I actually feel bad for all the people who gets doxxed, its actually disgusting and discord does nothing about it. Now i know its not discord's fault for people just giving out their information but same cant be said for the newcomers who doesn't have any idea about these stuff overall.

as an ex-cringe doxxer kid a tip to keep your information safe is to use different usernames, doxxers go off usernames most of the time and if they keep turning up with nothing else attached to that username they will have a hissyfit and quit trying, also try using a commonish word as your username like for example I use "Njord" its a norse god and if anyone tries to look for my profile they will just be educated on norse mythology

Being mindful of the information you reveal online is incredibly important. Obviously, don't put your full name in your username and don't link accounts with your name. +1 to all of what NTTS said on this. Being careful about the little things you reveal is the important takeaway for most people imo. Stuff like first name, age. Maybe mentioning where you go to school or something, or even just local events you "live near". Even if you're "not afraid of harassment on social media", malicious actors knowing where your address is TERRIFYING. If you're worried, start small. Try googling yourself! Username, username and first name, etc. ask a trusted friend (an irl friend please dear god) to try to find information on you based on your profile and what you've shared online! I had a friend do this and I was able to eliminate a connection between my full name and my parent's address. Something as simple as a google search for your username and first name can help you find problematic connections. Stay safe everyone.

I work a side job doing photography, so information is pretty much out there because of governmental requirements. Mainly aim to just not do anything that can fire back at me, doxxing is really bad still and should never be a thing, always inform the local authorities if you have been. STORYTIME ! ⚠) I was in a server (not too proud of it bcz of what they did) , and it was supposed to be a 'professional' server with all the proper staff and moderation. they had their own pros and cons, but the thing i want to highlight is that one specific event that made me feel disgusted and leave that server for good. [I am NOT going to reveal the server name or the ppl in there bcz of their privacy.] I applied to be one of the staff there and got 'accepted' as the 'trial staff'. the owner was nice to me at start but never appreciated the stuff i did for the server. I made friends with another staff there and after few weeks, i noticed sudden increase in the server but my friend was resigning as the staff (they had been a staff since the beginning of that server.) and they told me to do the same. i asked the reason (because the 'staff server' was only for the ppl who were 'staff' and not 'trial staff') and it was because the owner of the server DOXXED one of their own friend (co owner) because 'they were creating conflicts and arguing with the owner.' + the co owner was right in this case and had valid opinions and opposed the bad decisions of the owner. Not only that, in their staff only server, the owner was PROUD of the doxxing they did and were cursing at the co owner and all with other members cheering for the same. Doxxing is something you shouldn't be PROUD of. you are stealing someone's private info without their knowledge. please report people who do it and be careful yourself too to never attempt this disgusting act. Let's make sure that everyone's discord experience remains a happy one!

If they got your public IP, it's okay. It's mostly a lot of miles away from you. Once they know what city you live in, that's when you should start getting worried. When they get your full address AND city, then you gotta call the authorities.

A group of players tried to dox me one time over discord because they had a vendetta against me. Fortunately due to the volume of reports I sent discord actually responded and a few months later a majority of the users accounts had either been suspended or deleted.

In discord profile connections, Steam is one that could be used. Someone could join the server, scan the members for profile connections, and if a Steam connection is found, then they can attempt a Steam scam like the "accidentally reported you" one and probably all the other ones.

Discord needs to make it against TOS to provide such identifying information like a drivers license. I've seen too many servers on power trips demanding that users send drivers license or passport verification of identity. There is a reason why no website will ask you for this, why would a server owner need to? The excuse of 'age verification' doesn't fly because no website or program, no matter the 'content', actually verifies your age except for gambling applications.

I used to fake all my info on social media, I faked my age, my nationality, my location, etc. Literally all my info on social media was fake, but then in the recent past I felt guilty for doing that, so I decided to change completely, I left social media for some time, returned back after some time but this time with my real identity, real name, real age, real location, real nationality, etc. Everything was crystal clear and genuine, I never hid anything from anyone, the only thing people did not know was what I looked like, and my address. that's it. they knew my general location though, although thankfully (phew!) nothing bad has happened till now and I 've mostly stopped using social media, after watching your videos I've realized that I was better off faking my personality online than being "genuine".

My friends and I all had our cameras on together, and just from the shirt I was wearing they were smart enough to look up the text and found my address, phone number, and family names (because my family works at the website they were brought to when they looked it up.) Now im threatened many times every single day if I don't comply with what they ask. This has been happening for a couple months now. I never realized before how a friend could change so much of my life. They have already leaked everything to multiple servers when I didn't want to play a game with them. I have been spam called, my parents yell at me for it, and people have showed up at my house. There is not much to do about it.

My ISP usually hides the location of the IPs by showing the location of their headquarters which isn't even close to where i live.

Did that mistake by connecting, uhhh, Facebook account to my discord years ago... I haven't been doxxed, but a random discord user calling me by my full name wasn't the best moment of my life. Since then I removed everything that showed my personal info.

This was a very insightful video. I try to be conscious of if what I say could be used to doxx me (actually not an much of a conscious effort as an anxious over worrying problem) but I did take a minute to delete some messages in some servers that were a bit revealing of personal information.

True i got blackmailed for ownership on one of my servers with my ip and remember being so scared and shaking and everything... luckily nothing else happened, but i can imagine how it must feel to actually get your information posted to the public...

i remember when i used to kinda flip accounts from some platform and one day one guy dm'd me if he wants to flip (steal accounts) with me together. I said okay. Few days after that when (he thought) we've became strong friends, he told me a method to "steal" someone's account just by using their profile picture. He said that I need to go to inspector and download a file from that profile picture then send it to him so he can "deobfuscate" it. I downloaded that file from profile picture but before sending him, I looked inside. Instead of the other person's data the file was full of my usernames, IDs, IP, name, etc.. and i was like "lmao he thought i was going to fall for it". Another time happend when my friend got hacked and someone from his account sent me a link with message that he is creating a game and he wants to test it a bit. I asked him few questions like "is this a virus" etc.. and it extremely raised my suspicions becuase ik that most if not all of my friends are starting a message in a different way and they would never send me something like "hey i made a game and i need someone to test it (link)". I carefully downloaded that file while making sure nothing would open. I opened the file in VSC and i was literally 💀when i saw the code. It was literally just AIO virus lmao. Token grabber, keylogger, etc.. I stopped trusting anyone after my multiple scam incident when I was a kid lol. I felt for lots of scams and ESPECIALLY the teamspeak3 ones where you could just join a bot on a random server and send legit looking scam messages to everyone that like they won a rank in that server. And when you join that server, they have your IP because TS3 server owners can see your IP which is just goofy 💀

Even if i was doxxed i would have enough time to run away and start a new life as a french citizen in Paris.

about the one where they become your friend, one of my friends went through a situation like that, however because they were such a careful person they never kept any data that could be used against them on their PC, and only in notes which he kept, he would even log out of RU-vid every single time he watched it. So they were only able to steal an old Roblox alt and like two dollars from a failed Roblox group we had made a few years back I am glad I had such a careful friend who always tried to teach me to be more careful.

Also, a good tip is making using a false name and picture everywhere, and, by exemple, using an inexistant number of your street. So that it's coherent information but not actually true

Before I watch the video, something "funny" that happened to me a year or two ago on Discord. My friend asked me if they could log into my account (Now, while most people wouldn't, and shouldn't do this, I did accept, they are a very very trusted friend of mine who I know very well.), I told them yes and they tried logging in, since the had never logged into my account obviously, Discord sent me an email to verify it's me, but the thing is, when Discord sends this email, there's some additional information, including IP Address. So I got the email, told them I had their Ip Address and they.. Didn't care because it turned out they were at a friends house LMAO So I just have that email sitting there and I have their friend's Ip address

Sometimes you can't even know where the person exactly is by IP, you need to contact the provider for that and they will never give you.

Discord can be a really toxic place. Back in 2020 when I was 15, I joined a Discord server a Minecraft RU-vidr had advertised, which had a pretty large NSFW section. Being a hormonal teenager who did not know any better I was lured into it and they pushed me to do pretty questionable things, despite knowing I very well shouldn't have been in there as a 15 year old. When they were done, they spread rumors of ME being a... p*do and would blackmail me into doing more stuff with the threat of reporting me to Discord T&S as I was underage being in 18+ NSFW channels. These people are very highly ranked and respected in the Minecraft community, so everyone would take their word at face value and believe them with absolutely no proof. I've been harassed and threatened by numerous people ever since then, kicked out of communities and anyone who dares to think otherwise gets targetted as well. While I'm not doxed (yet), people have still been able to dig up some pretty obscure details in an attempt to. They managed to figure out the school I go to but my school has strict policies about student privacy so they're obviously not gonna leak any of my information that way. It is scary what people can be made to do, and the lengths people to do try to hurt someone on the internet. For someone reading this, I can't stress how important it is to **never make any single mention of your real identity** for an online identity you use in a toxic or hostile community, and even put out red herrings. Use a pseudonym, pretend you live in a slightly different part of town (one you know slightly about, but do not actually live in), accidentally leak fake details, anything to get people off the trail because **sooner or later you will fail your OpSec** (because you're human) and if people can't tell apart red herrings from an actual lapse in your OpSec, that's perfect. I was lucky enough to have practiced much of this beforehand (being taught at an early age to stay as close to anonymous on the internet), but being targetted really made me take it more seriously and . If anyone reads this, thanks. I'm well past the point of wanting revenge or justice, honestly I just want to be left the fuck alone.

To add into this scare there are websites that list everyone who's lived in a certain house at any point in time how many lived there ect ect. So not only will it snitch your fully name but also your address so if your just giving away your mother's or fathers name freely you could be quick to finding someone on your door step

I got doxxed by sending them a video of myself spelling their username for an alleged prize (they made me think it was a contest) and they sent it in a server that i was it (which was allegedly the one where all of the contestants were) and they spammed me and mocked me and insulted me, and now im scared for my life and i do not know what to do.

A long time ago, a friend of mine sent a weird looking link. It was very short and i didn't click it at all. After a bit i got added into a groupchat, some guy was sending random e-mails like they were mine, he said he had my ip etc. I talked to him and i told him and explained to him it's literally useless to do this type of stuff. Hope that guy is a better person now. (This was all on discord by the way)

What I like to do is lie, pretend to have different jobs, talk about the weather like I live in an area I don't, and other things like that. Mainly because I know that if I stayed perfectly truthful and had any sort of presence online, somebody would eventually be able to connect the dots. But since I lie about alot of stuff, suddenly it's not just connecting the dots, it's figuring out which dots are good, and which are red herrings. Even if you could theoretically figure out the pattern to tell which one is which, it'd be so much more effort that it wouldn't be worth it for anyone without a personal grudge. And since I tend to lurk basically everywhere, that probably won't be an issue.

regarding sending someone a file like an image for example: even if its not an embedded link its possible to include a tiny piece of custom code in the file that every time you access the file will log the same data and send it to the person making the file with the info that you have accessed said file. imagine it like a server log that logs every time you did a certain acction but instead of the server managing the log it would be the client telling the server to add it to the server log. not entirely accurate analogy but should be close enough for anyone who is able to understand what im talking about. so technically speaking any time your send any file no matter if embedded or not you have to evaluate first if you trust the user not to do that or know if they are capable of doing it, then you would have to evaluate if it is possible they might have done that or would do it if they would do it to you. which means you should actually open next to no files at all because any of them could have said tiny code that doxes data that the person posting it wants about you. only vaguely related but especially since multiple occurances in the past have proven that discord doesnt check the files you can upload if they are secure or not as long as they dont attempt to attack discord it self and that files can manipulate the discord client(for example the short wave of video files that when played modefied the media player randomly). In theory this could be used to inject code in to the discord client that would instruct the client to grab data it can access about the system its running on and therefore by exxtend could get your IP or other sensitive info that could be used to gather more info about you or dox you. Discord really isnt a place where you can just randomly do things unless you propperly sandbox the client in a vm or something comparable that will prevent any serious issues if the client gets inffected and you use a vpn to protect data that can be grabbed outside of your system. this is not an extensive list and you should have and use probably a bunch more different kind of tools that protect specific types of data that you generate or own or replace these with other data that is fine if the person gets it. for example while not ideal if the attacker knows what vpn your use, exposing the IP of your VPN server is by far better then exposing your router IP or your PC IP. These days unfortunatly you cant use any software at all that connects to the outside or has the capability of connecting to the outside/generating code that has the capability to do so, which is almost all data that uses or interacts with the internet in any way. so you have to use these tools basically always at all times if you have an internet connection to make sure even if you cant know if a software is attempting to harm or expose you, that you can at least be sure that the person attempting to attack you cant get this data or it will be unusable data. Once you realise how bad the situation actually is and yes im aware it makes me sound very paranoid, you will find your self a rabit hile that goes far deeper then what i just said here.
