For bug control, for wounds, for replacing your refrigerator making meats, for replacing all of the Sodium that we will be missing that already are in all our processed foods, dehydration control from us having to do actual hard work outside where we will sweat exponentially more than now, weed control, tons of uses we dont use it for now but that you will absolutely wish you had thought of stocking much much more than :"recommended"

I have found that tinned foods last much longer than the expiry date on the tin. When I was a student on a low income years ago, I used to dig out tins that were 5 years past their expiry date from the back of my cupboard to eat. The contents tasted fine, and I did not get ill the next day. Having said that, if the tin is dented or rusty - throw it out.
@jimfreyler2944

Exactly. Canned goods are the way to go if you can't afford freeze dried. BB dates are years past the printed dates on most (not all) products. And the variety is fairly good too.
@TWR1988
@TWR1988 Год назад
Exp or Best Before = I’ve noticed 99% of things actually don’t have expiration dates, they only show a best before (so it’s just not the best after the best before date). It’s likely going to be a bit more soggy or bland etc. AND ….. if you have to choose between a possible leeched carcinogen from a can, in a world that is definitely at a carcinogenic level of radioactivity; or dying of starvation in a work that is definitely radioactive;.. I’d chose the *possibly present* carcinogen that may never actually cause me any harm anyways; not eating is definitely going to be harmful a lot faster.
@jjjackson5183
@jjjackson5183 Год назад
Tins used to not have expiration dates stamped upon them. However, as times progressed, people did not learn the "rules" of canned food plus, it made the grocery stores more profits to have dated cans.
@TWR1988
@TWR1988 Год назад
@@jimfreyler2944 exactly; canned goods tick off a few things for me. 1. Water for cooking, is provided in the can; unlike with freeze dried, where you will need extra cooking water stored separately. While canned goods are ready to go, if you wish to add pasta or rice to your meal, you’ll need water;.. so use the water from the canned ingredients 😝 2. Anything that is available, is available in a canned form 3. Rodents are less likely to be a problem for canned goods - but they will chew through bags of dried goods.

If your grind your own wheat berries in a grain mill, a six-pack of 1/2 gallon jars, will make 2 loaves of bread (2c of berries per loaf of bread) per week for three months. You would need four 6-packs of 1/2 gallon jars to make bread twice a week to have enough berries for a year of bread. (one loaf say on Sunday; and another loaf on Wednesday) It is very easy to store up enough wheat berries to have enough bread for a year. ;)

I’m from rural culture. Very informative for those prepping. Farmers were some of the first preppers before it had a definitive name. I really push for having a root cellar/ storm shelter if you have property. It fills the storage gap and extends the life of fresh vegetables. It serves as shelter in times of weather and yes could serve as a bunker. I advise to get the freshest food you can find. Farmers markets are great. Less chemical exposure. More organic. Safe processing is vital. Dehydrating is my niche . Mylar, 5 gallon buckets, O2 absorbers, canning, dry canning, vacuum packing. I advice a herb garden, medicinal garden and herbal tea garden. Wild lettuce, pussyfoot willow, plantain, are foraging plants , and free. Learn to make tictures and salves. Bless you all on your journey to self sufficiency and survival for the future.

Around 15 years ago I started developing this almost obsessive desire to know about the Geo political happenings going on in the world. Back then, although I knew these things were going to happen, they were considered conspiracy theories. But now these things are happening at an alarming pace. It’s important for us to be preparing but the most important way to prepare is to make sure you are right with God. Luke 21 verse 36 says be always on the watch and pray that you may be able to escape all that’s about to happen and that you may be able to stand before the son of man. Also start doing your own homework. This is not a day that you can just blindly go through life. First Thessalonians five says but you brothers, are not in darkness so that that day should surprise you like a thief. So then let us not be like others who are asleep, but let us be alert! I have listened to so many plans on preparing for what’s coming but truly, real security can only be found in your relationship with Jesus Christ. Please hurry!

Actually through my research white flour stored in Mylar bags have a shelf life of between 10 - 15 years. Maybe if you just store them in the package they came it it would be 5 years, but, if it is stored properly. Than you for the information. I found this very helpful. I'll add that I started buying the bleach tablets and I love them. I'm saving money even now using them. They take way less room in my storage. The downside is you have to mix them with water.

Just crack the eggs put each yolk in each cup in a rubber cup cake pan and freeze it then take it out of freezer and put it in a freezer storage bag then put it back in the freezer. For better instructions you can find it on RU-vid how to freeze eggs. Also miracle whip and mayonnaise can be used for a back in cornbread mixes if you don't have eggs or enough of eggs. Not sure if you can use it as a backup alternative for biscuit mixes pancakes mixes. For years some folks have use mayonnaise and miracle whip. Hellman's, Mayo, Blue Plate . Fat free low in fats. Use real mayonnaise. For better instructions Google it and go RU-vid. I do a little stocking up on mayonnaise and miracle whip. 🤗

In the dark ages, when I was in school or just beyond, I read a newspaper (remember those?) report about a stash of canned food from the civil war era that had been found hidden in a cave or somewhere. Experts tested the food and said it was uncontaminated and technically safe to eat. ( I doubt it would have been very tasty!) I figure if canning techniques from the 1860's were good enough to keep food for over 100 years, our current processes should last even longer!
