Is even worst when you know that the world has been run by men, medicine and psychology were areas considered to be for men, so the lack of care towards men is a manly creation. Women were considered to be weak of mind so the ended up in phyc hospitals after crisis (trauma and abuse, they were primarily there to be hidden). So isn't time for men to step up and take care of each other? Feminism what it did is give help to women, men should rise from old dogmas and care for each other as women had too
"You look like a good Joe", is the exact same thing Joi said to him. He wanted to believe Joi was different somehow, that she was special, but he despairs when he realizes they're all the same.

I think at that time it's another contributor to him wondering if he's also the same; just another replicant, just another JOI? But what's so beautiful is that his JOI is indeed different, and so is K. In their own bizarre state of circumstances and being, they were perfect for one another. What is human? What is identity? They're both as human - or more - than any of us. Film is a masterpiece.
The way that they make it seem like she's real by talking to him comforting telling that she can help him is sad when you realize that it's just a company trying to sell their product. Riping away the feeling that someone who actually cares about them and wants them to feel better exists

In case some of you still didn't get it: K loves Joi. Joi - seemingly - is a very special Al hologram that developed real love for K in return. After Joi's "death", K is devastated. But the scene with the Joi-ad reveals, that the name she gave him, Joe, is nothing special at all. He just wasn't aware that it is the preprogrammed default name. She wasn't really sentient, she wasn't feeling real emotions, she was just a very clever acting Al. They show his realization of that by his glance, how he looks downwards then and how, seemingly by coincidence, the color on his face changes from a bright red to a dark, cold blue (not shown in this edit). It is one thing to lose the love you had. It is another thing to understand you've never really been loved in the first place. K is the DEFINITION of the phrase "man who lost all hope loses additional hope he didn't even know he still had".
Her voice is so soothing when she says "I can fix that". Makes me waana crawl up into her arms and just cry it all out. No more, no less, just have a good cry.

Your feelings are just as valid and important as that of women's and you deserve to be able to express that. I'm so sorry for you all. You're very strong people. This scene shows that - yes, Joe was a programmed name, the initial dialogue was programmed, but she chose to become mortal, she chose to die to save him. K is "built" to specification just like her. He is just as unreal as her. "The most human thing we can do, is die for a cause."

Maybe I am reading too much into this, but even the name "Joe" is one of the most common male names. I like to think they chose "Joe" when writing this movie not just because it is a common name, but also because of the place holder name, John Doe (a name so common to represent "a nobody" in writing), when combined... results in "Joe". Just... Joe.

He's not even the main character in his own story. Just a normal Joe who will never find resolution. Trapped in a dystopian loop where he can't live or die.
Be careful man. Staying alone for too much can be a problem: you become less tolerant for the other sex with time, and realize you don't want to make any compromise because you become acquainted with what you already have. At that point you think you are happy, but there's always that one feeling: something is missing. The more time passes, the less likely you are going to have a chance with who you like because you don't get familiar to how you should act around your "interests". I have been single for 4 years before trying with my second "girlfriend". I screwed up and she left me after only 3 months because i was not going slowly. Don't make my mistake man: try to meet new people and you'll eventually find the One... don't rush it, but don't deny yourself this chance.

After a long and bad breakup I have today decided I will let her go. She was perfect in every way, from the body, to the face, to the eyes, to her character, to her work, to her life. She didn't give me the love I needed. She said she will work on herself but I waited 6 weeks, and now I have just decided that I can't live like this anymore. I almost never cry. Seeing this scene triggered something in me and I just started bawling my eyes out for the last 10 minutes. Don't care for me, we are men and we have to stay strong, after all the world keeps spinning.

That's just wrong buddy. Perfection is a lie. It's stagnant boring and unobtainable. Everything has a flaw. You don't have to stay strong all the time. That shit is miserable. It's ok to feel weak sometimes and feel the weight of the world. All that matters is you don't let it crush you and you push back.
Dude, sorry for you. It happens to us all. You will remember this and it will steel you to the future. Stay single for awhile, hit the gym, learn to feel normal again. Good luck.
Haha yeah it’s been a long time. Met a new girl a month ago and she makes me forget all the bad things. I got over my ex, she seemed perfect at that time but that was just me being blinded by love. The new girl makes me happy and shows me things I never even knew i wanted and loved.
Worry not, my friends. This loneliness will only persist so long as you may persist it. The very moment when you realize your life is worth meaning, you will step forward with that very meaning, and no longer need of us. Whatever listless quandry of thoughts given form you can infer.
I was watching this video and other related videos obsessively 5 months ago. I changed it by taking action in my life by setting very small achievable goals and still getting back up when I fell down. "Every day it gets a bit easier, but I have to do it every day, that's the hard part." That's the video I watch more often now. Self pity got me nowhere, except right back to self-pity. And that's not where I want to stay. Stay strong brothers, get back up
It's over 2.5 hours long and when it's over you'll wish it was longer. This is 100% Ryan Gosling's movie he will be remembered for. It's the epitome of art that showcases human brutality, society's perception of people that are different and the loneliness that men in particular have to go through when they have nobody in their life that truly cares. It resonates with men so well because it's a reality that most of us live.
I just rewatched the movie and was SO dissatisfied when After Dark didn’t start playing 😭 I completely forgot that it was an edit and not actually in the film…
Thats the moment he realises everything he had, he was, he is, is fake. Deriving meaning and purpose in an empty and vapid world where the only real purpose he can give himself is to let a father reunite with his daughter. At least that would be real, unlike everything else.

Loneliness, a constant companion by my side, In the depths of longing, where my heart resides. Aching for warmth, for a touch, for a voice, Seeking solace, in a world where I have no choice. The bustling streets, filled with faces unknown, Each passing moment, a reminder I'm on my own. The laughter and chatter, a distant melody, Leaving me adrift, longing for company. The stars above, distant and cold, Like fragments of hope I cannot hold. I wander through the night, a solitary soul, Seeking solace in the emptiness that takes its toll. But amidst the solitude, a spark of light, A realization that loneliness does not define my plight. For within me, a strength begins to grow, To embrace my existence, to let my spirit show. I find solace in solitude's gentle embrace, Discovering beauty in each moment's grace. In the depths of my being, a world unfolds, With creativity and dreams waiting to be told. Loneliness may linger, but it does not define, The essence of my being, my soul's design. For within this existence, a purpose I'll find, In the depths of my loneliness, strength will bind.

when you think about it, joi was more human to him than any real human could have ever be K's joi was programmed to be whatever he wanted her to be even though he was aware that everything she says was not filled with the desired emotions he wanted to feel! it felt like he tried to make her sentient with his present but was brought back to reality during the voice message! but when he was being chased she offered to come with him but in order to do so he needed to destroy the antenna in the emenator so the company doesn't know where she is! she shouldn't have that kind of thinking in her program to actually make that offer other than there actually was some kind of sentience in her! i don't know if i'm reading too much into it but that's my headcanon
Any AI that shouts "I love you!" when faced with its imminent own destruction at the hands of a psychotic android of the same company is fine in my book.
I dont believe the "they were all the same" theory, and here is why. Both Joi and K were made to be servants and a great chunk of both character's development is that they are progressively breaking free of their originao design/purpose. In my perspective, this scene has much more to it than the simple view others adopt. In the scene, he sees the vanilla version of a generic Joi displaying generic behaviour. In this scene, he can compare the Joi he just lost to the generic Joi. Also in this scene, he ponders over the death and humanity speech. And Joi made the same decision he is about to make, she chose to be able to die because in her own sense it was "just like a real girl", and her telling K to make her mortal is definitely something out of the script of things he wants to hear. Outside of Blade Runner, mortality has been a recurring theme of how to differentiate a machine from a human, and in the end Joi adopted as many actions as she could to be as human as she could and, in a sense, break free from her cage. K ponders about death and humanity in this very scene while reminiscing of Joi. I believe in this moment he realizes she wasn't just like the generic version in front of him and realizes he can break free from the mold just like her... Leading to his final actions.
I can’t say I agree that Joi wanted to break free of her purpose. Joi’s design goal is to be the perfect companion, she wanted to be like a “real girl” because it would draw her and K closer, not because she was gaining free will. K was becoming more human, and Joi simulated human behaviour to mirror him. But it was fundamentally still a programming move, not a human move. The thing with Joi is that she was highly customized to K specifically, like a browsing algorithm on your phone that remembers all your interest. In this scene K meets with the “default” Joi, and it’s a reminder of what his Joi was like when he first got her, and by an extension a reminder of how far they got as a couple. They had times together that cannot be re-created, and so her death is truly *permanent* . TLDR: I think all Joi’s START the same, but considering their ability to grow closer via shared-experiences, K realizes that no Joi can replace the one he lost.
Yeah, but to me is the big difference is that one was designed to literally tell him exactly what he wanted to hear at all times. It read the mood and assessed every situation. And it said whatever was needed to be said at that moment to seem real. Where K was a factory made living being. He eats, he drinks, he showers, he gets hurt and bleeds. He was a being made for slavery. And as with any person made a slave, their told to obey and the owners believe they have 0 emotions. The only difference from replicants to humans, is their strength, and their lack of a supposed way to breed.

Crazy to know that Xenomorphs exist in this universe. I can’t that that can even be said. There is a timeline in which he could have possibly met Ellen Ripley…
This was never confirmed in any canon material. It’s simply a cool theory that doesn’t even make much sense considering how vastly different the androids in Alien are to the Replicants in Blade Runner
My take for the whole Joi thing. Joi might be a corporate product. But the whole movie revolves around the fact that robots can have real feelings. Robots can become something more than just their programming. So for me, Joi was real. I interpret this scene as him realising who he lost.
There are three characters in all of cinema I have never found myself relating so much to personally. K(Joe) From 2049, Jake from Avatar and Rocky. Hopefully one day I can write a character that represents the way we all feel when it comes to loneliness, anxiety, dreams, passion. These characters mean so much to us because we can see ourselves as these characters. They are reflections of us in another world. We understand their motives and why they are who they are. Hollywood over the years has tried to give us characters for us to root for but mostly characters to just fill in elements of the story. There are to many times where they try and fail to give us a character we root for. If we can find a character to be a mirror reflection of ourselves and for us to literally see ourselves on screen. There is such a unique and beautiful art and deeper meaning to the story and to the character.
