House is the perfect broken character. He genuinely tries to be dislikable because it allows him to keep people at arms distance but if you pay attention you can see how much he cares not just in the vulnerable moments but even in the harsh ones when he’s begging someone to approve treatment bc “no one dies with dignity”. What hurts is that Cuddy knew exactly what she was getting with house and how broken he was. He tried SO hard to be better for her and in the end she still gives up on him and hurts him. The ending of the show is depressing but perfect, House is deserving of love but has been let down too many times to ever believe it so he rides off into the sunset with the only person he knows will never let him down, Wilson.
I do not agree. I think Cuddy's breakup is unrealistic. She's a doctor, she knows that addicts have a lot of setbacks, and she also knows that House worked a lot on himself and was much better than before, but he still needs a lot of work. It's not that she didn't see progress. It is not credible that she suddenly ran out of patience. If the actress had to leave the series, it would have been better if they had made her die in an accident or something. House would have been miserable again, and would have gone back to drugs, but at least Cuddy's character would have been more consistent.
@@gabrielabagala I think it’s perfectly realistic for Cuddy to THINK she knew exactly what she was getting into, and it end up taking a larger emotional and mental toll on her than she expected. Love makes people do stupid things, and Cuddy is no exception.
@@ryuukail Cuddy had known House for a long time. She knew all his weaknesses. Of course, when a relationship becomes dating, things change, but what led Cuddy to break up with House was something too small: in that relationship it was almost a trifle. I really do not find the meaning of the reason presented. I'm not saying it's easy to be in a relationship with someone like House... I don't know if I could. But the authors had to work a little harder to find something more weighty negative... maybe they thought they found it later, adding the car crashing into the house but, let's be honest, a person like House would never have done that, because it could physically harm Cuddy or hurt another person. He's not like that, he wasn't even violent when he was at the worst of his addiction. The authors did not know how to find an "honorable" way out for the character without killing her. Maybe they didn't want to kill off Cuddy in the hope that he would come back sometime next season.
@@gabrielabagala I think everyone seems to forget Cuddy is a mother first. If she were just dating house, sure, Cuddy could probably put up with the very likely setback that is House relapsing after rehab. I don't think Cuddy would be willing to take that risk for Rachel.
Your most trustworthy friends are those who don't keep secrets from you and speak to you with absolute honesty. I believe that is the relationship between House and Wilson.
"You know he wants you. You know he's good. You know he can make you good. I don't know what I'm saying. YOU know what I'm saying, and you know I'm right." Wilson's wisest words that can be applied to anything related to House.
@@Kelvin-vd4zv He chose Vicodin. She had to choose protecting her young daughter. House had to know that's how it would go down, and he did it anyway. He broke the contract, not her; she was just the one forced to be the adult about it, because he wouldn't.
@@michaelccozens He didn’t choose Vicodin over her. He’s an addict. A recovering one who’s not even getting treatment like an addict should. And 85% of recovering addicts relapse within a year of treatment. House didn’t even have treatment. Cuddy had to have known the statistic and yeah she doesn’t have to stay with him. But to say he chose Vicodin over her. As to say she’s not good enough is manipulative.
“If I had to choose between saving everyone.... and loving you.... and being happy. I’d choose you...” the most sincere thing..... I hate that she broke his heart anyways
KitchensAreHot yes she did but she knew it from the beginning. She had her reasons, and House was trying REALLY hard to be there for her. He admitted he was terrified. That he loves her more than the one thing he put above almost everyone else. He practically begged for her to change him and make him better.... and she just kinda threw them back to him. I am still mad at her
KitchensAreHot it isn’t her responsibility to do that, you’re right, but she knew what she was getting into, and so did House. House tried to back out after the first night, because he understood, and she said she’d work with him. Then at his most vulnerable human moment, she threw him away. It’s hard to see my dude
KitchensAreHot okay, I agree with that. No matter how calculated House made it. No matter how angry he was, that shit was over the line. That’s not something he’d ever do even while high. He did that out of emotional pain and he didn’t know what to do with it. Tbh his action is part of Cuddy’s fault, BUT House is actually a psycho for doing that.
@@DevilGeneImbued You are making house to be too much of a victim here, and considering only his emotional pain in the situation. Thing is, in a relationship both parties need to work to make it succeed, and House didnt work hard enough because he was still trying to be in his ''shell''. Cuddy is not responsible that House, an adult, cant take emotional pain and deal with it like an adult. Its not her fault at all that he ended up crashing a car in her house. Cuddy on the other hand, expected too much too fast, so at the end of the day, both parties where not up to the task and the relationship failed.
@@basementreviewer788 " cant take emotional pain and deal with it like an adult." He's depressed. You're basically telling someone who has been through several relationships that never worked, a drug addict who tries his best to stop when he has stuff that helps him, and someone who has to deal with people dying almost every day to suck it up. House was never in the right- well, almost never in the right. However, the emotional pain he was dealing with couldn't be fixed. Some people were just born to be miserable.
I've not gotten to the end of the series before, so I've always sorta wondered what it was that caused Cutty to break up with House. But if it was just this, what's shown in this clip, she's not the bad guy. He made her feel guilty for him being with her; made her feel that him being in this relationship came at the cost of lives. Knowing his track record for wanting to be alone and miserable, I wouldn't put it past him to have made her guilty on purpose, specifically so she would end the relationship so he wouldn't have to.
@@stevietheaussie3555 It was a combination of this scene and House's inability to be with her when she needed him most. Cuddy was diagnosed with a cyst on her kidney in the next episode and needed to have surgery, instead of House being by her side from the start he relapsed on Vicodin to even face the reality that she was sick, only showing up to sit by her bedside when stoned out of his gourd. So in the end, it was all because House screwed up big time.
One of the best scenes in the whole show. The genius doctor who's whole idealism is focused on his job and curing people, believing it's the only thing that will bring him closure, finally chooses to try and be happy and inlove with the person he always kinda cared about. You can even see the disbelief in Cuddy's face after he tells her everything, because deep down she knows it's not the right choice and it'll not end like this. It's perfect!
In reality, if this were real, its unfortunate that Cuddy is who he loves. He'd be better off with someone wackier than Cuddy, who is so straight. He is someone impossible to live with 24/7, except for some woman totally unfit for anyone but House. For the show Cuddy is a great match. But if they became mates they would both go mad. Somebidy please spin this differently.
He had a general dislike of people calling him by his name. That and i would stick with what i was comfortable. It dosnt matter what you call eachother.
My heart aches watching House like this and knowing how it will end. They push him to open up and feel something and when he does they break him so badly. How does one even recover from that and believe that unconditional, loving relationships do exist? So ruthless.
"How does one even recover from that and believe that unconditional, loving relationships do exist?" You don't. I experienced it 20 years ago. I still think of her every day.
because unconditional, loving relationships don't exist? Everyone has conditions - believing otherwise is childish and immature and proof that you're not ready to start any relationship because you're just going to be toxic and demanding in it
"We all make mistakes, and we all pay for it" He's been a jerk, an ass all his life, and it did nothing to him. He made himself vulnerable for once and paid for it. It would've been easier if it were a physical event, like Cuddy dying of illness in the surgery. She didn't, only to reinforce his past views about humanity and life.
Watch her face from 8:00 onward. She may not have made the decision consciously, but this is the real reason she broke it off. Not because he slipped and took Vicodin when he thought she might be dying, that was just the excuse that she had been waiting for from this moment on. Everyone knows that recovering addicts can slip in times of extreme stress. She probably would have forgiven him for it; but being told that having her in his life, making him happy, would mean that more patients would die, well, that was a burden and a responsibility she just wasn't willing to bear. That's my take on it, anyway.
“If I had to choose between saving everyone and loving you, I’d choose you...” "Yes House, but you took one Vicodin, this relationship is over" I hate how they handled this
U can give someone everything but they choose to dislike u and break ur heart over not being good enough for em..they dont even give a shit how u feel..he was right to drive thru her apartment
@@basementreviewer788 No they didn't state that it wasn't the Vicodin. They tried to, but they way they handled it was ugly. Lets put it in a different perspective. She was also supposed to love him and be there for him, and all it took was a single small setback for her to leave. That is real life?
@@NSB25445 but you also have to keep Rachel in the picture. They showed it in the show too. Rachel, her adopted daughter, was the biggest reason she broke up with him. Long before Huddy she tried to get pregnant and adopt multiple times and failed. It matters to her the most. It didn't end in the way we hoped for but it was realistic.
Cuddy 5 episodes later: I know you said you're willing to give up the one thing that kept you going all those years for me, but because u had a very small relapse while I was literally fucking dying, you're never gonna change to let's break up
Look at the clips and the way they change over seasons. From season one, all the way to seven and eight. The saturation and tones in every season goes down, but from season one to two drastically, and then from six to seven even more drastically. The overall tone of the story is pretty much tied in with the cinematography. It's subtle but becomes very apparent in places like RU-vid where you can watch all of these clips scattered about from every season. Don't even need a guide or look it up to know which episodes are from which seasons because (Aside from the characters) you can just look at the tone of the shot itself.
I always suspected that this was the moment Cuddy decided that she could never be with House. She knew saving his patients and solving his puzzles were his one thing in the world that kept him sane and out of pain. She doesn't wanna compromise that and so she does what she thinks is best for him and ends up leaving him.
"Greg House" (@HughLaurie) already said something about "solving" corona virus: "... it's not a matter of 'solving' Covid. This is an epidemic, not a diagnostic problem. We solve it together by staying apart." (March 25, 2020; 06:59AM)
After watching this show, over and over again, it makes me sad that they didn't end up together and you can see it happening on Cuddys face in this clip

Hugh Laurie is an accomplished musician in several instruments (especially piano) and loves music. He did a show wandering through the US checking out music venues. Pretty sure the actor knows Juan Gabriel also.
These 3 had such a good friendship, I like to think after House and Wilson rode into the sunset at the end of season 8, House came back and asked Cuddy to marry him. And Rachel got to brag at school that her daddy was a ghost.
Tldr: house hates everyone because he's afraid of people hating him first. Every time I watch house I'm reminded about how much of a jerk and pervert he is, but... I feel so sorry for him. I cannot stop feeling so bad for him. He's always on the attack because if he pushes them away first, he never gives anyone the chance to push him away. He's in so much pain it's much safer to not have relationships and not risk it. (Long comment sorry) Many people with depression or OCD feel like this. I'm here to tell you, PLEASE reach out. In the end you will be happy you did.

Aaaaaaand then she kicked his thawing heart out the door 'cause a recovering addict had Vicodin while standing vigil over her when she was in the hospital, 'cause he "wasn't really there."
I mean she stood with him throughout his whole Vicodin recovery. She even offered to modify he's working conditions so he could get a new medication when he tried to stop taking Vicodin. She did everything and more when it comes to doing something for someone else and trying to help him. She literally just needed him sober for one night and stay by her side and he couldn't even manage that. I like house too I think he's awesome but, with her daughter now in the picture she can't help take care of a recovering addict, herself, and a daughter. And seeing how she's obligated to take care of herself, and her daughter and she's obligated to do what's best for both of those people before anyone else she had to break up with him
I mean, cuddy knows who house is. She knows what she's in for and tbh house had been doing exemplary. He also was there for cuddy the only issue being he took vicodin. The dude essentially had a relapse with his sole purpose not being I gotta get high but I gotta be there for her. I think it's a bit much to leave him like that
@@mikahoolwerff3563 i think she never truly loved him. House is magnetic. House made her feel special. He changed for her. But in that moment she realised he is not "normal" bf, he is House, with all of his problems and saw him as who he is. Sadly, she never loved that person. Saddest for me that it's really bad timing for him - making relapse into a big drama is what would make rehab much harder for him (as we see in the last season). I liked when Cuddy treated him like younger brother, like she's in control in first seasons, but in close relationships she always were bad and kinda cruel to him.

I think a lot of people misread this interaction. House isn't being vulnerable and selfless. He's being selfish still. He is choosing happiness over saving lives, and that is why Cuddy leaves him in the end. Because her moral compass won't let that happen. She won't let herself be happy at the expense of others but House will.
Well, she actually left him because he took drugs in order not to feel pain (emotional pain) when he thought she was dying. Instead of being there for her, he relied on pills to get him through it. This was I think the first and only time House chose happiness over answers and logic. He loved her so much that he was willing to sacrifice what he loves, his ability to be a great doctor. He doesn't like losing patients, he never has, although he treats it like it's no big deal. It's true that he likes finding answers over keeping patients alive, but he does want to save people. The fact that he was willing to give that up, his completely rational mind and objective mind so that he could be happy, was a major emotional thing for him to deal with. When he goes to rehab, he doesn't want anti-depressants partly because he doesn't want to risk losing his rational mind. But love isn't rational and so House choosing Cuddy in this scene is like him giving her the ultimate compliment he can.
It’s funny to me how hard it seems to be for Wilson to lie to house. Not just cause he’s a good person and doesn’t want to but because he already knows when house knows he’s lying and it’s pointless.
