The first Cassie Weiland piece I heard was Hymn, a gorgeous work written for Vicky Chow. I was hooked from essentially the first chord. So when I began commissioning new marimba pieces, Cassie was an obvious choice, as I knew she would write something beautiful. As expected, she did exactly that with “you left your shadow.”
This is most of the piece, as my poor audio engineering skills would certainly not do justice to the beginning. I’m looking forward to recording it in its entirety soon.
In regards to the piece, Cassie wrote “You left your shadow is about remembering a person / in the remnants that they leave behind”
I will also use this video as a reminder to check that my entire head is in the frame.
