It's always easier to click with people who share commonalities, especially languages and cultures. However, I've never had an issue with feeling welcomed in Portugal, just my personal experience.

It could be down to the environment, the type of people, and possibly an aspect of the culture. They all spoke perfect English, and whenever there was a girl who came over from our UK branch, all the guys spent a lot of time chatting with her, especially the office was majority male workers (and she only spoke English). So I know it's not an issue with me not knowing the Portuguese language then. It's hard to say what is the real reason or if it's just one reason. But I think the aspect of being territorial about the tribe you feel part of (just so you maintain your social status within the tribe) certainly is something that exists in a lot of people's behavior. We're social animals after all, and being part of a social circle, and having a sense of belonging is innate to our survival. It goes back to the tribal aspect that made us survive as humans. Hence why we sometimes act overprotective over our own social circle.

the witcher is seriers of books that are famous in Poland and got adopted into three games that are incredibaly famous around the world also a netflix series on the way due to the games being a smash hit and the books also being a great read ( and that necklace he has on is the same one that the main character has my profile pic is that guy)
