People tend to forget Africa is not just black people, and it’s a very diverse country. As a Nigerian, I’ve seen plenty of Africans from different countries and it’s totally normal. I’ve had Egyptian friends and I still call them my brothers and sisters because we are all African at the end of the day
Africa is the most diverse continent in the world. Africa has many different languages, landscapes and people. I’m from South Africa and in South Africa alone it’s already extremely diverse. We have black Africans with many(and I mean many) different ethnic groups. Then we have white africans(they are African don’t argue that.) who have their own unique African culture. Then we have the Cape Coloureds/Coloureds (which I’m part of) we have the most mixed ancestry in the world. Then we have Indian South Africans they are also the largest population of Indians outside of India. Then you also get different Asians eg, Chinese, Taiwanese, Japanese and Korean, etc. Then we have the Cape Malay’s they similar to us coloureds but very different culturally. Then South African has 11 official languages but I think it’s 12 now. So yes us Africans also come in different shades, basically the more north u go the lighter the people are. People in the middle(which is near the equator) are on the darker side. Then the more south you go people are lighter then people in the middle. In southern African countries the temperature is colder. Example here in South Africa in winter the temperature ranges from -2C to 26C. In Western Cape it snows almost every year on the mountains during winter. So yes it’s very diverse. I don’t know why people are telling people who are born and raised in Africa that they are not African just because of their skin colour.
Idk if you've been to europe or america but you'd be surprised how diversed they are, red,,blonde hair (rare in africa), blue and green eyes, and there's a lot of african descendants in europe and asian descendants so you really can't say that Africa is the most diversed continent when almost no one immigrates there (due to wars and safety issues)
@@pxrplehairgirl5030 We still have different hair colours and the eye colours are quite common here too. Also we have most diverse skin colours compared to europeans
@@pxrplehairgirl5030 if u search which continent is the most diverse you would see it’s Africa. Plus we do have blonde blue and greened eyed people too. I’m part of a group called Cape Coloureds and we have the most mixed ancestry in the world. Now most coloured people are brown skinned and I’ve seen a lot of coloureds who have naturally blonde hair or red hair(red hair is much more rare though. I had a friend who was a natural red head and she’s a coloured) and coloured people have different coloured eyes. Africa is the most diverse continent.
I think this is a good opportunity to give clarifications about the ethnicity of North Africans: the native people of North Africa are called "Amazigh". The Amazigh land called "Tamazgha" covers the area from the top west of Morocco to the bottom east of Libya. It includes many ethnic groups including black people, however the amazigh of the north coast are "naturally" light skinned, as you have to remember we are mediterraneans: like Italy, Greece, Malta, etc. In fact, Maltese is very similar to the North African dialect, which is a dialect based off of Arabic, French, Spanish and the native Amazigh language. This mix is a reason of the many colonizations: Romans, Arabs, Ottomans then Europeans. DNA tests in the north usually show ~50-70% amazigh blood, ~10-20% from sub-saharan africa or arab, and the rest is usually a mix of turkish and european, but it depends on the person as you can even see people who would pass for asian, one white sibling/one brown sibling etc. The further south you go the darker the skin. Many people who are considered black abroad are just considered "brunette", and people with brown hair and light skin are considered "blonde". So yes, we are very much Africans and proud to be ♥
actually the native there are mostly tanned skin with dark hair, these are the norms there, anyone there blonde or with colored eyes then definately mixed race due to past europe colonisation .
@finam3681 that's not true. I agree that most Amazigh are brown, just like the Arabs or southern Italians but there are plenty of pureblooded Amazigh who have no additive what so ever European or otherwise who are blond/ green eyed naturaly. Just look up the Kabylie for example. I would know. I'm Algerian myself. I'm not Kabylie but we have alot of blonds in my family. When I did a DNA test in 23&me, it came back only 5% European. No great surprise really.
africa has been so stereotyped on appearance. im moroccan just like her, and all my life people would tell me ¨you dont look african¨ or ¨people from morocco dont look like africans¨ thats because our diversity has endless limits. im so glad moroccans and north africans aswell are being more understood

If they are talking about people who identify themselves as arab, then yes, they are right. The arabs or anyone identifying as arab is not African by definition. In North Africa, the Imazighen, the Tebu, the Nubians and the descendants of the ancient Egyptians are Africans. The arabs are native to the middle east and are not African.
This video is proof that the world still has so much to learn about Africa. As an African American part of the diaspora I don’t know much about my roots either but from what I’ve learned it’s much more diverse than people tend to think

Indigenous North Africans aren’t white. They are mixed. In Africa, people don’t use “white” or “black” labels anyway. They actually have specific ethnicities. Besides, even amongst black Africans, there is huge feature variations. It’s just that all those groups are not represented in the media. As an east African person, it’s super annoying when people show just west Africans.

I think people in Africa can't disconnect race from continent. Every continent on earth has multiple ethnic groups. Mexicans are North American, so are Canadians. Indians are Asians, so are Chinese. Nigerians are African, so are Moroccans. Not that difficult of a concept.
It’s not us Africans that can’t disconnect the race from our continent it’s the rest of the world, they are so uneducated on Africa. Every country in Africa has many ethnicities/tribes. So for example just being nigerian isn’t even an ethnicity really because you could be Yoruba or Igbo or from some other ethnic group.
Just adding on to the other replies, it's not us Africans, it's mostly non-Africans. We've always been aware of the racial diversity on our continent. We didn't even class "black" as an ethnic group because we have our many different tribes (ethnic groups) in each country
