On this episode of You Need This Tool I feature the Wiss Hand Seamer or hand brake. This may be a tool most are not familiar with but its a pretty cool one.
Welcome to The Fab Forums. My name is Kyle Voss and I am a automotive fabricator that produces Custom Automotive Fabrication content of all kinds. Including Carbon Fiber, TIG Welding, Metal Shaping, Hot Rods, Muscle Cars, Custom Choppers, and everything in between. I work hard to bring you new content on a weekly basis.
Here are some of the builds you can find on this channel.
I have built several Chevy trucks. The first was my 1964 C10 named Crown Spoyal and the most recent C10 truck project was the 1969 I recently sold to a friend named the Black Pearl.
I am also finishing up a custom twin turbo Ford Mustang build I call the Gray Goose. It’s a 400 cubic inch Windsor style engine with twin 70mm turbos. I am hoping to make around the 1000 horsepower mark to the tires on this particular build.
Last but not least is the one off custom hot rod build called the Bibbster. This is what I call a modern day hot rod. It’s made from an old Ford Mustang foxbody, but made to look like an old school open wheeled hot rod.
I also feature other fabricators and shops like Cutworm Specialties hand formed aluminum wide body kit for a BMW e46. Jeb Greenstone has also built a twin turbo, coyote powered model A style hot rod from scratch, and is currently building a Toyota TE72 wagon drift car powered by a 1UZ Lexus v8. Jeb’s custom fabrication skills are fun to watch and always make for good videos.
Check out my playlist to see some or all of these builds.

I bought a 6 inch harbor freight seamer years ago for making ducts and vents for my racecar. I have two for wider bends and it works pretty well.

I have been using those in hvac duct installations and fabrication for 30 years and they are my favorite sheet metal tool. I use the end or side as a hammer to knock the drives down the sides of the trunkline and bend over the ends before I tape the joint. They also make one that is long and straight with a slit in each side you put the sheet metal in and fold it over but it is harder to move as it bends the entire length of the tool at once.

Wouldn't leave the HVAC shop without those bad boys in my toolbag. Super handy, heavy-duty, and graduations on the jaws keep you straight on longer run bends!

Using mine to do a a mounting surface for custom mount for my rocker switch panel in a truck. Works well for small jobs. For large jobs a brake is definitely what you want.

Could do one on a vacuum brake bleeder kit. I got one on Amazon for under $30 and it's all contained in a case. So much easier than the old pump and hold method.

No thanks. I do siding work and have for over 30 years. I use this style of tool but the Vice Grip kind which locks down and doesn't slip like the Wiss or Malco brands do. I have no interest whatsoever in this type of tool.
