You've convinced me about ppf although I was already in the ceramic camp. I congratulate you on having one of the best channels ((top 5) in auto detailing.

Excellent video Colton!!! This is exactly the kind of content we need. Cancelled my PPF install and look forward to your paint touch up video. Best, Nick from Minnesota

I’d personally like to see a video on Car Wraps. Does the base paint affect anything? How do wraps work? Can there be metallic wraps? How much does it cost to put on, or replace if it gets damaged? Etc. Love the content!

I have had xpel for 4 yrs on one of my cars, the film looks as good as it did the day of install. I think the quality of the install is everything. My car is darker color, but still. Mine also had a ceramic coating infused - supposedly. I would MUCH rather have ppf vs chips and or chip repair. I think I'd do front ppf and ceramic coat and never use an automatic wash.

ITEKT for glass coating - nothing else like it. Coleton, you are seriously making me reconsider the whole PPF for my new car. Was going to do full frontal as I live in Montreal and the winters are very harsh with abrasive's being put down on our roads - think I will only do the front nose. Keep up the great work, let me know what you think about ITEKT.

Thanks for the great video, Coleton. Super educational. For those of us who don’t live in Colorado, what should we be looking for when looking for a detailing shop? Second question is what are your thoughts and recommendations on window tinting material options?

Great video! Just ordered a Model Y Performance and been considering PPF and ceramic, but obviously hesitant about the price and whether or not it’s worth it. I’m pretty OCD about my cars so I’d love to know what you’d recommend to prevent rock chips / minor scratches if not PPF?
@Jason-yg2cy
@Jason-yg2cy Год назад
The one area where I think it is a good investment to add PPF is the headlights. Even though there might be some slight yellowing over time, it is far less yellowing then when the clear coat on the headlight starts to fail generally to rock abrasions on the surface. And it is generally cheaper to apply PPF to headlights then having them properly refinished or replaced.
@OutofSpecDetailing
@OutofSpecDetailing Год назад
This is a great point! I find it weird how often I see “full” front PPF installs skip headlights! Crazy how expensive the headlights can be these days

I found your video interesting and informative and, as always, well-produced and engaging. I was a little surprised that you do not recommend a treatment for windows considering the number of YT videos that focus on that. I recently used CarPro's Flyby Forte kit on my windshield and rear window, but have not reached any conclusions about its effectiveness. I do have a question: what, if anything, do you recommend for protecting fabric seat coverings, other than perhaps Scotchguard? Actually, I do have a second question that has been lurking on my mind, but I will understand if you do not wish to answer it: what effect has your not-so-old YT channel had on your detailing business?
@OutofSpecDetailing
@OutofSpecDetailing Год назад
I’ve tested many windows coatings and have not felt they live up to my expectations. I find the time spent installing and issues I’ve had does not equal the level of protection. I haven’t played around at all with fabric seat protection. I typically do not work on vehicles with cloth seats. RU-vid has had a massive influx of business. This winter was equal to summer time business. Jam packed with a waiting list!

Hi, first of all great videos. I have a question. do you use MOHS on the „matte“ Tesla rims? Does it work or should you use a dedicated matte coating for that?

I asked this over on the OOS Review video of your dad picking up his Model 3 Performance (nice ride!) but it makes more sense here. I’m leasing a blue Model 3 RWD standard range (would love to buy but can’t quite swing that payment just yet.) 36 month lease. I want to protect the paint enough to not get charged a fortune for defects and so it doesn’t look like crap (obviously!) so I found a Gyeon affiliate about an hour away that charges $900 for a “36 month” ceramic coat. Sound reasonable? Overkill? Again, it’s a lease… I’m not keeping it (from what I understand Tesla just doesn’t let you buy out leases.) I live in Michigan (road salt) and my driveway is off a dirt road so, mud. Lots of mud. Are the Tesla mudflaps worth it? Seems like a no-brainer for $40.

Hey Colton. I’m getting my R1T this wk. I already have an unopened bottle of Carpro CQuartz UK and an opened bottle of SiC so I would like to use either or both of these on it. Can you guide me as to how to best remove the delivery wax and prep the surface? The car is LA Silver and Ocean Coast. Thanks is advance for the insight!

Love you work Colton. Wish you were closer to where I live. What should a person expect to pay for the suggested services you just mentioned? Using a qualified detailer, of course. I have a Mach-e and an EV6, but one will be traded for the Rivian R1T when my number is called, and I want to protect these investments as much as I can.

It drastically depends on the vehicle size, vehicle condition, your end expectation’s, complexity of the vehicle, the shop, and of course what type of ceramic coating that is used on the vehicle. I personally would stay away from companies who have pre quoted “packages” A 35-40 hour detail with the protection used here should be in the range of $2500-$3000

Window coating (exterior), RainX is a great product that last for months - easy in apply and water beads off the windshield at speeds faster than the wipers. PPF - Not worth the $$$ for a daily driver. Have done it before, just hate the yellowing and edges that lift up on them all getting dirt underneath. Keep up the good detailing videos Coleton!

Amazing video. Thank you for this!! I’ve debated PPF for years and haven’t done it because I’m a perfectionist and worry about the yellowing and the edges. I did a partial roof delete with vinyl on a couple of my teslas and it looks great but never again. Too many issues.

I think PPF is the devils work. Lol As a true hobbyist it’s the furthest thing away from the sport. I’m moving back to wax as the ceramics scene is getting old and boring very quick to me. Yea use cases for a daily but even then anyone maintains a car properly, ceramic does nothing a sealant / wax can’t do but with worse looks

Your views on PPF definitely seem to go against the grain. Everyone and their mom all recommend it, especially in the Tesla community.
