yo bro I just wanna say I'm not even done watching the video but I'm working on my first 2 PS2 consoles rn for the first time. I got a Phat and slim. And I was looking for more of a newer tutorial and found this one. Extremely satisfied, and subscribed. Much love bro. Stay up.
If you have Fat, do HDD. I've been doing USB on Slim for about a year and want to buy a Fat. The defragging takes forever and needs at least 100 GB free to do it, load times take a long time, some games crash because level geometry doesn't load fast enough, and some games don't work at all.
Such a great video. Been messing with my PS2 since this last week. Modded mine through writing a HDD image of Free McBoot to a spare Maxtor hard drive and once it booted up, I was able to then use a flash drive and install it to a spare memory card. Recently Open PS2 Loader is able to use some huge hard drives passed 2TB and as ISO images without needing to "install" the games.
Was wondering why i spent hours wasting time and couldn't get the Mg2Box reader running I have the Fat 39004 and it just won't xD Thank you so much for this video
Great video! Do you have a good method for playing ps1 games through an internal HDD (or this device?) on a fat ps2? (and not through the slow USB 1.1 port). I have a hdd formatted for PS2 games but can't seem to figure out how to get ps1 games to boot from it with Free McBoot
just to confirm a couple of questions i have. 1 does this remove region lock from games?(let's say i wanted to play a Japanese PS2 game never released in the west) 2 does this allow th use for Well less official discs(let's say i burned the aftermentioned Japanese ISO with an english patched onto a disc?) 3 does the FreeMCBoot memory card have to be in the console the entire time or just for the duration of the boot(if it has to be in the console the entire time can it be in mem card slot 2?)
(1) I believe that you can bypass region restrictions with OPL, so yes (2) This doesn't change anything hardware wise. You would need a app called esr to allow the disc drive to read burned backups. Although this is limited to just games released on DVDs. (3) It only needs to be in for the initial boot/using apps, and should work in slot 2
Do you know if there is a file size limit on iso files? I wanna make a digital copy of champions of norrath disc and put it on my hard drive but ive ready everywhere that if using a usb formatted to fat32 theres a file size limit of 4gb and my game is 6gb, im going the internal hdd route with the network adapter and am trying to figure out if ill have the same issue and will need to use usbutil to seperate my file to make it compatible and playable from the hard drive or is the 4gb file size limit not relative here?
You will have that issue regardless of storage device as the max 4gb per file size is a limitation of the fat32 file structure. I'm not familiar with that game, if it uses two discs that make up the 6gb then you should be okay to just make a copy as each file should be under 4g. However if it's a single disc you may need to format the HDD as exfat and update opl to one that supports Exfat (can get it here) github.com/grimdoomer/Open-PS2-Loader/releases
@MCDNetwork it is one disc, and to my surprise is a larger file than the part 2 of the game (champions return to arms which is a 2gb game) and updating opl to read exfat hdd will fix that issue? BTW I seriously appreciate your response and assistance, I couldn't get this information ANYWHERE and have commented on different posts and you are the only one to respond so thankyou VERY much
@@MCDNetwork sorry to bug you with another question, when clicking on the link you provided, do I need to download the source code files as well or just the opl update file?
@@MCDNetwork I already have FMCB but the version is old 1.8 and is starting to make a fuss and I would like to redo it from scratch, is there any advice on which one to do? Thanks in advance.
