What I really like about Rimuru is that he's an adult. Not a man-child, or a hikikomori, or a hapless otaku -- but an actual adult. Who's just a laid-back, nice guy who wants to solve things with as little fuss as possible. It's such a breath of fresh air.

I love the main character because he's an adult, he approaches things from a natural and realistic angle. He has a lot of power but he doesn't act like an idiot with it, or go around saving as many people as he can like naive shonen MCs and I love it. I'm tired of these 10 year old MCs that CLEARLY don't know what they are doing.

The fact that Rimuru used to be a well adjusted adult in his past life, actually informs us of his priorities in life and how different his values are from the usual protagonists of isekai. In this case what he values most is safety, stability, peace and order. He doesn't like killing but is totally fine with doing it if needed, and his actions are all about making people feel safe and comfortable.

One of my favorite things about the show is actually the sound. They keep the speech and music at a volume that leaves plenty of headroom for explosions to have real impact, without being excessive. Explosion in SAO: WHUMPH (and it even sounds like it's clipping). Explosion in Slime: BANG!

I like how rimiru's former life as a office worker is reflected in his approach to dealing with whatever obstacles he runs into, if he doesn't have the skills to deal with it himself, he goes off to look for experts in that field as he did with the dwarves

i was instantly hooked when he absorbed all the grass and rocks.... i play EVERY RPG like that... break EVERY box and jar, cut EVERY bush. That was the perfect analogy for a tutorial first level.

I was sold the moment I saw Tsundere dragon in episode 1

The favorite part for me about Slime is just how casual Rimuru is which just felt refreshing. It's also why I couldn't really get into the WN because it didn't really carry that laid back charm. The least favorite part was the Shizu dies. With the massive impact she has on Rimuru as a character, I wish she stayed longer or didn't just die off and supported Rimuru like Veldora does inside him. At one point I fancied that maybe she joined with the Great Sage, but fat chance of that happening, seem clear she's gone. And that's kinda sad.

I don't know if you've finished the anime, but after seeing it for myself, it is the most fun I've had with an anime for while. Rimuru is definitely up there as one of my favorite anime MCs.

So we're a bit into Slime now and I've got to say, I've noticed what it is that I like most about it. In this anime, being good works. Now I feel like I've got to expand of this for it to make sense, so give me a second. In most anime, and even in most non-anime, good actions only end up costing the person making said actions in one way or another. Doing good in the world requires sacrifices, and all you get back is the fact that people are happy, and what most people don't recognize is that this message is a double edged sword. 1st, if someone is less selfless, they may be led to ask, "Why should I do things for other people if it's just going to end up costing me in the long run?" and 2nd, it makes the subconscious connection that if someone is not sacrificing something, then what they're doing is not "good". And this is by no means a modern development. In FMA, Edd had to give up his alchemy to save his brother. In Steins;gate, basically every step forward came with massive amounts of personal sacrifice. In Code Geass, Lelouce had to give up his life in order for world peace. Frodo had to lose his finger at mount Doom, Harry Potter had to give up a powerful wand and lost many friends, and I could go on and on. Now this thought process is not without merit. Quite often, good actions are not met with good reactions. Some times, doing good things just *is* a flat out sacrifice. If you donate to charity, it is not going to come back around or end up paying you back in some way. Unfortunately the world just doesn't work like that most of the time. But it seems like in almost all cases that I can think of, good actions are always tied to major sacrifices from the characters that make them. Literature, especially fantasy literature, has made good actions synonymous with suffering, so much so that if there isn't suffering it seems like wish fulfillment or feels saccharine. But Slime doesn't say that. It says "hey, look at this guy who just wants to help people and how *well* everything has worked out for him!" IMO, that is a far more encouraging message. And not only that, all the good that happens to the MC is *because* of his own kind actions. Sacrificing his life for someone else made him OP in the next world. Not attacking the adventurers at the cave allowed him to make friends and learn about the human world later. Forging a peace between the goblins and the dire wolves made them both stronger for it. Standing up against a corrupt politician gave him an ally in some of the best craftsmen out there. And the list goes on and on. Personally, I do think that those who act with kindness and generosity to others will end up receiving it back from the friends and allies they make along the way. If people know you are trustworthy, they will be less likely to betray you due to not wanting to lose someone who is on their side. If you are friendly, people will want to reciprocate your friendship. Being good works. And I'm glad to see an anime that is willing to say it.

Watching this every week after Goblin Slayer confuses my feels on goblins.

I find it really interesting how the show is actually SUPER dark, but the main character's attitude and its presentation really makes it light and actually heart warming, which I think is crazy....

The scene that really got me was when Shizue died and saw her mother again, and as she ran toward her she grew younger until she was just a child in her mothers arms. Her idea of heaven was the last time she was happy, before the war and death and demon possession. I just found that so beautiful it moved me to freakin tears

What make me fall in love with is this. All of the other "good" isekai like overlord, re:zero, no game no life, konosuba, became good because they offer something new. Overlord have the mc being a villain. Re: zero is phsycological horror. And konosuba is comedy. But tensura is good while still being a cliche. You can't say overlord or re:zero is what isekai should be like, because well they have very differemt premise, it's like comparing pizza to say, a bowl of soup, completely different thing. But tensura have the same cliche premise as other mainstream isekai, its's also a pizza, but a good pizza. It take a cliche concept and actually make it enjoyable to watch. Tensura is the ultimate example of what tipical cliche isekai should be like.

One thing that I liked in this show is that it handles discrimination with humans being really prejudiced against rimuru and the other monsters. We see many people not trust the Jura tempest federation because of it being monsters and also humans outside dwargon bully rimuru and gobta for being monsters. I just love how it deals with these real life problems

When I first read the manga I totally glossed over that the fact that Veldora, one of the strongest creatures in existence, named Rimuru and gave him his power... was like 12 chapters later when I realized that Veldora was why he was so strong.

Rumiru, Remiru, Rimiru, Rimuri - I so hope it was your intent to mispronounce Rimuru :D

One of the things I like about this show is that Rimiru actually stays a slime for most of his screentime. Usually in shows like these where someone gets a monster form they very quickly get some sort of handsome/cool humanoid form and stay in that form for most of the manga or series, to the point where you often wonder why they even bothered giving the character a non-handsome/cool form to begin with. Rimiru, while he does get a humanoid form, is still a slime and will very often transform back into a slime, seemingly being comfortable with either form but overall preferring his newborn slime form. It's a small thing, but I really like that the guy who got reincarnated as a slime is and will be a slime.

2:30 It's even better: Veldora gives him first name "Rimuru" but Satoru/Rimuru gives THEM both last name "Tempest".

I just started watching this anime about 2-3 weeks ago and I love how season 1 is so positive and nothing rlly bad happened. I’m usually always waiting for some bad shot to happen but this anime is actually very charming

To be fair, Japan's actions during WWII isn't really relevant to Shizu's backstory. She was a small child at the time. All we need to know is that she was there, and that Rimiru used his own memories to show her that Japan survived and even prospered afterwards.

When I first discovered That time I got Reincarnated as a Slime, I had found the manga of it randomly one night while literally bored to death of everything else that was popping up. I started reading it and immediately loved it, read all the chapters that were out at the time in one sitting. 2 Month's later, the Anime got announced. Love this Anime, although it's not number 1 on my List it is def in the top 10.

A lot of Isekais are good, it’s annoying that they are sometimes instantly seen as bad just because it’s an overused genre :( And yes reincarnated as a slime is a very good show, very unique and entertaining

But then when we found out that the King knew of it and was disappointed that he never tried to say the truth, and he started crying cuz he broke down. Damn my heart felt sad. Thank you so much for making this video. I first started watching Slime because I love Dragon Quest and wanted to see something that reminded me of it. So far, this anime has made me cry happy tears more than once. It's a feel-good anime without *being* a feel-good anime. There's no melodrama, which seems to be increasingly common in anime that want to send a message. Everything feels so real and believable, despite the high fantasy world. I love the way Rimuru's powers are handled. He's unbelievably strong. He's the One Punch Man of this world that he's reincarnated into. However, he doesn't know all of his power right off the bat. He learns more and more about it as he goes along, and he seems to have some measure of control over it. Most OP characters are obnoxious and not at all relateable or believable, but Rimuru is different. I could say a lot more about this show, honestly. I just really, really, really, REALLY love it. It makes me happy. Thank you again for making this video.

okay, there's a lot to love about this show, but so far what I love most is the overall plot arc, in a few ways. First, that the story is about, kind of accidentally at first and then purposefully, building a multiracial, nation state built on community and everyone helping and getting help according to their ability and need. HMMM WHAT DOES ALL OF THIS SOUND LIKE. but I mean this show isn't political at all, god forbid. Second, it escalates in a really natural, organic way. Rimiru is a reactive protagonist, but neither one narrowly focused on a personal goal or an ideologue, but someone who feels obligation towards other people, a sense of duty and kindness to better the situation of others and help people get along. And he's willing to punch Na-uh, bad people to do it. Rimiru wants civil discourse, and very often just tries to make a display of power to scare people into backing down because he genuinely does not want to hurt people. BUT when it's necessary he doesn't hesitate, and he doesn't spare enemies that dumber protagonists might have. He doesn't have a pointless no kill rule, because, unfortunately in a world of fucking assholes and survival of the fittest, transforming it into a rational, kind society is going to take a lot of blood, and we're kidding ourselves if we think otherwise. Heads have to start rolling. just, you know, in this fantasy, by no means should we ever extrapolate, god forbid. That aside, there's also a domino effect to the story, a cascading series of events kicked off by Rimiru swallowing Veldora, which triggers everything he and other characters react to, and expands outwards in implications. Events lead to other events in logical progressions, which you could say, duh, that's good storytelling, but it's remarkable how many stories, even good ones, don't manage this so well, or with as much precision and attention to worldbuilding. It establishes consistent mechanics of the world, too, and when Rimiru wins, you know precisely why. There's no "oh the hero just wanted it more" or "power of love baby" answers. Rimiru's power wouldn't be worth much if he wasn't thoughtful and restrained. Whenever he discovers a new OP ability he's like "oh no this is too much gotta be VERY CAREFUL with this", which is great. Because he's always considering how too much power could cause collateral damage. an often mentioned hero issue is being cavalier about collateral damage, which is particularly problematic with Western superheroes (and the "heroes" of Konosuba lmaooooo). If Rimiru has a limit to his power it's only in that he isn't a fucking asshole. It's so refreshing to have a kind power fantasy. I joke to some degree but I think Rimiru is kind of what you would see if you deliberately set out to make a socialist power fantasy rather than a fascist power fantasy (which is most power fantasies, especially almost all Marvel and DC properties however much they may dress it in progressive values). that scene mentioned in the video is crazy load-bearing, because it almost singlehandedly justifies why Shizu and Rimiru become so strongly connected in the brief time they know each other, and...it works. And it doesn't feel contrived, or that Shizu died to motivate Rimiru - because she was very old in truth, and Rimiru takes up HER goal rather than using her death to motivate his own goal. And he didn't have to do this at all, hell it's kinda extra, but that's who Rimiru is. He isn't going to immediately leap to help to people, but once he's decided to, he's ALL IN.

you know season one is so chill and then season 2 and the LN after that is just... hardcore

I really identify with how Rimuru interacts with the new world. He is trying to build a life in a fantastical new, yet quasi familiar, place. He is not looking for adventure or relishing in his own power. He never assumes he is the strongest guy in the room even though he often is. One of my favorite scenes is the dwarven courtroom and the aftermath. He could have said "screw you guys, I'm going home," at any second and there is very little anyone could have done to stop him. The other thing is that the king was (secretly) aware of how powerful rimuru is and respected the slime for being civil. One thing about the MC is that he knows next to nothing about the rest of the world. (For that matter neither does the audience) We/he knows he is powerful compared to the low tier monsters in the forest. The monsters in the cave were probably mid tier and he handled them easily. Imagined if you were reincarnated into a world with superpowers and got drunk off your own ass before you realized there were thousands of other super beings running around. Even if you were in the 90% that still makes a lot of folks that could whoop your ass. Since you decided to throw your weight around like you're playing grand thief auto you now have a giant neon target on your back.

This anime is just getting started I mean just wait for it's second season...it's gonna be a bit dark..more action packed

You say he main character is of average intelligence, but that’s untrue. His great sage ability’s appraisal is only a small part of the skill. For example, it increases all mental function a thousandfold (Yes, I said that right), removes the need to chant for magic, and like five other things.

I'm looking forward to the next big series: "That One Time I Wrote a Fantasy Light Novel and Gave It an Incredibly Ridiculous Title But It Became Super Popular Anyway".

One of the points that I had hoped he would touch on is the fact that rimuru in his past life was a general contractor and used that experience as a leader and in the construction field to build the town. That was so cool to me and was a great explanation as to how someone could go from the modern world to constructing and ruling a sprawling kingdom of monsters.

I will forever be grateful to you, for recommending me this anime. Though i still can't get that stupid "Gabiru! Gabiru!" chant out of my head. The animation, story and characters and awesome. I'm eagerly waiting for October 2020!
