A soldier must be prepared for any kind of situation and must always be able to adapt to their environment. Part of being able to adapt is having the right tools and supplies. The US military heavily equips their soldiers with advanced weapons, tactical gear, protective armor, and backpacks. What exactly do soldiers keep in their backpacks full of survival gear? In Vietnam I was the M79 grenadier, we were only out for short search and destroy missions, for 3 to 4 days, I carried 8 to 10 hand grenades, 35 to 40 grenade rounds for my M79, a belt of rounds for the M60 machine guns, then 4 or5 magazines for our m16,s also flares, food rations, 2 to 4 cantines, poncho, 4 blocks of C4 to blow bunkers ,other minor items, weights about 60+ pounds,

Nah, for Baghdad patrols we had in our packs: A jacket; a single night-observation device per guy; a regular MRE; sometimes MOPP gear if there was a suspicion of need; a bit of extra ammo; and lots of batteries. Small squad radios and first aid kits were strapped to our vests. Humvees and tracks carried more of all the same. Squad leadership would have mission-specific commo and intel printouts if we were looking for anything in particular. Not much high-tech super James Bond type gear, at least back then.

I am a US Army Veteran. 10th Mountain Infantry Division 2nd Brigade. 1st off, they aren’t called tactical backpacks, they are called rucksacks. I was an 11C(mortar man) my ruck weighed around 110-140 pounds, depending on the mission. You’re not wrong about how those MRE’s taste but there’s a lot more that you didn’t mention.

I always carry at least 40 claymores with me at all times. The most I've ever needed to use at one time is 15, but you should always be ready.

Dont think every soldier in the world is gonna be carrying same equipment btw, this video makes it bit too oversimplified. Different kinds of armies use different kinds of warfare tactics and use different gear depending on those tactics.

normally the army use plce webbing or regular mtp webbing or chest rigs and the backpacks are normally called Daysacks or Field Packs. Larger bags are known as Bergens but normally soldiers only bring webbing for their rations and water and other utilities they need and oftenly carry 4 or more magazines unless you are travelling by an APC which then soldiers carry ammo boxes which are normally filled with 5.56 since thats what most militaries use for their weapon systems. Also NVG mounts normally have a certain pouch on webbing. Not to mention the helmets they wear are normally layered with small amounts of kevlar unless you are wearing a helmet with less weight so you wouldnt normally have damage done to your forehead.

In my bergin i have Top flap - ponch with bungie's and pegs Under flap - order books Main compartment - sleeping bag in its bivie bag, roll mat, change of uniform and my grab bag. L/ side pouch - wash shave kit, underwear, socks, foot power and boot polish. R/ side pouch - some warm kit, gore tex, coms cord, cylumes, and small engineer tools. Small front pouch - some rations Grab bag - spare ammo, some more warm kit, a pair of socks survival kit and any other fighting or engineer depending of requirements.

As you obliterate the evil enemy and serve sweet American freedom to the oppressed, doctors and nurses back home are running around the hospitals with trash bags for PPEs. As you wind up the tremendously successful mission, you get orders to head back immediately to your home town with the armoured vehicles as protests against racist killer cops are turning violent and some people are even using the chaos to loot and destroy stores all around. 😔
