This has happened frequently over the years, and I often find myself rolling my eyes. Imagine if you 'created' a miles-long sandy beach. Each grain of sand is analogous to a star in the observable universe. What they propose is that you would want a personal relationship with the microbes infesting one (or perhaps many) of those grains of sand, and carefully alter the events on that grain of sand to please certain microbes that gave you enough praise. The big bang is not the beginning of the universe. The big bang is the beginning of the expansion of the universe. The universe was never a singularity nor was it ever in an eternally inert state that suddenly became active for literally no reason. To suddenly get activity from an eternity of non-activity is to get something from nothing. An active universe is always active even if its activity isn't always expansion. So, a universe that's always been here doesn't have to come from and furthermore cannot come from anywhere. It's always here in some form or another and is beyond any requirement for a god. In fact, as any sentience requires the sensations of a sensational world to be sentient of, a universe must preexist the idea of any sentient being claimed to be a god.
@queuecee
@queuecee 13 часов назад
These guys claim that their god existed for an eternity and was the prime cause that started all the other causes of the universe. So they are saying that god existed for an eternity, but at some point, he decided to create the universe. Just out of nowhere. And they can't say that it was for some specific reason. That's because they put themselves into a hole where now they have a cause and have to explain what caused that cause all of a sudden. And what caused the cause for that. Until they end up with the same infinite regression problem that they claim is impossible.
@Seticzech
@Seticzech 11 часов назад
Well, it's not that simple you're trying to say here. You must define what the universe is first before you can say that it was never singularity. Singularity is just a state of something so claiming universe was never singularity can be nonsensical. "that suddenly became active for literally no reason" Activity requires time. If time began to exist in the point zero of big bang, that sense has also no meaning. That also applies to any reason or (how theists like to say) "uncaused cause" preceding point zero of the big bang. "An active universe is always active even if its activity isn't always expansion." So spacetime existed before the big bang? Any evidence for such claim? "It's always here in some form or another" Ok, now you're contradict yourself. But with this sentence I agree as with possibility. 🙂

I've wondered about this too. But it kind of goes with the theistic mindset of being convinced by storytelling rather than waiting for reasonable evidence. Many theists (and perhaps people in general) seem to favor long rambling personal anecdotes over rigorous argument where every word is closely scrutinized. I think what it comes down to, for all of us, is that we're motivated by some kind of cognitive payoff. For those who favor storytelling, the story has to feel real to them. It doesn't hurt if it's entertaining as well. For those who favor reason, the story has to withstand critical examination, and we get a certain sense of rational satisfaction when that examination is completed. An interesting difference between these two cognitive approaches is that in the first case the payoff only happens if the story is believed. Credulous people want to believe the story, because only believing will produce the emotional payoff. Critical thinkers are at least somewhat satisfied whether or not the story comes off as credible, as long as they can make an assessment one way or another. And that also explains why we feel frustrated with stories or arguments that meander about without allowing such an assessment to be made. We're not getting our cognitive payoff.

There actually is a correct answer to that question. Before there were humans to conceive of "God," all there was in the Universe was all there was in the Universe - and, that is still all there is. "God" adds nothing. So, "God" is merely a human construct. It means whatever the person using the word wants it to mean. So, humans created "God." The irony is that we cannot seem to agree on exactly what this "God" thing is supposed to actually be. So, we are left with nonsense every time we discuss it.

Issa repeated the standard arguments. From the end remark the most could have been made "Could the first cause not be God?" - The response is then, "OK, let us put a God in that spot that initiated the universe. A Prime Mover, a First Cause. And now? That is not the God you believe in. You believe in a VERY personal, human-like God, that walks around, speaks with humans, lets himself be carried around in a box. How do you know your God is really the Prime Mover from 13.7 billion years ago? Or which of the 3 abrahamic religions that share the SAME God is right? Or which of the 40,000 CHRISTIAN denominations have all the essentials of God and his will correct, and how can you know that the other denominations that are equally persuaded as you are wrong and will go to Hell?" On the way to that point, it would have been important to shake a fundamental of Issa's christian persuasion: That we humans are the final GOAL of Creation, that the whole universe was ONLY created to give the humans on a tiny planet a place to survive. That is the dogma religion baits you with: You are special, you are the one worthy thing in the universe that an all-powerful entity is obsessed by you, made you in his god image, watches you 24/7, scans your thoughts even in your sleep. For Issa it is an absolutely revolutionary principle to imagine that there is no goal, that the universe just does what the physical laws describe. Complexity arises "naturally" when the more complex structure is more stable than the less complex one. When DNA-strands form from the naturally forming amino acids on a clay surface, but do not last very long until they break up, but when by chance they get enclosed by (naturally forming) lipids that attach naturally to the DNA strand and make it more robust, so that it lasts longer, then you have made the first step to a functioning cell. But there can be trillions of other variant to produce a complex "organism". "worse" or "better" than terrestric life. Just as fundamental and revolutionary is the idea that the universe is gigantic, that it is IMperfect, meaning everything is a little different from "the other", and that everything constantly changes. And that we as part of the universe are IMperfect, are all different, and change with our age. But only IMperfection has the ability to change, only change has the potential to become better. And is that not somehow what the Bible tells us about ourselves? "We are all sinners" = we are all imperfect, and the Bible tells us we shall try for all our life to become better, but can NEVER reach the perfection, because that is reserved for God? That brings you automatically to the principle that we are definitely not the final goal of Creation, but just one step on a seemingly endless ladder of development of the universe. An idea that makes us humble, but no need to see it as humiliating (like christians would see it). Nevertheless, we are a miniscule, but inseperable part of the universe. And when you come with the heat death of the universe in 80 billion years or so - I think there are more relevant things to care about than this. We have enough to care about to make our species and this world survive for out grandchildren. So much can be improved to better life for us and for others. No need to be depressed about what happens in 80 billion years.

Thanks to scientific inquiry and the things we've ascertained about our planet's place in the known universe, we now know that's not the case. Understanding wrought from purely sensory means isn't always correct Issa. I'll grant Issa the difficulty of trying to grasp what "was" the nature of reality "before" the big bang, I certainly find it hard to fathom the idea that the potential of everything we can objectively verify in the universes current state existed in a singularity. Why are so many theists so desperate to have a belief about the origin of the universe? It's as if it's more important to have a belief about it than caring if it's what actually happened. Just believe in God if that makes you happy. But please understand that from the principle of parsimony alone, even the hypothetical idea that the universe popped into existence from nothing (please note that I don't think that's what happened), for no reason at all, is a better explanation than positing the existence of a being with consciousness, intelligence, and both the will and the capability to create universes, who, without explanation, just happens to exist as the default of existence. Also, from a scientific perspective, intelligence and consciousness are functions of complex, physical brains, not something that can exist "outside of time and space". So what you're proposing when you say God created the universe, is something we have no reason to believe to be possible.

Gracias.

There are two things a person needs in order to believe the Kalaam Cosmological Argument is proof of a creator g0d: 1) A deluded presuppositional belief in a creator g0d 2) the IQ and logic skills of a cabbage

No. Atheism is not a logical fallacy because it's not a disbelief of one version of a god. I don't know why you keep dishonestly strawmanning that. Do you think that Spinoza's god wants you to lie? Cause Spinoza's god doesn't have a will or intelligence. The god that you believe in is NOT Spinoza's god.

You only need to observe life for 5 minutes to see that god does not exist and that there is no proof of his existence. So believing in god is not common sense, it's not believing in god which is common sense, it's being an atheist which is common sense. Believing in an imaginary invisible magical omnipotent omniscient perfect "being" is not common sense. NOT believing in an imaginary invisible magical omnipotent omniscient perfect "being" it's THAT the common sense.

I have no proof for this obviously, but I’ve become more and more of the opinion that the cosmos was never created/never came into being. The assumption that there was a “time” before time that lasted “forever” before somehow something changed to engender “time” and “reality.” Sounds like horseshit the more I ponder it.

Please share with every person who thinks it is more rational to believe in an imagined creator thing, than it is not to. One two part question for people with superstitious religious beliefs. (A) If someone told you (or you read in a book) that the sun used matches and candles to spread light and heat at night. Would it be obvious to you, how self evidently illogical, irrational, unreasonable and nonsensical this idea was? (Would you understand why)? (B) If someone told you (or you read in a book) that something capable of creating a universe and everything in it, used puny humans and books to spread accurate information. Would it be obvious to you, how self evidently illogical, irrational, unreasonable and nonsensical this idea was? (Would you understand why)? All gods are imaginary. No people = No imagined gods.
