David Bowie's style was, simply, David Bowie. He wasn't like anyone else and no one else was like him. He was pure unapologetic musical genius. RIP, David...you are GREATLY missed.
Yes, the black record buying community gave David Bowie his first number one hit on Billboard in the states! Funky soul music that song be--Fame Mr. Bowie even performed it on soul train! ⭐😍 ❤️🖤💚 ✌🏾 ✊🏾👈🏾
@@luissoriano1492 Him and The Beatles were notorious for Reinventing Themselves. He worked with Nile Rogers of the Disco Group Chic who worked with a veritable who's who from Sister Sledge, Diana Ross, and Duran Duran (After Andy Taylor & Roger Taylor "left"). John Lennon who was a close Friend wrote "Fame" and he became one of the very few White Artists to do Soul Train in the 1970's. This Album came out after he successfully detoxed himself from Drugs. He's also a very smart Businessman who now Co-Owns The Beatles Music Catalogue with Michael Jackson.
I couldn't have said it better. I miss him very much. You can see him in movies he is in. It is called "Labyrinth".....he was in other movies too, look up his movies on search engine. 😊 technology is wonderful. I grew up without it.
@@lorrieannesilvey474 .." the Man who fell to earth" the best of David's films... I think it was written with Bowie in mind... he is the Alien "starman" that came to us...and boy did he blow our minds...such an influence on my life... stay safe ❤🙏
Growing up at the same time Bowie was putting out albums you just got use to the fact that every Bowie song would be different and Bowie would look different. Brilliant.
React to "Ashes to Ashes" then "I'm Afraid Of Americans" (live), and then "The Little Drummer Boy" (with Bing Crosby). David Bowie covered the entire musical spectrum.
That’s actually the GOAT Stevie Ray Vaughan on guitar....He played throughout this album. I think he’s in the “China Girl” video....A less popular song is “Cat people” but SRV shines on that one
I remember seeing the news headline: David Bowie has passed away. I was just shocked. How? He was to young. I texted my sister if she’d seen the headline and she didn’t. She was just as shocked if not more than me. Just awful.
@@kimberlysaffles9332 I always wondered how someone could be so Kool... you think I haven't heard David in a while and Wham Bam thank you man, he come back out looking stunning and new...true style setter! ..Enjoy the ever lasting Starman.. "luv on ya" 🙏
@Luna Raven Hey Hi Luna, yeah I was only 12 but what a imprint on my life... so glad it was Hunky Dory that did it for you too. the man was a legend in the true sence of the word.. when ever I see a Bowie reaction vid, I'm off again into his back catalogue...just a seventy kids with glitter in my hair.. stay safe my friend..🙏❤
Unfortunately your wasting your time even mentioning Nile Rodgers,he wouldn't know Chic if it ran him over, plus only a knob wouldn't know that's Australia. RIP the USA. Thick fucks.
Great music video, as an Australian, it’s so great to see indigenous stars in this video. Bowie was always about representation. From one Bowie album to the next you’ll get a different style of Bowie
Bowie always seemed to be just ahead of the next music trend. A master of reinventing his persona & music to be current with the times. Also , while he was a decent guitar player , that is none other than the legendary Stevie Ray Vaughan playing the solo at the end of this song. He was invited to tour with Bowie for this album but declined to instead tour & promote his debut album Texas Flood. Thank god he made that choice !
I went to the 'Serious Moonlight' Tour when it hit London, there will never ever be anyone like Bowie, still can't believe he's gone but feel privileged to have been in the world at the same time as this man...RIP David.. x
I have never seen him in concert, but I have a Serious Moonlight tour book. I have been a Bowie fan since first I heard the Heroes album. Heroes is still my favorite Bowie song.
The mastermind of the great Nile Rodgers on production ( Chic, Sister Sledge, Madonna, Duran Duran and Bowie to name a few) for the best 80s pop anthems!
Cousin, your delightful innocence is one of your most appealing traits, and I truly enjoy it. Other reaction sites claim not to have researched songs, but obviously have, so I now only watch you, as you offer that refreshing naïvité each time. Bowie here was focussed on the plight of aboriginal Australians, which at the time he sang this was finally becoming an issue of shared shame in that country.
David Bowie re-invented himself, his sound, his look and his life so many times. His message is be you. And these styles lived in David. I was a freshman in high school with Ziggy Stardust photo in my locker. Fifty years later he still touches that place ... just be YOU.
Bowieeeeee!!! And Nile Rodgers! Now I’m at the part where you’re talking about Bowie’s style. He had so many. He re-created himself over and over and over. There are several articles that talk about how he influenced more genres of music than any other artist. Icon!!
We went to Alice Springs for the video. It was ridiculously hot. Like 40 celsius. Also Brisbane and the Marshall Islands. Actually the same week we shot China Girl. I don't remember SRV having any part of the recording, he was there for China Girl tho obviously. David wasn't super confident about his own playing at that time, so Stevie was maybe brought in later. The initial takes for that solo were Carlos Alomar. Then David and I did a simpler version which apparently was copied by SRV. David did more of his guitar parts than he's credited with.
I remember my very first job interview as a secretary was for David’s personal management company. I recognized the artwork on the door before I entered. (I can’t recall the name, but I’m pretty sure it was on 7th Ave - possibly 810 7th - as I worked for another company in that building a few years later). I recall the gentleman I interviewed with telling me that it was a “one-girl office”, and I’d be responsible for stocking the penthouse whenever David was in town. I was young and a bit starstruck. Before I left, the gentleman offered me albums to take with me, but every one he offered I already had. 🤣 But it’s a day I’ll never forget. I just wish he’d been in town so I could’ve met him. (Who am I kidding? I would’ve turned to jelly. 🤣) *sigh*
@@Jillyconjem Like, word! So cool. I would have been jelly also, I was jelly when I saw him. We all were. He had a silk suit, Panama hat, blond, just like the video. Oh my...
@@DawnSuttonfabfour He was a beautiful man with amazing creativity. I so wish I’d seen him perform. But anxiety is a real participation/activity killer. 🤷🏼♀️ But what a beautiful man in every way. *sigh*
His style is David Bowie style! One of the great chameleons of music. He aspired to change style and persona with every album he would put out. React to 'Life On Mars' please and thank you. Sending good vibes from Ireland 🇮🇪
GOD I LOVE BOWIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! .. HOPE YOU REACT TI HIS SONG S MODERN LOVE AND BLUE JEAN ...GREAT SONGS ... AND T O GO FURTHER BACK I HOPE YOU REACT TO GOLDEN YEARS!!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH JAY!!!!!!!!!!!!
"Put on your red shoes and dance the blues...."......hell, yes.........video was shot in Australia (early scene in pub was in Outback, a small town called Carinda)..........Stevie Ray Vaughan contributes some mighty fine guitar licks throughout.....Thanks for posting!!!!!
@@meganwilliams2962 Me too. He is spellbinding in The Man Who Fell to Earth. The sense of loss and alienation in his character is palpable and that vacant look on his face throughout...though I don’t think he was acting it! He famously said he couldn’t remember actually making the film, having been in the grips of his addiction. So beautiful, nevertheless.
Loved all his music 70s, 80s and 90s. David Bowie was always good at reinventing himself. "Jump they say" has a sax solo on it or china girl is also worth a listen.
One guy who is so good, his on a different planet, first heard him age 7 in 1969! Just incredible! Please listen to the diamond Dogs album Jovaughn it’s too good for words.
Bowie was a globally adored musical icon with a huge catalogue of amazing music running over 4 decades and something like 27 studio albums alone. He loved reinventing himself and did so over and over. He was a groundbreaking artist and genius. I seriously recommend this rabbit hole ❤ I think you'd love 'Heroes' (amongst about 100 others 🤩)
If I remember correctly China Girl and Modern Love were on this record too. All good songs. Hope u get a chance to check them out. Thanks for another great pick!
Back when he was the "White Duke", so much class and funk, love me some David Bowie since i was a kid back in the 80's and he was the Goblin King, you can't put him in a category, he's just magic and i miss him.
One of my favourite Bowie songs. His voice is SO beautiful. His voice is wonderful, anyway, but in this song, it's wonderful!!! "Put on your red shoes and dance the blues." and the beautiful line, "Because my love for you would break my heart in two." I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for uploading. I don't know if you've heard it, or if you've done another vid on it, but "HEROES" is wonderful as well.
He turned up in an Australian outback pub to film this much to the surprise of locals. Then had them throughout the clip which was also filmed in Sydney & Blue Mountains. He lived Australia lived here for years anonymously.
David Bowie was like a chameleon, he wasn't the same persona for too long. There were so many sides to him to explore. This song was a huge hit and I totally remember dancing to this song at the clubs. Growing up with David Bowie's music of the 70s and 80s, when David Bowie passed away, I cried like a baby. It felt like a part of my life passed with him. I was so sad. Very few celebrities affect me that way but, David Bowie was definitely a special soul. Check out his interviews with MTV when he calls out racism in America, even in music, and really just lays it out there as the host struggles to explain it.
Nile Rodgers working his musical magic. If you ever get a chance to see him play live with his band Chic, there's a huge chance you'll be blown away by them playing this live.
Was my dad's fave song, mine too, love love love the beats, you can't help but dance to it. Other ones I love of his are Heroes, Starman, China girl & from his movie Labyrinth a song called "Magic Dance" all awesome songs. 😎👌🎵
The 80's were such good years for music! He had many styles over the years. This song brings back such beautiful memories of my early 20's. Music Videos were the "new thing", and we'd be in the clubs at least once a week! God, to be that young again *sigh*
Everything by Bowie is phenomenal. I recommend Suffragette City, I'm Afraid of Americans, or Starman. He also did some of the best collaborative work out there. I'm Afraid of Americans is with Trent Reznor. Dancing In The Street is with Mick Jagger. Bowie was a musical genius and a rock god. He is missed daily.
I got bit by the Bowie bug back in the early '70's & it was always exciting to experience each new album of his when they came out. Each one took me on a different journey & yet each time the ride seemed very personal, like he was taking my hand & leading the way. He stayed with me all through the challenges of my life & his passing was a loss I can't describe. It thrills me to see younger people discovering his music to this day. I hope & pray he still affects people with the incredible gift he has left behind in his music.
Every album showed a different side of Bowie. Such a fantastic artist. 💜 I saw him perform at Dodger Stadium. Magic!! My mother in law actually told him to piss off in a London pub when he tried to talk to her in his early days. 🙀
This is one of my favorite David Bowie songs. It never gets old. I love the video too. He was so handsome and his voice is amazing! He’s in Australia in this video. ❤️
David Bowie/Putting Out Fire (With Gasoline) There are three versions of this song by David Please pick the original version from the soundtrack of the motion picture Cat People. The soundtrack was scored and musically performed by the great Georgia Moroder, with David Bowie on vocals for two songs on the album. Very underrated as soundtracks go. He is best known for being instrumental in the majority of big hits by the late, great Donna Summer.
I envy you hearing these for the first time. I remember what it was like for me, and watching your videos helps recapture those moments. China Girl next! Thanks man!
I have been blessed to have seen David Bowie 3 times in Canada!! His last tour in Ottawa he had a suprise guest appearance by Peter Frampton!!! Blew everyone away!!! Love this tune Jay!! Shouts out from Nelly in Toronto Ontario Peace and Love Man
