For some of us, getting on the mats, having our arms and legs pulled and twisted, and being smothered comes ... naturally.
That's not always the case for some people as they enter into a school.
For some others, it takes a little more time and effort to get comfortable with even working on the basics.
Here's how you can build up to that if you're just starting out in Jiu-Jitsu, and are struggling to build resilience.

I'm only a white belt, but it's a new school so sometimes I'm one of the "upper" belts. I'm relatively chill (sometimes bordering on passive), so my Professor will often pair me with the timid newcomers. My goal is always to make sure they feel welcome, have fun, learn something, and not feel totally hopeless or helpless.

Me too white belt but my coach pairs me with other white belts and blue belts and up. When I’m with the upper ranks I try to learn and when I’m with the white belts I’m stilling learning but if I can teach them a few things like even a simple takedown then I’m happy with them. Sometimes I’ll go Easy and let them set up takedowns and submissions as long as they are doing it correctly and safely
