work in live entertainment because the shows are not all on weekends but most of them are. I have a nice club and small street festival sound rig and a small lighting system. I just might start another band now that I can take off work now and then when I want to in my semi retirement years. All I need is a decent paying hobby and no more work for me but as we all know bands are not easy to kep together,
Man! In one night you've helped me open up my guitar playing to another level.. loved me some skynyrd since I was a kid and your videos are very very helpful and I thank you from the deepest part of my heart...Cheers to you sir you're an amazing picker
Thank you so much for your time and inspiration !!!!! I’ve been playing on and off for 20+ years but I accidentally fell onto your channel a few weeks ago and I’ve never been so motivated as I am now. Thank You Thank You Thank You Man ! I weld for a living and I see so many of the old timers passing in the welding industry and taking their knowledge with them, which is sad. With that being said, I thank you so much again.
God bless you for sharing your background and music. Hearing Lynyrd Skynyrd for the first time in the 70s just made me a fan forever. I’m learn Simple Man. Cause what’s my mother always told me. I was even in a play about Hank William Sr. Lonesome Hwy. It’s about how Hank hung out with a black street singer. His name was Tetot. And he help Hank Sr sing. I played Tetot. And it’s just reminded me of Curtis Lowe.
Awesome....have not tried this one yet!...Looks like you was meant to carry the torch of Lynyrd Skynyrds great guitar work by continuing to feed us hungry fans frynd!
Usually the first thing I do is just hit the damn up vote 'cause I know I'm gonna love it. Don't change a thing sit right keep on doing it. Love the dissection. Rock on dude.
I would love to have you do That Smell. We played that in our band long ago. I played drum back then but now learning guitar and these are fantastic songs to learn. Love it!
There seems to be a lot of buzz around LS lately more than ever . So many audio tracks , vids, documentaries , lessons like this ,live footage & the reaction vids. Those are really peculiar . It is obvious that YT has given everyone so much footage of the band & everything else that was gathering dust for a couple of decades until the high band web & then Smartphones , ubiquitous . Great playing Scott . As far as I can tell , at this point , you seem to be the high authority on LS guitar work now that Gary is gone . Thanks ,dude !
Been spending a lot of time on your Channel Scott! Loved listening to Skynyrd all through Jr High and High school back in the 70s. Can't thank you enough for showing us these great songs!!!
Damn Bro ! Now I have to completely re learn the whole song . You absolutely just blew my mind. I was playing it like 50% different ,but your way is definitely the correct way. Thank you . This is probably my #1 skynryd tune and you just shattered me. But I thank you ! Now I can finally play it correctly .
