Whos loving the Motion Graphics Templates???? I've heard so many good comments about them and I'd love to see how your using them so post some clips on Twitter and tag me in them!
I'm a big fan. One thing that I would love would be the ability to adjust the size (of some of the shapes) either horizontally or vertically independent of each other.
I love how you take ur editor and people u hire to go eat, to go have fun, or do something! It's so sweet! Also I posted my first video and after 2 days deleted itself idek what happened but it had 44 views but now it has 3. I really don't know what happened. Can anyone help me?
Great tips, can I ask you this: could you show us behind the scenes how you move the camera for whip transitions, I’m having problems controlling the the camera, after every whip, I would like to see how you do it. Thanks for the info you post every week!
@vsnu If you shoot 60fps on your camera, you can slow it down to 20% and use optical flow. 9 times out of 10 you'll get very similar looks. At least I do.
I need to get in that 120 club! When slowing down in post, what's the best way to slow it down and use warp stabilizer. I often get warp stabilizer errors. (Shooting 60fps with canon 6d mark ii)
you cant go crazy with the warp stabilizer percentage or it is more prone ot having errors. also if you are not interpreting your clip as 24fps when it was shot at 60 then nesting the clip you could get errors as well from my experience
Thank you Matti!!! You are the BEST at this! Thank you for helping all of us to know more. I just got the Fuji XT-3 so super excited to try to do better. You Inspire! 🙌🏻
@@mattih the XT3 only does 120fps @ 1080p, while 4k is capped at 60fps. What would you suggest? 1) film everything @1080p or 2) film at 4k24 and somehow blend /scale 1080p120 or c) everything 4k and use 4k60 and fake the 120 slowmo?
If I am shooting birds in movement as I am using 300mm lens, do i have consider the lens into factor as handheld it cause alot of blur in focusing unless it is stationary bird then I can shoot at 1/120 sec. what is advise as I am confuse.?
Some basic but super important stuff. I find myself constantly forgetting to put warp stabilizer on my 120fps clips lol. Thank you for the info Matti!! :D

This is a great tutorial Matti! LOVE IT! Sometimes in my videos I went way too far with the warp stabilizer and I got some strange footage. Maybe you can make a tutorial on how to properly use the warp stabilizer and how changing every parameter will give you a different result :)
If you don't already have a drone, I'd definitely get the drone and achieve shots that aren't possible without. Upgrading the mic will make a small difference, but adding arial shots will make a huge difference to your videos.
The 1dxii has got to be hands down the nicest looking 120fps camera currently in a DSLR / mirrorless. GH5 looks good but something about the 1dxii just looks so good.
Hey Matti, can you do a comparison between the 120fps on the 1dx mark 2 @1080p and the 120fps on the Eos R upscaled from 720p to 1080p. Maybe a blind test so we have to guess which was shot on which camera!!
Miles Trevelyan-Johnson The 720p 120fps is pretty useless on the R. Looks like garbage. If you can’t tell them apart, you’re blind or need to upgrade your monitor from 1998.
Yes I have a 5dmk4......and it has the same limitations as the Eos R............however you can still manually focus the lens whilst shooting if you have an external monitor attached....or set the focus before hitting record. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pGKY3cxqnKs.html. whilst the video may not be up to the 1dk2 quality, its not exactly garbage onced its upscaled properly to 1080, I think its useable if the lighting conditions are good.
I'm excited to learn speed ramping. But I ended up with 6D mkii for my DSLR. So 120 fps means going over to iPhone at 1080p for me. But I should try 60 fps on the 6D and see how that feels. Mostly I just think of 60 fps as "video style".
So I have a question that perhaps anyone who knows can help me with ( I’m not banking on Matti actually replying). When you film in 120fp do you apply the slow motion after, in premiere pro? Or is there a way for the camera to make it slow motion within its settings. If you want to apply warp stabiliser and slow motion on the same clip you have to apply the slow motion and save it and import it again for the warp stabiliser to work on the same clip so it’s time consuming. That’s why I’m asking. Hope someone can help. Thanks :)
In regards to why our noses run after coming inside from a cold time outside. My guess is that the cold slows down your immune system and the bacteria but the bacteria regains its movement and abilities faster than your immune system.
If you have a DSLR that can shoot a maximum of 60 fps: Shoot using that In Premiere slow it as you wish, Right click the clip Under time interpolation choose Optical Flow Click enter to render that clip and enjoy your slow motion video Note: This does not work perfectly 100% of the time. You may get some artifacts.
Hi Matti, first a big thank's for your videoS. Now I have a quastion... If you would use 120fps and 250 shutterspeed, and in the clip (Davinci Resolve) 5.207 (render with 25fps) do you get same times same problems with fllickered artificial light??? If it is so... how you solved this problem? I use „Flicker free“ and Davinci Resolve. If I want creat a slomo with 120fps and artificial light I cant use this footage. Thank's for your answer... Roberto
After setting my FPS to 120 and doubling my shutter speed. If I leave my ISO in auto it gives me a grainy footage, however if I put it in manual mode say 400. My image gets extremely dark. Any help with this anyone?
Great video, thanks for the tips. I just have a problem with the warp stabilizer. When I shoot in 120 fps and use the clip in a 24 fps sequence, Premiere Pro just shows an error message. The only workaround I know is to stabilize all the 120 fps clips first, then export it and import it again into a 24 fps sequence... Do you know a better solution?
So if I shooting in 120fps but converted in slow motion already in camera 2x times what kinda shooter speed I have to use? I have to use 240 or 120 because it's slowed 2x times. That little bit confusing
I've noticed an over abundance of slow motion videos... After awhile it becomes annoying, much like how the never ending jump cuts and edits are thrown in where there's no rhyme or reason. Less IS MORE. Still, your tips are helpful when slow motion is called for.
I respectfully disagree with number 5. Two reasons why: #1 is that the reason I think that it appears to be more "dynamic" is because of your depth of field difference problems between those two shots. I don't know what you did, but the 85mm (Ithink its because of autofocus problems and not creating enough dof distance) looks like it was shot on f11 for a second. #2 Longer focal lengths hide the horrid resolution quality of 120fps in most cameras like you see at 6:23 (its looks out of focus). The exception for wides being when you're really close to the subject and create a nice dof compression like zoom lenses.
why you are so good Matti Hapoja:).. I am just starting with Adobe PP and have "0" idea about anything, can anyone guide me the best way or a course to get used to Adobe and also to understand filmmaking skills? thanks in advance. I am trying to learn and just made a video of my old content(not much or good either) and ended up giving 3 days to just create a 1 min video:(. sometimes while shifting the audio and video mismatches sometimes something else.
shooting in 24fps for best image quality or shooting in 60+fps to always be able to make slow motion... I know ill always have more usable footage with higher fps for my tube videos. I'm torn between the options lately.
I know this video is a few years old so might not get a response but here goes: I’m trying to film an upcoming vacation in Hawaii and wanna get a mix of slow mo b-roll and the rest shot on 24p for the cinematic look. I’m just confused how I can get all the shots to be consistent with the exposure because I’m hoping to shoot in Log and the ISO factor makes me wonder if I shouldn't shoot in Log for a mix of frame rates. Anyway I wanna do speed ramps so I guess it's better to shoot in high frame rate like 120 and then change the rate to speed it up in post...
I work in premier pro and I can’t warp stabilize and adjust speed of the same clip unless I nest it. It’s really frustrating so I don’t usually warp stabilize my slow mo unless I really need to
I get flickering lights whenever i shoot 100 fps / 200 SS at night and I solved that by lowering the shutter speed down to maybe almost the same as the fps im using.
When filming in 120fps and your transitions use 10frames either side of the cut in 30fps films. Do you just use 40frames instead? Just not near a computer to try is all
Your nose running in the cold is called rhinorrhea. Seriously. The nose's job is to warm and filter air coming into your nasal passages and producing more mucous automatically helps it in cold and drier environments...when you exhale, that's drier air on the way out too so it accelerates the production even more...
What up Matti? I gotta question for u.... if u had to start all over and only had enough $ to purchase 2 lenses, what 2 lenses would be necessary to have in your bag?
#matti i try to shoot our company year end party.. i used a 16-200tamaron lens., when i zoom in it crops the whole scenery on the stage.. that makes me feel sad..
Thanks a lot man ! Looked up your previous tut s and made a short edit about monaco what do you think guys Could you give me some feedbacks I know that I have some troubles about story telling also I really appreciated it
In you opinion #matti if i used 60fps and change into 24fps frame rate.. why the vidoe footage looked zoom.. do i need to fit to scale when i edit on premier??
Sooo cold usually constricts blood vessels but in your nose (mucous membrane) the air needs to be warmed and the cold stimulates mucus production to humidify the cold air
You are wrong. The longer the lens the more movement you get. You get a LOT more movement from a telephoto than whit a wide angle. By the way the word is telephoto, not zoom lens.
