Doing an upper lower split four days a week per Andy Baker. At 70yrs am the oldest OG under the barbell. Thankyou Rip and team. I swim daily to limber up. 🏋🏻‍♂️🏊🧨🦊

I don't disagree with the advice and I get the theory. However, there are so many factors from week to week that need to be considered other that PR's and stress. What you do (other than train), what you eat, how much you sleep, your mental state, plus other shit all vary from week to week. We can aim for an extra 5lb's or even just to match the previous lifts but it's not always possible.

Right but what he’s saying under his metric, these are what he finds across the board. Both can be right. This is pointing out the obvious as variables. Have you tried the program? You obviously have so what are your results?

Another option is that he can go to linear periodization. All it is is just doing a reset every 3 months or so and getting a running start at beating your old PR.

After making significant gains, Ive found that if my set this week is super duper hard, i will repeat the same weight the next week, if i get 6 reps then i will bump up the weight the following week

Andy Baker has some writings about this kind of programming but I forget what he calls it. It's like simple programming or dual progression or something. But basically yeah you keep the weight the same until you hit X reps, then you jump the weight 10-20 pounds and do it again. It's not super exciting but it does work.
@Francesco-cj3oi

If that's happening then you still haven't made significant gains

Why does Rip recommend the 4-day split over HLM? I would think HLM would be more easy to transition into from the SS NLP.

50 years old.....195 lbs 6 ft 1. Ive spent the majority of my career doing labor intensive work, Ive worked indoors maybe 3 years of my life. Select cut logging, cucumbers, tobacco, apples...and maple syrup were the go to hobbies on the dairy farm i grew up on. What would you rec for me to start a training program if i dont have access to the farm anymore?

I find it really difficult to do 3 reps on the Press. I complete 15 reps always, somehow get it done, but its through singles and doubles mainly. Triples are out. My strength keeps going up because if I go down from my work weight I can do a triple at a higher weight than what I could before. But the work weight is always singles or doubles. I feel sure I am going to get penalized for this later but it's the only way I can do the Press right now. My press is not very high either. Only 135lbs. Sucks to be weak!

I've had the same problem and just broke through the stall today. Eat more, wear a belt, and check your form. I couldn't do more than 4 reps at a time for a month. Today was easy in all sets.
@joelcarper4082
@joelcarper4082 Месяц назад
135 isn't as bad as you think I remember being stuck there been stuck around 2 plates for a while now without gaining weight keep going I'm still improving you can too if you're stubborn and focused enough I'm going to bulk finally soon past 210/215 get gritty on your press with your other lifts focus on accumulating heavy volume over time as opposed to expecting your body to be capable of consistently achieving a new max that might work for a while but realistically you should consider using the other rep ranges to your advantage Rip is right though strength is really the only thing you should give a fraction of a fuck about if you want to look really jacked and that's your goal then get your numbers up at that bodyweight you can do it believe in yourself Goddammit

I’m a Heavy weight strongman champion and 3x regional qualifier. At the advanced stage linear progression isn’t possible anymore. More periodized programming is necessary, however that’s not to say linear progression can’t work. It in fact does and can. You just have to be smarter about it and know how.

What I don't understand with push/pull four days a week is how can you train with exhausted arms as arms are used in nearly every exercise
@mouricemagdy1220
@mouricemagdy1220 Месяц назад
If I understand ur question, push/pull/legs, the common bodybuilding split, is not whats referred to here. This the starting strength novice program(u can look it up online). Though it's intense, failure is achieved through increasing the weight, not the reps, so it tends to be less tough on you after the fact. Plus its pretty lower body heavy too
@trevorvarney4900

Yes but he says about a four day split and that is the reason for my question. @@mouricemagdy1220

Every time I fall out of training feels like an impossible feat to get back into the rhythm. But after a few weeks I again feel so much better. Weight on the bar increasing, physique improving, boner banging, everything is lovely over 40! Thank you anavar! 😉 PS.. headed to the Outerbanks for the 4th hope there’s waves!
