Matti love your work and thanks for creating such great content. I was thinking it would be awesome to see a video comparing different techniques / uses for lenses of varying focal lengths in a given scenario eg using a 35mm for a certain shot and how you might frame it, then an 85mm then maybe a 16mm etc I know it’s a subjective thing but may be cool to see how you approach it!

Other things that would add depth (S-curve/Z-lines, mist/smoke,haze).

Yes! Needed this one! I've often used the classic camera close to a railing and a subject down a ways, but never put further thought into different ways to use different types of things as leading lines. Will have to go out and give these a try

Definitely something I've been trying to work on. As well as being more aware of what is in the back ground. I'm quite often too focused on my subject only to see later that the background was a mess and really detracted from the image or video. Great stuff Matti! Cheers!

Leading lines + Foreground - These 2 are the most important and also the most parts of composition where some amateurs/starting photographers seems to forget a lot! Comparing my old photos to my recents one made me realize what is “these” parts of composition that I am lacking when I compared my photos to the Pros.

This is good stuff. Usually I'm thinking about the rule of 3rds but never seems to click with the leading lines in a shot. Taking a few minutes to get the right angle and perspective can make the difference between an amateur looking clip and a mind blowing cinema shot. Even a shadow line can be a leading line.

Just wanted to say this was a cool video. Very informative! Looking back on your other videos you can really see how much time and effort you put into that aspect of your composition. I wouldn't mind seeing more of this. A Matti masterclass on leading lines!! How would you use leading lines in a forest? Or around the house? Or somewhere else besides downtown Newmarket. It would be cool to see your take on this. When composing a scene I am always focused more on other things like hiding distractions and rule of thirds and leading room and lighting etc. but it's clear to me that I need to put more emphasis on this as well. Again, Great Video! Thanks Matti!

Super helpful video on leading lines, makes a lot more sense than what I knew before. I have always been concerned about making it look like someone had a 2x4 through their head, and you even covered that! And thanks for filming lots of examples. My primary interest is narrative, do you think every single shot in narrative needs this or is it more periodic?

I instinctively try to use the panoramic mode on the smartphone to try and capture as much of the awesome landscape views I see and also the same with panning in video. Maybe I'll try and frame something in the foreground on the edge of the frame that is leading into the landscape in the background and/or try zooming in rather than panning in video. Cheers!
